1st round pick is between 21 and 23 I think.
Also they have three 2nd round picks (Titans and Jaguars). No 3rd or 5th round picks, though.

Great thread.
I think the Pats have to go heavy on the defensive side of the ball in April, especially at LB. I wonder if Mayo ever gets back 100%?

Since they lost today, they will be have zero restrictions on signing free agents in this uncapped offseason.
The remaining 8 teams will not be allowed to sign a FA until they lose one and even then may only sign one to a smaller contract. The final 4 teams will have even more restrictions places on them

Pats stunk it up today, the offense couldn't play without Welker, Moss was MIA, and Brady was completely unfocused (seems injured to me). And that defense was terrible. Time to regroup and come back strong 2010. RIP 2009

Pats got annihilated yesterday. They still have Belicheck and Brady but they have a number of glaring issues. Good thing this is going to be a deep draft.
They haven't won jack since spygate.

At least with the early exit the coaching staff will have more time to come up with a number of new and exciting draw plays for next season.

Brain drain on the FO has definitely taken its toll. I've never seen Brady play a worse game.
The Pats have the 22nd pick this year. They need a pass rusher. I wonder if Peppers will be on the block again.

His defenses were ok, I guess. Not 2003/2004 good but not 2002/2005 bad.The ugly end to New England's season has reportedly cost defensive coordinator Dean Pees his job.

Thought this was interesting...
http://www.boston.com/sports/footbal...this_be_a.htmlI googled some mock drafts and he is almost always listed as going after the NE's first pick. He weighed in at 370 the other day.In fact, it's Alabama nose tackle Terrence Cody's understanding that a certain coaching buddy of the Tide coach was inquiring about the big man's pro prospects. Yup, that friend of Saban's.
"I never talked to Coach (Bill) Belichick," Cody told me after practice. "But he talked to coach Saban about me and asked a few questions, saying, 'Can he do this?' and 'Can he do that?' and asking about me as a player and person."

It's funny - I think the Jets and the Pats are going to be targeting a lot of similar players this draft. Considering neither won the SB, it's got to be a pretty beneficial thing for the Pats to be picking in front of the Jets this year.

Wide receiver Randy Moss was diagnosed with a separated shoulder following the Patriots' season and that was the reason he did not play in the Pro Bowl, a league source said on Monday.Moss had surfaced on the injury report with a shoulder ailment three days after the Patriots' 20-17 overtime loss to the Broncos on Oct. 11. He remained on the injury report because of the shoulder through Nov. 6, although he played through the injury.

I read a Mock Draft suggesting that the Patriots would be the ones to select QB Tim Tebow because Bill and Coach Merry are good friends and "the pats have been looking to add the Wildcat into the offense for the last couple seasons."
I personally like the idea, just one more things team would have to prepare for when facing the Pats. Tebow would serve as the wildcat QB and mainly used in goaline situations. Maybe they could develop him into a descent legit back up QB along the way.

If they could add Tebow with a late pick then I wouldn't have a problem with it. IMO, their first and 3 second rounders should go to more pressing needs at OLB, DE, & WR.

Julius Peppers was not franchised by Carolina.
He might cost a ton of money, but damn, he's exactly what this defense needs.

Pats should sign Peppers for DE. Add a young OLB, young MLB, and a young WR with their first 3 picks in the draft and then spend their fourth pick on Tebow for the Wildcat. then later in the draft look to add a young RB and CB.
I like for them to do something like this in the draft.
22nd pick: OLB Sergio Kindle (pass rusher)
42nd pick: WR/KR Mardy Gilyard (good WR, can return kicks to replace welker)
48th pick: MLB Brandon Spikes (leader to pair with Mayo)
53rd pick: QB Tim Tebow (is the Wild-Patriot the anwser to NE red zone scoring problems ?)
Later picks in the draft:
WR Eric Decker (maybe he falls to the 4th round)
RB LaGarrette Blount (gamble ? in the 6th or 7th round)
just some random thoughts really.

The Pats tendered Mankins (1st and 3rd) and Gostkowski (2nd). Meaning if someone signs Gostkowski to an offer sheet and the Pats don't match, they get that team's second round pick in 2010. Very tempting.

It's an interesting situation because Belichick is such an bitter chess player, and knowing that his likely landing place would be the Jets makes me think that he'd mess with the situation if it was of no consequence to him.

Wilfork re-signs, nice to see. The Pats also re-signed Stephen Neal and Banta Cain.
http://sports.espn.go.com/boston/nfl...ory?id=4970238
The New England Patriots have paid big money to their big man in the middle by inking nose tackle Vince Wilfork to a five-year, $40 million extension Friday, according to a league source.
The deal includes an $18 million signing bonus and $25 million guaranteed, NFL Insider Adam Schefter reports.
The deal makes Wilfork the highest-paid nose tackle in the NFL, provides him the long-term security he desires, and ensures the Patriots -- hurt by the departures of several impact players in recent years -- retain a key part of their defense.
Good signings on Wilfork,Banta Cain and Neal. I feel like the Patriots feel asleep at the wheel on Anquan Boldin tho. I would have loved to give up on of our three 2nd round picks and our 4th round pick straight up for Boldin, he'd be the perfect fit to the Pats but too late for wishing for that.
Personally, I think the best move at this point would be to sign Kevin Walter and draft a young WR/KR in the draft.
EDIT: he re-signed with HOU. WAKE UP PATS!
Any chances the Pats get in on Brandon Marshall tho ?

Apparently they are close to re-signing Leigh Bodden. Maybe. He was a solid corner, they need him next year.
Love the Wilfork contract. They need to get him some help on that line.

Bodden re-signed but Jarvis Green signed with Denver. A great deal for him, too. A four year deal that PFT says can reach $20 M.

He plays the hell out of his role as a 3rd down/receiving back.

TRADE FOR MARSHALL...talk about a perfect fit...a WR corps of Moss/Marshall/Edelman to start the season. Moss/Marshall/Welker for most of the season. Then you can let Moss walk after next year instead of signing him to a long term deal in his down years.
