Thread: Doesn't everything just seem normal when the Yankees are on top of the standings?

Doesn't everything just seem normal when the Yankees are on top of the standings?

Maybe it's just me, but when I open the paper or click to the MLB standings on ESPN.com, things just seem "normal" when I see the Yankees as the first line.

When some other team (Boston/Tampa) is in 1st, I feel like I'm living in some sort of bizarro world.

Seeing the Yankees on top of the standings just feels right. Let's keep it going!

    Yes, yes it does.
Been a long time since I felt normal.

I'm still trying to adjust to it.

For the past few years, it has seemed like Boston was always top dog.

It means little until the Yanks win the next series at home against the Red Sox.

I haven't felt normal since that stupid blooper with the infield drawn in.

Since the "3-0 series lead" was lost, I've never felt comfortable as a Yankee fan.

Actually "normal" for the past few years has been us in 2nd or 3rd place chasing someone. This almost feels nostalgic which I am more than happy with.

Yeah agreed. "Normal" in the recent past has been the Yanks looking up at the Sox in first place.

I read an article in the Post stating that it "felt like 1998 in the air" again. I think that's a more accurate statement.

A welcome change though to be sure.

Yeah I'm enjoying it too. Because I know once we lose 2 in a row then Joe is an idiot, doesn't know how to make a lineup or manage a bullpen, and Cash doesn't know how to construct a team and we need some shot in the arm to get this team going again because they're all playing like a bunch of primadonnas lol

I just hope we can all stop obsessively watching Sox scores now. That drives me insane--I don't need to hear about how the Red Sox are doing in a Yankees game thread, thanks.

We'll still watch the scoreboard obsessively, but only because we all want to see Tampa overtake Boston in the standings.

Well, they didn't lose it that way, but the Buckner thing was a pretty bad way not to win

Perhaps, but I doubt the in-depth play-by-plays will continue.

When I started watching the Yankees normal was definitely not the Yankees in first place.

Because there weren't any Yankees; they were called the Highlanders!

I see what you did there.

Manager Clark Griffith was very lucky the internet didn't exist back then. His performance thread would have been brutal.

Speaking for myself, I watch the scoreboard obsessively as long as the lead is less than 5 games. Then I downgrade to merely watching the scoreboard repeatedly.

It's that time of year. Time to obsess all the way to a clincher!

That's what I was thinking, too. First place wasn't "normal," it was "pipe dream." Maybe they'd catch a glimpse of it in the first week of the season, but that was about it.

Really? So even if then have a 8 game lead by then, and then get swept, the Yankees are no longer in first? Is that how it works?

You know I was watching, Yankeography for that year, during the rain delay. And I think we are one Chien Ming Wang type pitcher away from having a comparable team.
