http://msn.foxsports.com/nba/story/g...by-nets-051910New Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov can add a GM search to his to-do list.
He says Kiki Vandeweghe is all but finished with the team, telling reporters "His contract is up and I wish him luck" at a brunch Wednesday morning, according to a report in The Star-Ledger.
Prokhorov, who was on hand at the NBA Draft Lottery Tuesday night, also says the team isn't holding out hope of landing Duke's Mike Krzyzewski as its next coach, saying "The new coach must have NBA experience. Coach K does not have NBA experience."
The new owner did give team president Rod Thorn a vote of confidence, saying a contract extension with Thorn is in the works.

Meh, not really. The pick they were most likely to get was 4th. It happens, and we can't really do anything about it now.Originally Posted by Hellsing
Thank god, Kiki was awful. While he was okay at blowing up the team, he's got no vision on team building, and was scummy.
I think the Nets would gain a huge tactical advantage if the Wolves skip over Turner for Cousins. I'd love to see a Nets-Wolves deal, centered around Harris+Turner for Rubio+Love/4th pick.
The only advantage I see too Mikey, besides the lulz, is scouting connections on international guys.
I think the Nets are more likely than most teams to find eurogems now, and that's a good thing for them.

Cousins to me looks like Derick Coleman Part II. He takes nights off and his work ethic has been challenged through high school into college. He's a physically gifted athlete and probably more polished at this point than Favors, but I think Favors is a safer bet. For whatever reason, I get a real Sean Williams vibe from Cousins (obviously more of a skill set, just that sorta stoner mentality).Originally Posted by Joba-Walkee

I like Prokhorov's management style a lot, and I think it's a huge upgrade over Ratner, who essentially knew nothing about basketball, let alone the NBA.
I also think his life style will attract some players, but I think that is overblown.
Very interesting perspective on Prokhorov done by espn.com's Bill Simmons (The Sports Guy): http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2...1&sportCat=nba
He breaks down the media blitz from this past week, compiling facts from a bunch of different interviews and adds some insight to the direction the franchise may or may not go in...I enjoyed it

Bunch of talks about Paul to the Nets. I'd be all over the deal if it was something like, #3, Harris (possibly in a three way. Get them #10 and Troy Murphy or sometihng), one of the late picks (depending on which the Hornets want) and Yi or Humphries if they want, for Mo Pete or Posey and Paul. I don't think Paul's BYC comes into account because the Nets are so far under the cap.
They'd still have enough room for LeBron, and supposedly Wes has been telling teams that trading for Paul would increase their chances. I would put him at PF in that scenario. Saves him years on his career, increases his scoring, saves him energy for the playoffs.
Imagine something like:
Paul
Lee
Williams
LeBron
Lopez

CDR's been dealt to the Bucks for a 2nd. Thank god.

At least they had that amazing bench!
That team was god awful. The idea that players like Carter and Krstic, two strictly half court players, could coexist with Jefferson and Kidd was ridiculous from the get-go. Frank made it work.
Kidd averaged 13.3, 7.3, and 8.4 during the regular season. That was a great year from Kidd.Originally Posted by Joba-Walkee

Krstic shot 51% that year. Is that a scrub-tastic number? I don't think so.
Carter averaged 24.2 ppg.
That team was definitely God awful. Give me a break.
EDIT: I just did some digging to find out what the Nets were projected to do before the season. Chad Ford had them 4th OVERALL on his power rankings. SI had them third. TSN had them 6th. Many other outlets projected them to win the Atlantic or challenge for the Eastern Conference Title.

Yay cherry picking.
Kidd had a good year because he's Jason freaking Kidd. But it was clear throughout the season that he wasn't the same Kidd who got the Nets to the finals three years ago. Worse, he was playing all of those minutes.
Jefferson also stopped playing hard defense that year, and hardly created for others on the offensive end. He basically lived off of Carter and Kidd's play making in the half court.
Okay, right here you just took the prettiest number you could find and rounded it up. If the nicest thing you can say about your low volume C with weak defense and rebounding is that he shot 50.7% on 11 shots, you wouldn't think much of him.
Carter was who he always was that season. A half court, inefficient scorer, who could create for himself and others.
Of course they were projected to win the Atlantic. The whole division was crap.
Lol talk about cherry picking.Originally Posted by Joba-Walkee
Your comment was obviously blatantly wrong about scrub-tastic offense.
Krstic averaged 15 ppg and 8 rpg over the last 2 months of the season.
You talk about them projected to win the Atlantic, but you don't bring up what I said about Chad Ford, SI, or TSN? Why not? Because it might be bad for your argument? There were also numerous other places that had the Nets highly ranked.
Anyway, I'm done with this argument because it's clear that you show no signs of rational thinking.

Sources say one team that all but eliminated itself with James in the presentation process was the New York Knicks. James met with the organization on Friday and his inner-circle has described New York’s presentation as lacking preparedness and organization. James’ camp also found it to be redundant to much of the New Jersey Nets’ far sharper, edgier presentation on James’ earning power.
James hasn’t been convinced that he can overcome the $30 million difference between possible Cleveland and New York offers through endorsements and other streams of revenue. However, Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov’s vision of bulking up James’ international portfolio did resonate with him, and the Nets vision of using Brooklyn and the owner’s international muscle does appeal to him.

The Nets put together a really good pitch team, and have the best talent to put around two FA.
I'm still not a fan of the "Sell everything for two max FA" idea but the Nets have done it in a smart way. They've scrapped crappy players (Yi, CDR), while only giving up one valuable, but in our case pretty much infinite, resource: money.
Lopez and Harris pretty much cancel out Rose and Noah, with Lopez being superior to Noah, and Rose to Harris.
The Bulls are left with Deng, Gibson, and James Johnson. Terrence Williams, Courtney Lee, Damian James, and Derrick Favors, and Kris Humphries is superior to that, imo. Keep in mind that the Bulls will either have to dump Deng or both Gibson and Johnson, while the Nets just have to dump Humphries. The Bulls would have to fit a lot of roster spots.
I'm not a Nets fan but I like this team becasue of Lopez. If they can get LBJ, all I can say is "WOW". I really don't expect that.

Ugh. Prtichard is on the market, and Colangelo is interested, and we're going after Jeff Bower?
However, according to Kerber, Presti is leading the field, which would be a Colangelo-level get.

Bosh, Lopez, Favors is the closest thing LeBron can get to Odom, Bynum, Gasol or Perkins, Garnett, Rasheed, and Baby.
I hope he recognizes that.

New Orleans Hornets GM Jeff Bower has withdrawn from consideration for the New Jersey Nets general manager’s job, the Hornets announced in a statement.
Bower interviewed for the Nets job on Saturday in New York with owner Mikhail Prokhorov and outgoing GM Rod Thorn.
The Nets could open the search to more outside candidates or turn to an internal candidate with strong support from Thorn, assistant GM Bobby Marks.
Sources believe Bower shares the sentiments of several other prospective candidates who have backed away from interest in the job: They’re uneasy working with new Nets coach Avery Johnson, whom sources say is trying to gather front-office power for himself.
Sources say Johnson was vehemently against the hiring of Bower, who didn’t hire him to be the Hornets coach.
“It is not the right fit for the Nets, or myself,” Bower said in the statement.

Avery is power-tripping already? Who does he think he is, Kiki?

It's pretty well known that an NBA team needs a solid 8 man rotation to be a real contender. Assuming the Nets get LeBron and Bosh and ship out Humphries, they are trotting out, from best to worst:
L. James
Bosh
Lopez
Harris
Favors
Williams
Lee
D. James
Personally, I'd put Harris on the bench to start off games, but still get him 30 minutes a night.
Williams (but defending SG)
Lee (but defending PG)
L. James
Bosh
Lopez
Harris, D. James, Favors off the bench.
Compare that to the Lakers from last season:
Top 8 by minutes played:
Bryant
Gasol
Artest
Odom
Bynum
Fisher
Brown
Farmar
From a purely 1 on 1 stand point (which is lame, I know) I like LeBron more than Kobe, but Pau is better than Bosh imo. They cancel out in my mind. Lopez is far, far better than Artest. Harris has a small advantage over Odom. Bynum, at this point, clearly has an advantage over Favors at this point, though health may take Bynum out of the picture. If Williams is as good as he was in the last two months (and as awesome as he looked yesterday), he is better than Fisher. Lee is better than Brown, but they're hard to compare. I'd listen to an argument saying that they're dead even. I've never watched James, so I have no idea if he's better than Farmar.
Would any top 8 rotation type FA be willing to accept the minimum? Would Hayes and Dooling be willing to re-sign for the minimum?
Either way, no other team can ensure a top 8 like that, since most only have 4 players or less.
TL;DR, the Nets would have a pretty badass rotation of 8 if Bosh and LeBron came on board.
How come no one posted the huge news about Travis Outlaw signing a 35 mil dollar deal with Korver and Ty Thomas following close behind? This is huge for you Joba and you missed the scoop.
