Congrats to Martin. This was one record I thought would be safe.........

Well I watch Dryden win 6 cups in 8 years and yes he played with probably the best team ever.So I guess to Martin is the greatest in my day......

If I had one game to win and my choice of any goalie in his prime, I would still have Patrick Roy in net for me.

    Yup.

Roy and Brodeur are pretty much 1-2 for me, and although I'd choose Roy for a single game (or playoff series), Brodeur has a bit more impressive body of work.

Hasek and Roy were the top 2 goalies of this era. Marty comes in a very distant 3rd to those two.

You have to give Marty his props, but he hasn't been that impressive when the Devs play the Rangers. At least that's the impression I have.
One goalie to win one game..for me it's Hasek.

Hasek in his prime was the best goalie ever. He carried a Buffalo team that wasn't any better than any of the Ranger teams of recent years to the sixth game of the cup finals.

And the Cup winning goal wasn't even a goal (but I don't care because I love Hull/hate Hasek).

Must agree, always been a big Dominator fan

On a different note, I wonder if hockey historians will start docking points or giving extra credit for those who thrived during or after the restrictions on pad size.

By far the greatest goalie to ever marry his ex-wife's (now former) sister-in-law.

Congrats to Marty but to me the best playoff goaltender of my era is still Billy Smith. 4 straight Cup Victories and he shut out the "Great One" in 1983. The Isles were never eleminated in a game in which Smith was the goaltender. Billy won only 300+ regular season games because Al Arbour believed in a strict two goaltender system. Had Billy been alowed to play full seasons like Marty he probably gets close to 500 victories.

Hasek and Roy....Brodeur's let in too many soft goals in big spots to be considered in the same league as those two.

    Jesus Montero since June 1 (286 at-bats):
    .325/.386/.605/.991
    July 1 (182 at-bats):
    .348/.417/.658/1.075

Re: Martin Brodeur (Greatest goalie of all times?)

I think Brodeur is one of the greatest goalies of all time but I wouldn't say he is the greatest. Out of all the greats, really only Roy, Brodeur, and Hasek are the ones I have been able to see. It's hard for me to compare the old greats like Sawchuk, Dryden, etc since I never saw them and it was a different era. Based on what I have seen I'd go with Roy in a must win.

Brodeur is very consistent and has come up huge in big spots time after time. However, his ego tends to get in the way and he plays way too much and by playoff time either lets in soft goals or just chokes as of late. Not trying to take anything away from him, I mean he did help the Devils to 3 Cups but as of late he has been garbage in the playoffs.

I believe you are right but I'm not 100% sure, it's been awhile.

Marty has always had a pretty good defense if not a defensive system in front of him, but you can't argue with the guys consistency. Definately one of the greatest goalies of all time.

Hasek has 2 cups, not one.

Those accomplishments make it seem even more lopsided than I originally thought. Hasek is on another level by himself.

For one game, I'd probably take Roy but you can't argue with Hasek's body of work. He doesn't have the longevity of Marty but at his peak, he was better and it really isn't close.

I might be biased being a Rangers fan....but in a 1-game must win situation....I'm taking Mike Richter over Brodeur. Richter was such a great big game goalie.

Hasek or Roy wouldn't lose a lead in the last 2 minutes of Game 7.

For one game, I'd probably take Hasek. But for a series, season, or career, it's Marty.
