Argggh....
Disappointing night. Lester and Papelbon grooved him a few, couldn't do anything but foul off or swing through. Aaargh.
Go to orioles, butt
Yeah, he just doesnt seem to be all that good. I just hope he can run into a few in October.

He left 11 runners on base today all by himself.

Goat for todays game
Hoping Rivera can pitch forever!
Fire Thomson now!!!

He hit 9th today against a lefty. From now on he should be the defensive replacement/PR in a game started by a lefty now that Kearns is here and Thames healthy
Very nice guy but wish he was better

I knew he would stink against lefties...I just didn't know it would be this vile
You suck Granderson.
He looked so lost it's not even funny
It wouldn't matter as much if he was crushing RHP, but his AVG/OBP against righties is only .259/.339. The only thing he's done well so far is hit for power against RHP (.492 SLG), but it's hard to get too excited about that when he's struggled so much to get on base.Originally Posted by Vazquez
his first two ABs vs lester weren't that bad. the 7th inning K was ugly but the worst was the leadoff K vs papelbon. he swung at two clear balls, and has hit papelbon well in his career. that AB was terrible. 99% he sits tomorrow nite vs cj wilson.Originally Posted by Mr.Muhozi
I've had more patience with him than most because he plays a decent CF, will get a big hit here and there, and seems like a great person but he has been a huge disappointment. Just when I thought he might be turning it around, he goes right back into a bad slump.
"We understand that John Henry must be embarrassed, frustrated and disappointed by his failure in this transaction. Unlike the Yankees, he chose not to go the extra distance for his fans in Boston."
I'm still a believer, but I've about given up hope of him turning it around this season.
42 is the answer
AJ Burnett=Jaret Wright 2.0
Adam Dunn has less value than Drew Henson - Nome
CF's better than Granderson: Jacoby Ellsbury (.301, 70 steals), Scott Posednik (.304) - Curmudgeon
I didn't think he looked lost... he got pitches to hit, timing looked ok, just swung through them or fouled them off. I don't think he went chasing badly or took a bunch of called strikes either. That's the frustrating thing actually. There were a few Lester/Papelbon pitches that he should have crushed, and it looked like he was putting a good swing on it but... Pop! In the catcher's mitt or fouled back.Originally Posted by Mr.Muhozi

berkman is worse vs LHP, hadn't faced lester, and is much slower so much greater DP risk. after granderson K we still had jeter and swisher up, no ??Originally Posted by SLURPEE

I liked the acquisition despite the fact I thought they gave up a little too much in IPK and Dunn (giving up A-Jax was to be expected). However, I must say that Granderson has been such a massive disappointment that he's rapidly playing himself out of a guaranteed spot in next year's starting lineup. I know he has a contract that's nearly impossible to move after this latest season of regression, but Cashman isn't just going to run him out there in 2011 with no competition. I don't think it will be Gardner because Crawford was signed, but I can see another move being made.

Quite possibly the worst trade in Cashman's history with the Yankees. Up there with Mike Lowell for three pitchers whose names I can't recall (Yarnall was one?) and whose ML tenure lasted a lunchtime.
One might find flaws in Jackson's game- there are- but not even Halladay, Santana, and Lee (thrice) were traded for prospects who had an immediate impact on the ML level right away. We gave Jackson up for a player whom he is easily outperforming, for pennies on the dollar, and Jackson could have later been flipped for a real difference-maker- not a glorified platoon player with declining numbers.
Grandy seems like a nice guy and an upstanding citizen, easy to root for. But, as a ML player for the Yankees, it is disingenuous to say he has been anything but a bust.

should we have fielded a starting OF of brett, melky and swish ?? it made sense to take a shot on a potential impact player, as granderson is. it hasn't panned out, but that doesn't mean it was a bad trade, considering the bit pitchers that were thrown in and the fact that we don't really need another light hitting OFer, which is ajax. if we had crawford, ajax would be the supreme 4th OFer. but kind of like IPK, we didn't really have a place for him here.Originally Posted by bomber999
it's kind of like a nick johnson argument, tho people tend to bitch less now as he's been gone for so long. but same deal, the fact that it hasn't worked out so far doesn't mean it was a dumb deal. the hard part is, granderson has had a handful of games that ajax can only dream about -- the problem has been woeful inconsistency. i haven't given up hope on the guy, tho i concede he's bombed for the most part.

PS ajax was 0-5 today w 3 Ks. granderson has 10X the HRs in 3 / 4 the PAs. granderson has for the most part sucked, but let's try and keep things in perspective.Originally Posted by bomber999

For all the talk on this site about not jumping to conclusions based on SSS, are you seriously using a SS of 1 game to discredit what Jackson has done this year, in his rookie season?

If Damon had just been willing to negotiate in good faith, and come down from his and Borass's ridiculous demands for 3/36, we could have re-acquired him for DH/part-time LF, put Gardner in CF, and given AJ a shot in LF. Damon's idiocy has cost the Yankees in more ways than just his not being here for this season.Originally Posted by JSG

2/ agreed, a game or half a season for that matter may not be enough in terms of SSS. it kind of cuts both ways.
3/ bottom line: if curtis can get it together, he can still provide some real value for us. if he keeps sucking, it's on to Plan B and an upgrade for next yr.
4/ camp boras were idiots, but so were we at the very end when we offered 1/3 + 3. just not insisting on deferral + maybe an extra mil would have likely gotten it done for damon. now THAT was really dumb for us, would have saved many headaches and some games as well, no doubt.

You do realize Price was on the hill for TB. How any o for's has Granderson been a part of this year? That's a low blow. At the price tag of 400k, I don't care if he spits butter when he swings. I expect a little more from a saavy veteran all-star like Granderson. After all, this was a lopsided trade. Should there even be a comparison? Granderson should be mopping the floor with AJax. It certainly would be nice to have a platoon partner with Gardner when he shuts down on offense. Of course, we do have Kearns and he's sort of decent in a not so impressive way.Originally Posted by JSG
But, there's still hope if either Cleveland or KC get extremely hot, they still could win the AL Central. Then Granderson becomes relevant again.

I agree that both sides (Damon/Boras and the Yankees) were to blame for Damon leaving. He is greatly missed in the Yankee lineup, and now he gets to toil for a team struggling to stay at .500.Originally Posted by JSG

And, just as disturbing, is that Granderson cannot gain traction. A game of good at-bats, such as Saturday’s, has nothing to do with Sunday or yesterday. He has failed to offer any sustained excellence.

hence i don't think it was lopsided at all. it certainly looks worse right now as ajax is having a solid season and granderson has struggled. but the season's not over, and it's not as if we gave away carl crawford for granderson.
Its really sad, because I find myself wanting to root for him. He seems a nice guy, has good speed and D in CF. But let's be honest here, he has just not delivered with the bat this season, which is why this is so frustrating. There does not seem to be an effect from working with Long. The real question is, does he get a second year to prove himself. I still like the trade and I still believe that had we not traded for Granderson A-Jax would still be in the minors and would not have put up such a season for the Yankees.

good perspective, this pretty much covers it and that's the $64K question. you have to figure if he keeps up like this, or unless he really turns it around, they are in on crawford next yr. but as they say, there's still lots of baseball to be played .........Originally Posted by mal1219

It's interesting the continued support and lack of boos for Granderson (which I agree with, since I don't like the idea of booing players), whereas poor Lance Berkman was booed off the field almost immediately!
Didn't agree with the boos for Berkman either. I liked how he said that he was booing himself and then going 3-4 with 2 doubles. Too bad about last night though... But I agree, for such a tough crowd he's been flying under the Boo-radar. Wonder if that will change
