I think they all picked the Yanks to win the ALDS too.
That could be the only logical explanation.Originally Posted by PinstripePride

Watching SportsCenter this morning, The Lead on the bottom line said "Angels look to avenge Game 1 loss, tie ALCS." I bet if the Angels had won Game 1 the headline would be "Angels look to head to Los Angeles up 2-0 on the Yankees."

What a joke. If they weren't so biased, they'd all be predicting sweeps.

Actually, Buster grew up a huge Dodgers fan.Originally Posted by YankeesFanJS

Hey you and I and most people here are very biased towards the Yankees. If we are biased, and we are, why can't we allow others to be biased?

Probably b/c the play-by-play/reporters make a living from this and they are supposed to be neutral. We are fans, who follow our teams for leisure.Originally Posted by Nome

National sports broadcasters shouldn't be biased. They are broadcasting for a diverse audience, one that includes passionate fans for each competing team, and lots of fans who are neutral. Rooting for one team or the other would affect the quality of the broadcast.
A team broadcaster is a different animal. His or her audience is biased and wants a sympathetic broadcaster who, at the very least, likes their team. No fan wants any broadcaster, local team or national, to give a biased account of the game. If your team is playing poorly - you want the broadcaster to note it. If a player on the other team makes a great catch, you want it accurately called. As long as an announcer details the game action accurately, there is nothing wrong, IMO, with said annouoncer having a rooting interest in the team he or she is covering. One thing I like about John Sterling is that he will kill The Yankees as a whole, or individual players, for poor performances, or bonehead plays, yet he roots for The Yankees. You can tell he is a Yankee fan. (Too bad he is terrible at calling plays - not because of bias - more because ineptness.)
National broadcasters, at the very least, should state their bias up front, if they have one. For instance, Joe Buck could say, "I was raised a Cardinal fan." and then begin the broadcast. And under no circumstances should they be rooting for either team or competitor to win.
What most of us object to is uneven reporting. I've heard Tim McCarver for years and he always seems to favor the other team. I don't say that about every one. I happen to think Ron Darling was very fair. I also happen to think Joe Morgan has become surprisingly fair. The fact that he still thinks no one can touch The Big Red Machine is a flaw for which listeners can compensate. Joe Buck - he just likes to make smug remarks about anyone and anything he can think of. He and McCarver are the worst.
We dont talk and analyze on a national level. They should be held to a higher standard of partiality because it is their job and people rely on their information. We do not and should not have that burden.Originally Posted by Nome
But they were local broadcasters, not national ones. Their is a very significant difference there even if you do wish to acknowledge it and then ignore it.Originally Posted by Nome
A simple way to solve the national broadcaster issue is have one announcer from each team call the game together, than we would have nothing to talk/complain about.Originally Posted by Nome

See what I'm sayin'? Once the Yanks win, they'll praise them as they should. But for now, they're going to openly "root" for the underdog because it's the better story. It's false hope, but it's still the better story.

September 28, 2008 - the day the HOF got a wake-up Moose call.

Kruk's reason for picking the Phillies was that the Yankees haven't seen a high powered offense like THIS in the postseason! Crazyness. First of all, the Angels offense offers fewer power threats, but is arguably just as good if not better at scoring runs, and they're at least just a strong depth-wise. Secondly, the exact same thing applies to the Phillies in spades! They faced two comparatively inferior offenses than what the Yankees bring to the table. So how is this the deciding factor tilting things in their favor? /boggleOriginally Posted by 35Knucklecurve

I've been saying this for a long time. Many years ago, during the WS games the lead broadcaster from each team would split the calling of the games and I always felt this was a fair way to do it. I guess FOX and ESPN feel that they have to use their announcers who are under contract to them be the major announcers.Originally Posted by BRNXBMRS

Kruk was hilarious on BBTN after game 3. He looked like he was about to explode and made a complete fool out of himself. Very entertaining stuff. He looked and sounded exactly like a drunk fan after their team goes up by 3 runs only to get punched out and ended up losing by 3. Really, really pissed off looking to take it out on the Umps for making a right call.
ESPN at it's best.

Yeah I just posted about this in the umpire thread. His comments reminded me of one of those malcontents who show up to town hall meetings full of piss and vinegar but no substance to their argument. It's just ranting for the sake of ranting to push an agenda. He sounded like a cranky old drunk fool.Originally Posted by OldYankeeFan

Watching the pre-game stuff on MLB network. Feels like this show is a local Philadelphia production. Just watching interviews with Luzinski, Ryan Madson and Brad Lidge. Then a discussion about getting Lidge into a game with Barry Larkin saying, "hopefully it will be in a game where the Phils have a lead late in the game". I don't watch the MLB network all that much but this is a bit tough to take. Now, talking about Joe Blanton's homer last year. In the last 15 minutes, they have not mentioned the Yanks.
It's ok. They'll be talking about them for a few months until Opening Day. =)
They have a lot of time to kill. I didn't see any bias yesterday and actually some praise about the Yanks. They also interviewed Phil Coke yesterday.Originally Posted by Yankee Steve

Jim Caple... Really... Did he really have to go there? He asks the translator for the Chinese Broadcasts how to say "Yankees Suck" in I Chinese... what a d-bag... I WANT THE WIN TOMORROW IN THE WORST WAY... just so that ESPN now longer has anything to say beyond "They wonb because of their giant payroll"
In case that link does not take you directly to the clip... I am speaking about the "The World's Eyes are on the World Series" clip...
"In order to find his equal, an Irishman is forced to talk to God."
I know there are others like me who feel the same:
I'm starting to take this hate and bias against the Yankees in stride.
I am fine with the "world" hating on the Yankees. Finally, after we take #27, which will have taken the Yankees 9 years to get, then the whole world can just sit there and "take it" for the entire off-season. I can't wait.
Yeah it irks me a little when they take unnecessary jabs at my Yankees, be it ESPN, MLB network, etc. Jeter is overrated. Jeter's range is limited. Arod and PEDS. Salary, Salary, Salary. Whatever.
If everybody wasn't hating on the Yankees, then the Yankees aren't trying to win. Does anybody hate the Royals as much? Does anybody hate the Pirates as much? So bring on the hate. Bring on the anti-Yankee Bias. IT JUST MEANS WE'RE THAT GOOD.
Cue the "yanks should win b/c of their payroll" cry in about 24 hours
Dumb & Dumber
Well said...I've been getting to that point also. I just remind them that every single team would do it if they could and every fan would want them do it. Can't hate just because the Yankees fans actually go to games regularly and watch them on TV.Originally Posted by slickknick
