Monday game 3 - Yanks to open the Stadium

I just heard on the radio that the Yankees will be opening the Great Hall and the Field Level to fans who want to watch the Game on Monday. Anyone else confirm? If so, Anyone going?? The TV screen is bigger than mine at home.

oooooooh that sounds interesting. if the game was at 10, the usual start for an LA game i dont think it would be worth it but if the weather is nice, i might just go out there. i love being around fans when theres a game on and getting to watch the game on the big screen, i like it. but its all gonna depend on the weather

"fans can watch it in the Great Hall or in the open sections of the Field Level."

    What exactly does that mean?

Wow, that's pretty cool. I have to work, but maybe I'll get there after work!

I guess this makes sense - the stadium can sell more food, etc.!
You gotta have fun. Regardless of how you look at it, we're playing a game. It's a business, it's our job, but I don't think you can do well unless you're having fun.~Derek Jeter

I'm sure it means no one gets to sit in Legends seats.

If graduates from NYU arent allowed to sit there during a graduation ceremony, you can bet the house that people getting into the stadium for free won't be sitting there

That's pretty awesome, maybe I can get the Mariners to do the same.

That's really cool. I'd consider it if I didn't have a meeting that morning.

How the hell are they doing crowd control? It could very well be a nightmare.

Sounds like a nice idea, but that occurred to me as well--there's only so many seats in the non-Legends sections of the field.

Crowd control? That's simple. Just outfit the security people with night sticks and bust a few heads. Everyone else will fall into line.

Crowd and flow control, I suppose. If like 60k show up, where will they all go?

Good point. It does seem that there is no good way to estimate the number of people that might show up. If it is 100, no problem. If it is much more than 5000, I'd say there could be trouble. The fact is, there could be anywhere from a few hundred to tens of thousands and the Yankees have no way to know that number.

They could barely crack 50K for real games. I don't think 60K will show up to watch on TV.

I don't think that many will come but the "real" games you are talking about weren't FREE
it is a great chance for some to get inside who wouldn't pay the ticket prices.

Well, even if 40k come, there's not that much space in the Great Hall and field level.

I guess they're not betting on thousands attending, but I wonder how many can enter before it gets uncomfortable?

Guys, I was kidding. But realistically, I don't think too many people are going to show up, mostly because of the time the game starts. I would go myself, but I don't want to take the extra time getting there when I could just go home and catch more of the game.

So do people just show up? Is it free? That MLB article didn't explain much...

Are they going to show the game on the big screen in center field?

This is a nice idea and I don't think a ton of people will be there. Lots of people work and many people likely have no idea that the Yankees are doing this.

Because if people don't spend enough on concessions, the team will lose money having to pay the employees on hand.

I suppose they're banking on enough people coming. I notice they are only opening 30 min. early, unlike the 3 hours they open ahead of games.

At the prices they charge, I don't think they're going to need to sell that much to make some money here.

I was wondering that, too. Maybe they're waiting to see how Monday night works out, experimentally.

I doubt it, since technically this isnt an event. You would have to pay the non game day price

also since its not an event I'd imagine you could get away with parking on the streets near the stadium

Don't be so sure. it is a sanctioned "Yankee" event. Even if it is allowed, the Traffic folks will THINK that it is and write them anyway. You'll then have to fight it.

I want to know what the crowd looks like at th stadium? How many people are there and what the experience is like. I would go if I wasn't at work and it wasn't seriously cold outside.

I bet the crowd is going to be substantially bigger tomorrow because it is not during the workday... The line to get in looks INSANE right now on Yes

Big crowd? Cool, I want this to be a success so the Yankees keep trying it out, at least until I get a chance to go. Are they doing it tomorrow? Didn't know that had been announced. It should be crazier since afte work hours and the weather gets back up to 60s.

They just showed a view on the inside on YES, people were allowed down to the Legends seats.. I wonder if they had to pay anything to sit there or just get there ridiculously early to be first on line?

I was there. They allowed people from section 110-122 on the field level.
Then sec 11-17A, 19-20 in the legends.
(went to the newsstand by the train to get snacks and drinks )
place was a bit loud, especially in the later innings. And they played Enter Sandman and New York, New York... too bad we lost. heres a pic I snagged with my phone:

I was there and it was a good time. They didn't let people into all of the Legends seats which was kinda dick. Why have people 15 rows back behind empty seats? Other than that... it was a great time and I hope they continue it.

im curious as to how they decided who to let into the legends seats. was it first come first serve? did you happen to hear if they might be doing it again? approximately how many people do you think showed up?

If none of the "perks" are available, there is no real difference between that and field seats except for being really comfortable seats.. in fact the seats further back probably had a little better view of the screen

very true, I mean you were looking at the screen not the action on the field since there was none

i heard a report on NY1 saying that there are no future dates announced to open the stadium for away games.

im kinda assuming they didnt make enough money off of monday nights game in sales, which is why they havent done it again. but thats just my guess

Monday was also a afternoon game. I'm not sure it would be as successful when games have an 8 PM start time.
