    Who's left to get?

The yankees need a starter. If they can't get one, they should get a reliever...

Other than Halladay, who we are not getting (99% chance), who else is out there?

I was disappointed that we lost out on Washburn.

I would say Davis is available, as is Garland.
On the other hand, you have different fingers.

You'd be better off starting a guy in AAA than trading for Davis or Garland.

Garland sucks but Davis is definitely better than Mitre or someone that we could bring up from AAA right now. I wouldn't give up much but I doubt Arizona is asking for that much to begin with. Their team stinks and, IIRC, he's a free agent after this year. They really have no leverage so he could and should come cheap. He throws really slow and would be perfect for sandwiching inbetween two of our harder throwers.

They have to do something. How can we let Mitre start for another few weeks...it's ridiculous. We're in a pennant race here

Yeah I looked at Davis's numbers and they're not bad. Even if he pitches in the 4.25-4.5 era range (his era now is 3.67), that would be a significant upgrade.

Guys it's ok, let's break down our trade.

Jason Hirsch is 27. 2+7=9. He's got an ERA of 6.66 (we're the Evil Empire, so this is warranted). 6+6+6=18, we're going to cheat a little and put a 1 in front of that 9, and combine it with 18, not add. That's 1918. Manny, Ortiz, and Brandon Arroyo tainted their WS wins. So technically the Sox still haven't won, and we get our old cheer back.

Now if you add 19+18 you get 37, which is probably how many bottles of lube Theo sent Shapiro for the V-Mart trade.

We call up Shelly Duncan, Red Sox get V-Mart, and all our targets get traded for garbage.

There is no one left to get. The Yanks has to battle with what they got. The team needs to circle their wagons and go play even better than they have.

No, they just have to actually start hitting against any #1 or #2 opposing starters they face and Alex Rodriguez has to look at the calendar and realize it's an odd numbered year.

    Re: Who's left to get?

El Duque has to be better than Mitre. He's obviously not a solution at his age, (whatever that may be) but he's an upgrade in all likelihood. Maybe give Mulder a shot too. Anything is better than Mitre.

Mariners wanted Montero or Jackson for Washburn.
Washburn is a lefty flyball pitcher in Seattle with pretty much the best OF defense behind him -- he wasn't that good anyway.

All offers for Felix Hernandez were shut down. I bet the Mariners wanted an absolute fortune for him. Hughes/Joba + Montero + A-Jax + ..., you get the idea.

The Yankees deal for the Royals with Bannister fell apart because the Royals wouldn't pay 650k on his deal. This made me sad. I like Bannister.
Sanji's Bold Predictions: Carl Pavano will out pitch AJ Burnett from July 23rd, 2009 forward.

    87.2IP 4.62 ERA 45ER v. 86.2IP 4.47 ERA 43ER, from 2009.

    154.2IP 3.32 ERA vs. 126.0IP 4.93 ERA in 2010.

    Re: Who's left to get?

There are stories out there that ownership gave Cashman a choice... You can sign Texiera in the pre-season but in exchange, not have much monetary flexibility during the season. Cash took the deal, which I think we would all agree was well worth the downside. Now we are experiencing that downside and have no money to spend - hence the Bannister story. We need to stop blaming Cashman for not being able to make a deal. His monetary hands were tied.

Like somebody said in another thread, if money became an issue bidding against yourself for A-Rod, Mariano, CC, and Posada was a bad choice.

Even still, you're just placing a band-aid on an amputated leg. We really need a legitimate #5 starter.

I had heard on the radio up here the Sox made a 5 for 1 offer and that the Mariners actually thought about it...

    Re: Who's left to get?

I think we have to go out there get guys like El Duque, Paul Byrd, and while they're getting ready let Mitre start.

I'd also send Aceves down to get things back together and possibly be stretched out into a starting role.

Then of course we need to be scouring the waiver wire. If a guy like Garland slips through we should go after him. Garland started out slow but has really been pitching well in the second half. He's also a big time innings eater which is exactly what you want in the back of your rotation. He'll go deep into games and give this team a shot to win.
