if he keeps that up or anything even close, and with his normal numbers against righties, playing CF, he should win MVP.Originally Posted by grizy

Probably purposely stopped at 2nd so he could steal 3rd.Originally Posted by Snatch Catch

As long as he doesn't revert to useless against LHP, I'll be thrilled.
Haha, he did mention that 3rd was easier to steal than 2nd.Originally Posted by wileedog

the answer to your question is yesOriginally Posted by ojo

he might actually be on pace to do it again this year if he keeps hitting like this. his projected stats for the year on espn have him falling 4 doubles shy of doing it again, hahaha.

couple of curtis articles.
so far he's looking pretty good vs LHP, including some pretty good ABs tonite (smash to second, 12 pitch K). what a GREAT trade !! cheersOriginally Posted by Yankee Tripper
I am very, very glad he is a Yankee.

i'll be very pleased to see he and brett close in on 35 steals. that would be sweet. batting where he is now, probably gives him more chance of stealing.

And just to think that a poster here was pushing to get him before last year when he could have been gotten for relatively little in return...but I can't quite remember who that was.Originally Posted by themgmt

Was hoping for a Grand Slammerson last night. I eagerly await the next time I can use that again.

he was untradeable before last year. the tigers were still trying to win with older players with higher salary number. The run for young arms started this offseason.Originally Posted by OldYankeeFan

i said it right at the beginning of the playoffs and was laughed at and scolded for it.
Granderon was on pace for 600+ HR after his first AB, but no SB or triples. He's aging.

IPK looked great in his first start, got punished in his second outing but looks really good again today so far.
This might be a three way deal where everyone makes out ok.
this makes sense, and who knows how those other guys will perform down the line, hard to judge right now. but i still see us as doing the best, not only as it looks like CG will exceed expectations all around, but also how the deal let cashman set up the rest of his offseason.......... making melky and matsui expendable, taking the pressure off re damon and paving the way for nick, which in turn (with $$ saved) paved the way for javy. big kudos to cashman on this one.Originally Posted by False1

granderson has exceeded expectations and is a great guy. was sad to see ajax go, i hope he does well for you. coke ......... well, good luck. damon's very solid also, was surprised he didn't wind up back here at the end, and also that the tigers wound up paying him $8MM when the next best offer was reportedly around $5MM (hey, come clean, what's the local dirt ?? ....... is boras really paying half his salary ??) ........... over and out / cheersOriginally Posted by mike0618

Yup. His k/PA of over 30% is uninspiring, as is the .29 BB/K ratio and the .452 BABIP. He will struggle in the near future.Originally Posted by SLURPEE

I think he'll become a pretty good defensive CF. End up average 20-28 doubles a year.
.270 ish, 5-10 HRs, .330-350 obp. Along with a ton of Ks. Definitely not a All*Star caliber even in a league where big time CF are missing. Decent player though.
Are you involved in statistics in some way professionally? I've never heard of most of the stats you refer to.Originally Posted by yankee82093

No, not professionally. Many of the stats I refer you would recognize if you were just familiar with the abbreviationsOriginally Posted by MLB007
for example:
K/PA: percentage of plate appearances that end in strikeouts. Obviously a high percentage, like Austin Jackson's 31%, is quite bad. Average is about 20.5%.
BB/K: Walks divided by strikeouts. Obviously, you want your position players to walk a lot and strike out a little. .50 is average, making Austin Jackon's .29 quite bad. Basically, the average player strikeouts twice as often as they walk and Austin Jackson strikeouts out three times as often as he walks.
BABIP: Batting Average on Balls In Play. This is a more complex stat than BB/K and K/PA, in terms of its usage and meaning. If you want a real explanation just ask.
Another stat I use a lot
wOBA: weighted on base average. Hopefully you're familiar with OPS, which is On base [percentage] plus slugging [percentage]. One issue with OPS is that it weights slugging and on base skill equally, when on base skill has been shown to be more important. Basically, wOBA is OPS except it corrects for this issue and is placed on the scale of OBP. Extensions of this stat include wRC+, which just puts wOBA performance within the context of the league average player (100 is average, 110 is ten percent above average, etc. Also includes league adjustments)
considering he's got 2 homeruns already, I'm going to put that 5-10HR prediction in the "conservative" category.Originally Posted by SLURPEE

the balance of this team is fun to watch- as opposed to the 05' or 06' Yanks that could only beat you with the long ball, the versatility of Granderson and Gardner at the bottom will truly maximize this lineup's potential. And right now, Granderson is definitely fun to watch.
Can you imagine how deadly this lineup is going to be when Tex awakens from his long winter's nap?
