Last Yankee To Get A Win In His First Career Postseason Game

Before Dave Robertson today, who was the last Yankee to get a win in his first career postseason game?
It was also the first career postseason game for losing pitcher Jose Mijares.

I believe it was Phil Hughes--2007 ALDS Game 3 against Cleveland.

    Was it Quantrill?

It has to be Hughes. Before Wed. that was the Yankees last post season victory.

No. http://www.baseball-reference.com/pl...h01&t=p&post=1 says Hughes's first postseason game was Game 1. His win was in his second postseason game.

I don't know if he was the mosr recent Yankee, but Quantrill did it in 2004. Both Quantrill and Robertson did it in Game 2 of a Dvision Series in an extra inning walk-off win over Minnesota. Joe Nathan gave up exactly two runs in both games. Robertson got his win at age 24, while Quantrill got his at 35.

Only thing is .... Hughes did get his first career post season win -- but it came a few days after he had pitched another game for a no-decision. So it wasn't his first game pitched.

Sorry, first PS decision, not first game. I'll go back where I belong....

I'm not sure who did it last, but at least I can tell you the first one: Waite Hoyt, in 1921.

Evan, as a Yankee fan, are you looking for answers that are shaded only towards any Yankee post-season games as counting as firsts for a pitcher ... where previous post-season play with any other team's is thrown out as not counting as firsts? Your answer about that can make a difference. So ... are you looking for first wins while only wearing pinstripes?

Yes. That makes it harder to do and Robertson being a reliever also makes it harder to do.

    Okay.

Orlando Hernandez won his first three in post-season. And "Babe Ruth's Hat" won his first five games in post-season ... when just looking as a Yankee.
