Guys, what's the rule regarding SP missed starts? Is there any penalty if one of the SP misses his start for the week?

You mean if a guy is scheduled to start and then doesn't? There's no penalty for that.

You don't get penalized. You can't control how a manager manages his staff that would be an absurd penalty.

OK thanks, just checking. I decided to leave Javi in there, despite Girardi's recent comments. The Mets match-up is way to favourable to not take the chance.

I propose we reduce the time limit before a trade passes to 2 days rather than 3........

Not only is it currently 3 full days but it is also the half day that you accepted the trade as well since trades don't go through until 2:00 AM daily when overnight adjustments are done.

I disagree. Shortening the time is only making it more likely that bad trades will go through. Three days isn't very long.

It is a half a week by the time the extra half day kicks in that you accepted it on - sometimes almost 4 whole days.

Sorry man, but the people that don't check in every two days will be the same ones that don't check in every three. I can name you 3 people right now that don't answer any trade requests at all even though they have an On The Block page posted with players available. This league is turning into crap.

Not allowed - even second rounders are only allowed to be kept if you make the playoffs and get that one round bonus.

Not sure about that one - I had Manny out when he was suspended for steroids and I was allowed to use a DL spot for him. I guess it depends on what the suspension was for and for how long it lasts.

Well, it's freaking Zambrano. The Cubs placed him on the restricted list and replaced him in the roster.

I think you have to PM the commish or an ass-com to see if that would fall in the same category.

This is a tough one. On the one hand it's a sucky thing for you to get 'stuck' with an inactive player, but on the other hand I'm not sure that any special exception should be made for a guy who essentially got himself thrown off the team. Maybe a DL spot, I dunno.

If I remember what we did in the past is that in cases like Manny, Bradley and Grienke, the commish DL'ed the player as long as he was property of that team (ie. if the Cubs waive Zambrano or trade him, he comes off the DL).

That would be great. Sent a PM to Pete, hopefully he can confirm by Sunday, so I'll replace the angry fellow for next week.

I will DL him, but like Flanders said...if the Cubs waive him you must activate him.

I'm fairly certain if he gets dropped into the minors and it shows "M" on CBS, and still has less than 50 IP you can do it yourself.

This is correct. Any pitcher with less than 50 career IP who is in the real minors can be sent to your mL bench, and any owner can do themself. Same with any batter who hasn't reached 150 AB (or is it 130?)

3 keeps is long enough...that's 4 years in the majors. That's long enough.

I'm with Eric. I like the 3 keeps. I would rather we have a 1 year penalty instead of 2, but I do like the current keeper system overall.

    Re: 2010 General Rules Discussion

I quite like the 3-year period. But if you wanted to add complexity (and let's face it, the league clearly doesn't have enough rules as it is), you could build in the concept of longer-term contracts.

It could work like this: Up to three players may be on a 4- or 5-year contract at any time per franchise, but in order to place them on it, you need to declare it before their 2nd (or 3rd, I dunno) time kept. And you can't change your mind. You never get that draft pick back by dropping the player. The contract can't be cancelled after it's signed, even if the player drops out of baseball. The only way you can get that draft pick back is if you trade the player to another franchise, which then assumes responsibility for using that pick in the same round for them the relevant year(s).

I'm not seriously arguing for this; just throwing the idea out there as a way of balancing things and adding a new wrinkle.

Okay, here's one. K-Rod is injured and out for the season, but he was placed on the "disqualified list" instead of the DL, so I can't move him to my injured players. What can I do? Do I have to cut him / reserve him?

Okay, here's one. K-Rod is injured and out for the season, but he was placed on the "disqualified list" instead of the DL, so I can't move him to my injured players. What can I do? Do I have to cut him / reserve him?
Are you thinking of taking him as a 3rd Round Keeper next season?

I'm 99% sure I won't. However, I have a DL spot open, so if in this kind of situations the player can be moved to the DL, I really have nothing to lose by putting him there.

you can bench him, but i think only players on the DL can be moved to the DL.

He's injured and out for the season. I think he should be eligible for the DL.

I agree with Steve. He should be on the DL. The Mets are playing games with his contract.

But he's not on the DL. Same thing could happen in September. Player gets injured, but is not on the DL b/c of the 40-man roster....why not just drop him if you wouldn't keep him in the 3rd round?

He is on the DL though. Since the Mets are disputing his contract it's under dispute. This isn't like a Ben Sheets deal where he was injured with no team. K Rod has a contract with a ML team, he is injured and out and on the DL. He should absolutely qualify for it.

I would not make such a big deal and drop him too since he's virtually unkeepable. But for logistics purposes I believe he should be on the DL.
