3 and 1........win it.
I am beyond pumped right now. I can't sit down

We need this win. Jobs needs to step up, and the offense needs to beat the crap out of Smoltz. Get to their pen early. Make them tired for the rest of series, especially after going 14 innings with the Rays.
Calmer than you are.
Sweep!!!!!

Dumb & Dumber

Time to handle some business.
Negative. His cutter is not a human pitch, even he says he does not know why it moves like it does, says "God does it." I believe him.
BEAT BOSTON
Again, and again, and again . . .
The most excited I've been for a series in a looooooong time.
...Even though I'll probably hate it as soon as the game starts. These things take too many years off my life due to stress.Originally Posted by THEBOSS84

1918 should be in full force the second the Sox step in the batters box.
The coming of The Carpenter.
“I love to hit. I want to hit .300, .400, .500. I just love to hit.”
Somewhat concerned about our 25-29 record against teams over .500, but firing on all cylinders and best home team in the majors.

We were firing on all cylinders last time we played Boston, then got raped.
I remember Johnny Damon was on the on-field post game interview before that series too just like he was last night.
Calmer than you are.
The Sox are 1-8 in their last 9 games against teams with an above .500 record.

Not confident at all, not excited at all.
The White Sox series was pretty much a kidney punch for me and now I'm just trying to pee without pain, let alone manage to get excited.
Win one for The Boss.
Dumb & Dumber
With Bay out, the Sox will be forced to put 4 guys in the the starting lineup with OPS+ of less than 100. Victor Martinez has the 2nd highest OPS+ of any Boston player who is able to play with 119. Robbie Cano is 7th out of players in the Yankee lineup with an OPS+ of 119.
The Yankees have a lot of advantages in tonight's game and they need to capitalize. Obviously, Yanks/Sox games have the tendency to go completely unaccording to common sense, but this should be a win.
Just win.
Same here. Can't wait to go tonight. I found my old 1918 shirt to wear to the game.Originally Posted by THEBOSS84

Must crush the Ghost of John Smoltz.

Listen, I can't concentrate today at work.
I'm waiting for this game and I'm counting down the hours until I leave work so I can get home and settle in. I know its a "big game" for me when I break out the T-Bone steak and the Garlic Fries and have them ready to cook when I step in the house.
All I can read today is Yankee and Red Sox news. The outside world is irrelevant. Who is in the same boat?
I think of a quote that I heard one time on WWE that I have brought to this weekend:
Win, lose, draw...it ain't over. You are never going to be through with me. You'll have to kill me first. Win, lose or draw, I will always be on your ass. - Stone Cold Steve Austin

Oh I kind of meant that Smoltz is a shell of his former self and needs to be kicked while he's down.Originally Posted by frostdude1

Tonight's game is the most critical in the series. If Joba can lead the Yanks to victory, then that takes a lot of pressure off AJ and CC. If we split game 2 and 3, then at worst, we split the series with the Sox.
It would be thoroughly disappointing if we dont trounce smoltz tonight.
If our offense doesn't dismantle Smoltz's soul tonight, then I will be worried for the rest of the series. Absolutely no reason we shouldn't win tonights game.
Javy Vazquez's 2010 non-Cy Young season: 4-10, 7.15 ERA, 140 Ks, 170 IP.
Dismantle his soul? I like the sound of that.Originally Posted by DEADSOX

I just hope Smoltz doesn't decide to pitch a gem tonight. The Yankees have to win this game and get the monkey off of their back and try and get another one over the weekend. With Beckett and Lester going I would be happy with a split. The amazing thing is the Sox could sweep this series, be 12-0 against the Yankees and have only a 1.5 game lead in the standings. That is unreal
I think on the broadcast last night, they said the Rays were 27 of 30 against the Sox this year in SBs. Run, Run, Run!

They're faster then we are though, but we do need to atleast make Varitek/Martinez make the throw and get us out.Originally Posted by Ssacco08

True, but we still have a few guys capable of stealing some bases. Would like to see Damon build on those 8 he has this year.
Any word on if they're calling anyone up for tonight?

Win this ballgame.
Preferably by scoring 8,000 runs off of Smoltz in the first 3 innings, but I'll take any kind of win.
