Yeah, it's way to early to start sitting him down against lefties. He has had 2..Ok, I guess, years against lefties so I would like to see if he can come close to those numbers at least.

Granderson gets a big hit with the bases loaded against a lefty reliever. Eat that, hos.

that LHP was kind of slinging it sidearm, so grandy got a good look, a far cry from the hard inside FBs mixed w killer breaking stuff that gives him trouble ......... but still, i'll take it. give him the ABs and let's see what happens. nice all around game from grandy today.Originally Posted by delv

Along with his offense, his defense and baserunning have been really good.

look back in this thread and reread what I said about grandy. see if you guys think he has shown all I said yet or not... you have seen what he gives in all aspects of the game. It didnt take long either.. enjoy him. this is what he is.
Mike we appreciate your Detroit knowledge, but you're posting as if the majority of this board didn't expect this type of performance. Look back and reread the comments some of us made about acquiring Curtis.Originally Posted by mike0618

sorry guys. I moved to savannah and am having tigers withdrawl since I havnt been able to watch any of their games this season so far. but I keep catching yankees games so I only have grandy to watch.. thats why I have been on here so much too. The blackout rules for baseball suck..
he made some nice plays in the field today, and he didn't even get credit for the best catch of the day

I must admit i wasn't happy when we traded Melky(Iloved his arm)But It's been a long time since weve had a real athletic CF,by that i mean one who goes back on a ball the way curtis does(w/respect Bernie wasn't what I consider an athletic CF)I even like Curtis' arm(see double play today)Oh by the way anyone think that slide into 1st(on the doubleplay)was an attempt to injure Tex?
Anyway Curtis is growing on me(here's hoping he starts to hit lefty's also

He's better than Alfonso Soriano, and the Yankees traded him for A-Rod.
Holy Moly!
It was obviously a dirty play which is the way the Rays play.Originally Posted by Timbo

Overall, it was a very nice week for Granderson. I'll enjoy watching him play all season long.

I believe at the start of the 2004 season The Yankees traded Soriano and a player latter to be named to Texas for A-Rod, along with cash considerations.Originally Posted by delv
Alfonso (and his potential upside) was one of the few players at the time that could be mentioned in the same breath as A-Rod considering a trade. A heck of a compliment even if it was a stretch.
Soriano was playing second but was always considered a possible outfielder.
Texas, Wash. and the Cubs indeed, have palyed him in LF.
I've always liked his offensive skills as a Yankee he had 98 HR and 121 SB in 501 games from 1999-2003.
I just find it ironic that Granderson is capable enough to put up those kind of numbers and is a better defender to boot than Soriano, and the Yankees traded Melky for him.
While Texas had to trade A-Rod to get Soriano.
Just a random thought, I really don't expect this to make sense to anyone else.
texas traded a-rod as an even larger salary dump than detroit dumping curtis.

Texas didn't trade A-Rod to get Soriano. That would be preposterous. They wanted to get out from under A-Rod's contract.Originally Posted by mr.roy

Either way, I don't really see the comparison. Sori was a secondbaseman and Curtis is a CF. Might as well compare Andy Phillips and Brett Gardner.

I don't think you can really compare those trades, though. Texas' primary motivation was to get rid of A-Rod's contract, and only the Yankees were willing/able to take it on.Originally Posted by mr.roy

Rigth It doesn't make sense, but Texas had to Trade A-Rod.
In the press guide it says he was traded for Soriano and a player to be named latter. Plus the Yankees got cash considerations.
Soriano was the best they could do and they got him.
Kind of like someone was holding a gun to Texas management collective heads saying your going to have to make a deal, like it or not.

Yeah, it was a seven player deal between three teams or something like that. At any rate I got it mixed up.Originally Posted by delv
Most teams felt he could be converted to the outfield and he has play LF ever since leaving the Yankees.
You can compare Andy and Brett.
I'll say that Soriano will never see CF and compare him with Curt.
Grandy is a much better OF than Soriano.
One could consider Granderson is able to play all 3 OF positions.
Soriano barely gets by in LF, would be a disaster in CF and probably no better in RF as in LF.
It was rumored that Granderson could start the season in LF. Leaving Brett in CF.
Granderson stated that it would be no problem for him, if that's what Girardi wanted.
That's Soriano's current position.
Soriano already played CF for a little bit in 2007, and he actually wasn't awful.
Also over a large sample of like 5 years in LF, he has actually been an above average LF.
roy:
You have a few mistakes in what you're saying above about the trade (Melky wasn't part of the 3-team), but whatever. Instead I'll say this:
Wouldn't a comparison of Curtis with Swisher be even better?
They both prior played CF before they were traded, but were considered for corner positions for our team.
They both came in a trade for a not-good-player-with-potential (Betemit and AJax).
They both came off of really bad years, but were both still young.
They both have power, K a lot, and walk a lot.
They both were signed to extensions by their former clubs to comparable salaries...
Swisher: 2009: $5.3 million, 2010: $6.75 million, 2011: $9 million, 2012: $10.25 million club option, $1 million buyout
Curtis: $5.5 million in 2010, $8.25 million in 2011 and $10 million in 2012. The Tigers have a $13 million option for 2013 with a $2 million buyout.
The only real similiarities between Sori and Curtis are that they're dark skinned and lanky w/ power.
"First batter up well here's the pitch: it's a curve. Second batter up because the first got served"

I didn't realize he had a cup of coffee in CF.
Ya know, I could believe that he is above average, but some of the errors he makes (just one the other day) are from a lack of consentration.
That coupled with runners on base makes him look worse than he probably is out there.
Still he's not the defender Granderson is.
Looking up his stats, I didn't realize he played 2B for Teaxs. Talk about finding out I don't know what I'm taking about half the time is par for the course.
I better shape up.
As a LF he has 34 E in 509 games for a .968 FP. Last year he had 11. He's getting worse. He not going to win a GG anytime soon. Hopefully he can recover from his knee injury 100%.
Range factor 2.07....... ZR 2.791.
Anyway glad the Yankees have Gardy and Grandy palying defense vs. Soriano.
Yeah, Texas sent along $67MM (in theory, anyway) with A-Rod for Soriano. That should make it pretty obvious that while they wanted to get a nice player back, they were simply looking to get out of his deal.Originally Posted by mr.roy

I'm gonna have to get to the bottom of the Granderson trade.
Melky went to the Braves getting the Yanks Javy. I don't know how I jumbled everything togethor.
Swisher gets the call full-time, because of injury to Nady.
