I'll go along with those picks but I was half expecting to see a Joe Page argument from you.

    Rivera
    Gossage
    Lyle

Joe Page and Righetti should at least get a mention.

Good point on Page; I hadn't thought of him. He'd come in behind Righetti just because he only had a few years - but damn, those years were good.

According to BR-com, one of Page's nicknames was "The Gay Reliever." How times change.

He. I didn't see Muggs' Page reference. I still vote for him.

I came right out with, "I believe that was Bullet Bob Turley." She looked at me like I was nuts, even more so when it turned out I was right.

Then a few months later the Yankees were in Baltimore, and the trivia question on YES had to do with some pitcher doing something for both the Orioles and Yankees. Bob Turley. "Ah," Singleton said immediately, "Bullet Bob." My niece and I were on the phone within seconds.

Ever since then, the answer to any trivia question when we're together is, "I believe that was Bullet Bob Turley." Well, we were at one of the Boston games a couple of weeks ago, and they asked...1958 WS MVP. They must have known we were there.

JDPNYY's Question of the day - Tuesday 10/6/09

    My answer:
    Mariano Rivera
    Goose Gossage
    Sparky Lyle

    Final Results

    Mariano Rivera
    Goose Gossage
    Sparky Lyle

This concludes Tuesday's Question of the day

Feel free to carry on any discussions. Of which there were few.

Please don't give any new answers to this QoD. Barely got any in the first place, like this is a concern.

I loved it when they brought starters in like it was really the end of the earth.

Great story about your niece, those little things are life's spice. Sounds a little like my son and I when we watched Jeopardy together and the category was Shakespeare. We'd question very answer with, "Who was King Lear?"

What impressed me was he voted as high 3rd and 4th in the MVP voting.

I'm not sure it's apathy as much as pretty much total agreement.

Although I wonder how long it will be before there's another pitcher nicknamed "The Gay Reliever" and if that will mean a whole new level of acceptance!

I think it will be great when a big-time player (or even a regular) comes out of the closet - at any time, but especially when he's still playing.

As it stands, I know of only two players who ever came out.
