Yes, I was joking. Young children have no idea what a Pagan holiday is. They are having a great time, just like I did when I was a child.
    Let the kids play.

I don't live in NY. Can you read? I live in Alpharetta, GA and I was born in Chicago.

I'm glad you're leaving. We don't need people like you here spreading your diseased hate on the boards.

I am so with you on that Pippy. I hate kids. F hate them. The people who live next door to us in Mini-Bostonland have 3 small children who love to run around their yard naked, screaming at the top of their lungs. The parents don't care and just let them do it. One time I caught one of these spawns of Satan in my yard and I yelled at the kid to get out of my yard before I threw a rock at it.

They still make that?! Wow. I remember that from back in the day. My dad drank it when I was young. Then on one of those "I Love the 80s" things they have on VH1, they were talking about it and the tagline was "All the sugar and twice the caffeine".

Indeed, Bub. It actually has both Pagan (Samhain festival) and Christian (All Hallows/Saints Day) roots.

I don't look at numbers because to me, that doesn't always tell the whole story. Those players I mentioned were class acts who played hard for their respective teams. Some won championships, others didn't, but that didn't take away from the fact that most and more than likely all of them are in the HOF. Will Bonds get in the HOF? Probably, but that doesn't mean he's in the same caliber as some of the players there.

If he played for the Yankees, I'd still dislike him. A change in uniform doesn't mean a change in personality. He could be wearing a french maid's costume on the field and he'd still be a pompous ass to me.

I'm pretty sure if Bonds were wearing a french maid's costume on the field, it would only amplfy his assery.

Barry Bonds has an ego the size of Texas. I give no credence to anything he says. The fact that he thinks he may even come close to Babe Ruth in terms of greatness is absurd. All Barry Bonds has done for baseball is prove that steroids help you hit home runs.

So! Is anyone dressed up at work or what not today? If so, please describe.

My colleague and fellow Yankee fan who sits next to me is wearing prison stripes with a little striped cap. I can see his Jeter T-shirt underneath though.

This freak on our team is dressed in a plush-y lion costume. Makes me wonder if he has some kind of "furry" fetish.

This infamous twigs-n-berries dude who was a Power Ranger a few years ago (very awful male camel toe) sits near us now so I may have to do a stalk-by...

Halloween is for children, and as I'm no longer a child, I don't even hand out candy. I turn out all the lights and shut the blinds so people think no one's home. I can't be bothered to sit at the front door for hours and just pass out candy.

OK I didn't realize this was an anti thread. I did not want to start a new one and used our newly-functioning search function to locate this one....

You bring me to my next point, however...we recently moved to a neighborhood that seems like it will get a lot more TorT traffic than our old one. I'm not thrilled about having to be home most of the day tomorrow especially since the airblown grim-reaper-on-a-bike we have in our front yard is quite welcoming.

I never went trick-or-treating. You know why? I grew up in a gang-infested neighborhood in Alpine, NJ. You didn't go out of doors parading around after dark. It wasn't smart. The cops would ride down the street telling everyone to get back inside.

I just leave a bucket of candy out and refill every so often - I can't keep opening the door with Bucky there - he has a breakdown every time someone knocks, so stopping people before they get to the house is a good thing.

Meanwhile...I won't be home during the day and it's been awhile since Halloween was on the weekend - JP asked me what time he should put the bucket out and I couldn't tell him - what do all of you recommend?

I didn't grow up in some suburban, idyllic wonderland where there were white picket fences and swingsets in every backyard. I grew up in Alpine, NJ, in a bad neighborhood and you know what......I'm not missing anything because I didn't go knocking on strangers' doors asking for chocolate.

Ally, maybe 3-4-ish? Pretending it's like a school-day and that's the time the kids would be starting to go out???

Re: Are you ready for Halloween 2009?

Of course this year will be particularly troublesome (and challenging) as the little kiddies will have no school that day. They'll be out begging in force all day long.

Doesn't the first kid that shows up empty the bucket into his own bag? Happens here every time.

When I was a kid, I would substitute the McDonalds Coupons I would get with a thank you note on it and when I would find a house with a bucket of candy, I would empty it out and leave the coupons with the note

I got the giant Reese's variety bag and some regular Reese's and some mini Snickers & Milky Ways. JP loves Reese's and I can't stand Snickers or Milky Ways, so it should be good - he can have any leftovers and I won't be tempted!

Not often - I think because we're even more in da hood than Alpine, NJ here ( ), a lot of times the parents go with the kids and prevent that. Or maybe the kids are just scared I'll sic Bucky on them.

I have ZERO desire to have to keep running to the front door to hand out candy.

If there's someone else home, I make them do it.

Unfortunately, I'll be the only one home as my family will be performing in a Tuba Quartet Concert.
