7.31.09 - NYY @ CHW: All Pregame Info & Discussion

With the 2009 MLB Trade Deadline upcoming at 4PM today, the Yankees (62-40) continue their series in Chicago tonight against the White Sox (52-51). Despite last night’s 9th inning heroics by Nick Swisher Tonight in Chicago, the Yankees were victimized by a walk-off and had their lead in the AL East trimmed to 2.5 games.

Tonight RH Sergio Mitre (1-0, 5.91) squares off against White Sox LH Clayton Richard (4-3, 4.65).

Mitre has thrown just 10.2 IP over his first 2 starts with NYY, already allowing 17 hits with just 5 strikeouts, but has only walked 1 batter and boasts an impressive 21:6 GO:AO.

Richard began the season in the Chicago bullpen, pitching in 12 of the team’s first 32 games through May 10th, and only breaking the 30 pitch plateau twice. On May 12th he made his first start of the season and has remained in that rotation slot. In
14 GS he’s made just 5 QS, but 2 of them have come in his past 2 outings where he put up identical 8IP/1ER lines against the formidable offenses of Tampa Bay and Detroit.

Overall, Richard has thrown 89 innings and given up 94 hits and 10 HR with 37 walks (3.7/9) and 66 strikeouts (6.7/9). He has a WHIP of 1.46 and GO:AO of 1.33 with a BAbip of .318.

The Yankees have recalled RH OF/1B Shelley Duncan from AAA Scranton. He had been hitting .268/.363/.548 at Scranton with 25 HR in 386 PA. Duncan has had just 148 PA in the Majors for his career: .221/.299/.435 with 8 HR, 15 BB, and 33 K.

LH vs. Richard (89 AB): .213/.273/.360
RH vs. Richard (251 AB): .299/.372/.442

Mediocre lefty, we better hit this guy, especially with Mitre going.

    TBT!!!

About 2 hours away from leaving the job for the ballpark again. Even with the rain delay last night, not much of a liquored up crowd.

I'm a little worried about Mitre tonight. But to hear the White Sox own fans tell us yesterday, "Outside of Beckham, no one else on the team can hit."

We came in force last night, but I was still disappointed that they only got 31,000 in the park. Recession is what I'm hearing mixed in with their fans trying to recoup $ on extra season tickets by hiking up Yankee prices and no one biting because the Sox themselves still have great seats available.

Can Mitre give us 6 IP without getting killed? I hope so. But I have a feeling this game reeks of a 10-7 slugfest type game.

Why do I need this kind of stress on the day before my birthday? At least I'll see AJ tomorrow deal.

Is Posada going to be in the lineup? If so, listen out for the HIP HIP JORGE cheer.

"The Chicago White Sox acquired Jake Peavy from the San Diego Padres for four players.
The Sox sent pitchers Aaron Poreda, Clayton Richard, Dexter Carter and Adam Russell.
Peavy, who has been on the disabled list since June 9 with an ankle injury, had a complete no-trade clause. He's a two-time All-Star and won the Cy Young Award in 2007."

    Now who's pitching tonight?
The Yankees are now 206-1 when Mariano has been asked to protect a four-run lead.

Money line for today's game was -118 Yankees , but it has been scratched since D.J. Carrasco is the replacement White Sox pitcher for the game

    and O/U was 10 1/2

    Jeter SS
    Damon LF
    Teixeira 1B
    Rodriguez 3B
    Matsui DH
    Posada C
    Cano 2B
    Cabrera CF
    Hinske LF

I guess Joe feels compeled to sit guy who hit game tying HRs. I guess Carraso is RHP since Hinske is getting a start. With 2 lefites this weekend makes sense.

And I guess JOe is expecting a lot balls to be hit to LF with Damon & Hinske both out there.

    the rest is just details.
