Patriots quarterback Tom Brady [stats] has been offered a three-year extension believed to be worth $58 million that works out to $19.3 million annually, according to sources close to the negotiation.
This would be in addition to the $6 million dollars he’s on the books for this year.
The Brady camp has yet to formally agree, but a deal could be in place within the next 24 hours, the Herald has learned.

I just ran through the numbers on the pass defenses the Patriots faced last year. And while passer rating isn't the end all be all, that's what I went with just to see what came out the other side.

They faced teams that would go on to post a 77.2 QB rating (the average rating last year for a QB was 81.2). If you take out Tom Brady's numbers, the rating against drops to 75.5.

Brady posted a 96.2 while facing defenses that otherwise held opponents to a 75.5.

Of course one could go through all of their opponents and see which QBs they faced (did the Saints play a bunch of scrubs? for example) to see if the numbers are skewered that way. I just found it interesting to see after seeing that Peter King article.

To put it more simply, according to Football Outsiders, Brady played the hardest schedule based on opponents pass defense of any QB since 1993.

My brother-in-law just said that Tom Brady was just in a two-car accident and had to be extricated from the wreck. Has whiplash. He works for the media, so I'm pretty confident this is true...

    Edit: seems to be so:

Wonder if he sits on Sunday?

I am told that Brady is on his way to Gillette Stadium right now. Did not go to hospital.

Tom Brady update: Brady walked away from accident. Described as "banged up". Declined medical attention. Not at Hospital.

I'm sure he didn't have to be extricated from his vehicle. I'm sure it was the guy/gal in the accident. People calling into EEI said that they saw Brady walking around the scene, so hopefully he's OK.

Still, something like whiplash can stick with you for days. Here's to hoping he can play on Sunday.

Yeah, the jaws of life had to be used on the other vehicle, apparently. Just glad Tom didn't mess up his Justin Bieber hairdo!

No Edelman today () or Maroney ().

The defense was really flying around the field (when it was still a game). Pat Chung especially.

16 tackles crazy. McCourtey was in the mix on special teams as advertised.

Yes. I was very pleasantly surprised how fast the defense looked.

The O-line was great as well. There were times when Brady had all day to make his reads.

Fred Taylor ran the ball hard. I hope he can stay healthy.

Welker appears to not have lost a step. At all. Crazy.

    Re: The 2010 Patriots Thread

Was glad to see them get off to a good start yesterday. Cunningham getting some reps was huge after he missed the preseason. Chung, McCourty, and Mayo all had great games. I also liked the Spikes/Guyton rotation next to Mayo and the fact that Spikes and Brace both held their own in their first significant action.

Was hoping that it would stem the tide of unbearable talk radio up here, but alas, the Moss and Mankins situations are going to overshadow that.

My favorite call was Friday afternoon, the caller droned on and on about how the Patriots wouldn't be a contender because of concerns with the defense....and then proceeded to question why the Pats didn't draft Dez Bryant or CJ Spiller.

So far I'm thrilled with the drafting under Casserio.

Also worth watching this year, the Raiders are 0-1. One step closer to a nice draft pick. It's tough to say what area they would focus on with a Top 5 or 10 pick but it's exciting nonetheless.

One benefit to drafting early in the preseason was getting Welker in the 5th and 6th rounds of my two big money PPR leagues because of concerns over the knee.

    He looked really sharp yesterday.

Maroney traded to Denver per Schefter. Not sure what's going the other way.
Burns: I wonder if this Homer Nixon is any relation?
Smithers: Unlikely, sir. They spell and pronounce their names differently.

    I think they said it's Maroney and a 6th round pick for a 4th.

That's a really good deal for the Pats considering they were basically done with Maroney.

Maroney turned out to be one of the biggest disappointments in a long time for the Patriots.

Josh McDaniels really makes some head scratching moves. Hope this doesn't mean Knoshown is in danger of losing some of his carries.
