This was suggested last year but I think the league champion should get a free buyin the next year with everyone else contributing $1 extra

I forget if I commented on this last year, but it seems like a solid idea. It would be a nice reward for winning a very tough league.Originally Posted by Stupid Flanders

Just like the luxury tax and revenue sharing in MLB being designed to screw the Yanks this extra fee is meant to deter international (Canadian) teams from participating. I will however play your silly game and pony up the $1.03 US$ to remain in the league.Originally Posted by Soriambi

I will bring this issue up (champion gets a free buyin the next year) to a vote in the middle of January. The issue The Future brought out regarding amount of mL Keepers allotted to each team is intriguing since I've always felt that maybe we could add two or three Minor Leaguers to each team since there are generally more than 5 good minor leaguers on each team in real life, but this is fantasy, so that point may be moot. What do y'all think?

I think 5 is a good number, because we only get 4 ML keepers. So having more mL players won't help much, since once they get to the majors, you'd have to keep them with a ML keeper. And since there's always a ML player or two who you got for a steal and want to keep, what good is it having 3, 4 or more mL players who need to be kept with a ML keeper, if you can't keep them all?
Plus, it reduces the number of rookies available on the Free Agent market once the season starts, since instead of there being 100 mL players on rosters, there would be 200.
I would rather increase bench spots and/or DL spots, than mL spots.

If a moderator could please sticky this thread it would be great. That way it would provide members of the league easy access to find a place to discuss potential rule changes.

if i am paying 1.00 extra dollar then i demand we increase the minor league roster spots from 5 to 10. I just like the idea of having a top 10 just like the real life major league teams do and I think this would increase the activity in the league becasue people would always be searching for a good prospect to improve their team or their minor or improve their big league team with their minors via trades.

I also think that five is enough minor leaguers.

I know this prolly is a stupid idea, but I was wondering if prospective owners who don't get the call up could start a "B-League." Though to be honest, I don't know if there would be enough interest for such a league. Is that something that the ownership would be interested in pursuing? Thanks so much!

We've discussed and eventually dismissed the idea in the past, mainly because it would take literally years for most people to get 'called up' to the A league, and by then you've already developed your own league rivalries and joining us has no charm. Also, we can barely take care of ourselves without killing each other as it is, nevermind adding a bunch of new voices to the fray!Originally Posted by machphantom

It was a pretty good idea I thought. The forumer who came up with the plan presented a well thought out league. Majority ruled, it never saw the light of day.Originally Posted by patrick.o

Actually, that's how the Auction League started...but it doesn't follow the same rules as this league.Originally Posted by machphantom

I've always thought it was a nice idea - an owner could always turn down a 'call up' to the A league and let someone else have the spot. I think the question is whether you can assemble enough owners to make it worthwhile.
I'd join, assuming I don't get into the original league in 2010.

After years and years and years of bitching and complaining I think we might have everything just about covered. I can't say that I won't have opinions about rule changes but personally I don't have any rule changes to propose other than giving my team an automatic spot in the finals - not sure if that one will fly though.Originally Posted by YanksRockMan

Fair enough, I can see that Patrick does a fantastic job and the last thing I would want to do is overburden him with the task of managing yet another league. If we wanted to start up something independently, what site would you recommend?

What about our tie breaker rule? We decided to play "extra innings" in the playoffs (an 8th day). Should we do that in the regular season, too, to avoid ties?

Interesting. I really would like to get rid of ties and this would possibly be the best remedy (home field advantage be damned). I'll put it into a vote after everyone has signed up and paid.Originally Posted by patrick.o

I had an idea about mLers called up, but then sent back down. I'll try to find it.
Any idea where I can find the rules? Being a newbie and all, I think the constitution would be very helpful![]()

I have a question about moving players to/from the minor league spots. For example - Strasburg has been picked up in the major league draft, but he has rookie eligibility and might start the season in the minors. Can he be moved to a minor league slot? Also - if I move a player from my minors to the active squad, can I move him back - if he still retains rookie eligibility, that is?
And about IR spots... I remember in the auction league we had 7 days to activate a player that has been moved in real life from the IR to the squad. Is it the same here?
Proud supporter of the NY Yankees, NY Giants, NY Knicks, FC Liverpool and Rapid Bucharest
mL rule is that if the guy is in the real life minors and has <50IP and/or <130AB you can put him on your minors bench. If he gets called up you can leave him in your minors for the whole season if you like. If you bring him up you can only send him back down if he goes back down in real life and still meets the IP/AB requirements.Originally Posted by ChrisRo
Strasburg will start the season in the minors and as such can be moved there in our league and then can be left there all year whether he gets called up or not and whether he passes 50 IP or not. Chapman will start the season in the majors and cannot be put in our minors, unless he gets sent down before he reaches 50 IP.

It should also be noted that even if they're in your minor league system, they must be kept as major league keepers since they were picked in the major league draft.Originally Posted by patrick.o

sunuvabitch I always thought you needed to promote the player once they reached the stats. I had no idea you could stash the entire season. Kinda wish I'd read the constitution a little better. Grumble.

Guys, what's the rule regarding SP missed starts? Is there any penalty if one of the SP misses his start for the week?

You mean if a guy is scheduled to start and then doesn't? There's no penalty for that.

You don't get penalized. You can't control how a manager manages his staff that would be an absurd penalty.

I disagree. Shortening the time is only making it more likely that bad trades will go through. Three days isn't very long.
