I'm convinced that some people just dont understand baseball the way they make judgments on a few weeks or a month. I guess some people expect Cano to hit .400, have an OPS of 1.175 and hit 85 hr's this year?Originally Posted by NYYRules#1

This is what good teams do. A few guys will carry the lineup for awhile (Cano, Jeter, Posada, Swisher etc.) when they cool off, others will step up (ARod, Tex, C-Grand etc.). The dynasty Yankees were so good at that. Last years team was as well. This year's team will do the same.

Ahhh, I remember those times well. They wouldn't listen to anyone who said they're in early season funks, they're normally slow starters, etc. Nope, they were terrible signings and couldn't perform in NY, case closed after less than a month.Originally Posted by dabomb2045

Very well. Telling them they'd eat their words back then made it all the more satisfying to watch CC dominate the rest of the year and especially in the playoffs. Kinda like seeing the morons who booed ARod regardless of the situation have to flipflop after his monster postseason.Originally Posted by dabomb2045

We really should start benching him vs. LH starters.

You can't call this trade anything other than a roll of the dice, a calculated risk. If we can solve the holes in CGs swing, this could go down as one of the all time steals. IF AJax blossoms into a star CF and Kennedy become the next Mike Mussina, we could be crying in our beer for years to come. Its more likely things will fall somewhere in between those unlikely extremes. It will be at least two years before we can fully evaluate the merits of this trade. Either way, CG is our guy now and we can only hope our hitting coach can work a little magic and teach CG how to hit lefties.Originally Posted by Melan-cynic
I dont see how its a roll of the dice. The odds that AJax even duplicate what Grandy did last year (which can be considered a down year--at least average wise)--30+ HR's 20+ SB's with good defense...is very slim.Originally Posted by Alan Slocum
Everyone loves Jackson right now cuz he's off to a hot start...but lets remember this is a kid who's struggled power wise in the minors and had a god awful BB/K ratio. I see him being maybe a .270-.280 type hitter, 10-15 HR's, .750-.800 OPS type player.
Granderson is the much better player and will continue to be. Kennedy? Even if he has some success in Arizona...it can be attributed to pitching in the NL. IMO he never had the stuff to be anything more then a #5 (at best) pitching in the AL East.

What in the world do you think Mike Mussina and Ian Kennedy have in common? Does Kennedy like crossword puzzles. The absolute best Kennedy can hope for is a Brad Radke like career.Originally Posted by Alan Slocum

Granderson has a career wRC+ of 118 (that's against BOTH lefties and righties) and he should be good for about 30 HR this year. If Granderson improves on his his LH splits then we have a perenial allstar. We are built to win NOW and both AJax and IPK would have started the year in AAA. Regardless of how well AJax and IPK do down the road, the trade absolutely gives us a better chance of winning now and we can always replace what they would have given us down the road in FA if need be.Originally Posted by Alan Slocum

I don't disagree with what any of the responding posters are saying. But mostlly it is based upon rosey projections for Granderson (which I might even agree with and certainly hope for) and bleak outlooks for our prospects. It will take at least two, perhaps three years to totally assess how good (or bad) a deal this was.Originally Posted by OldYankeeFan
Yes we are built for the NOW, and can always spend more money to make up for a depleted farm system. That sounds like a really good strategy based upon our recent FA success. But remember, those are longer than safe contract lengths and lots of things can go wrong that will make those currently great deals look bad in the long term.
I am hoping for the very best, but remembering the pretty good fiirst year turned in by Mr Giambi compared with the back half of his deal.
Granderson is 29, signed for 3 more years with an option for a 4th. The Yanks aren't buying his declining years here.Originally Posted by Alan Slocum

Amazing how a player goes into a slump and they automatically SUCK to the fan base.
You're referring to the same fanbase that hated on an all-time great during his prime.

Even if Jackson becomes a superstar, Kennedy dominates in the NL and coke becomes more than situational lefty I still liked the deal because none of that was or is certian and the Yanks with a $200M payroll could not go into the season with massive question marks in both CF and LF.Originally Posted by NYYRules#1

I'm not even that high on Granderson (I have little hope that he'll actually hit lefties) but I'd make this trade 10 out of 10.
by the end of the year you will be back to loving this trade if not sooner. saw no posts on this thread and wanted to see what was going on since being transferred from michigan to savannah all i get baseball wise is sand knats... didnt know what grandy was doing.. i know look it up on the internet..its not the same..
Austin Jackson is 4 for 4 today

I like Curtis. I like our OF minus Winn right now. I just hope Joe is able to bite the bullet and realize that it's Curtis' ABs that should be given to Thames and not Gardner's right now. Curtis will get hot and he'll get a key hit against LHP that will get him going.
