Re: 2009 NYYFans Fantasy Football League

Major problem here -- I just lost to a team that has 6 RBs on their roster. We need to figure out a way to keep people from missing this based on the Flex position, especially since the guy who pushed for it isn't even in the league anymore. Really, there shouldn't be a need to babysit rosters. It's really not that hard; I actually caught myself and didn't make a RB move because I knew I was maxed out.

I have an idea, but I need to test it first. In the meantime, enough warnings have been given out over the years. Any suggestions. I'm not saying drop the zero, but a point penalty SHOULD be put in place.

I'm with you. We can't have position player hoarding, but it IS easy to forget with the flex loophole and no warning. I myself just had to cut a WR because I was carrying too many without realizing, as Ox pointed out to me.

I really like the flex position, so I don't want to kill that, but maybe theres a way to allow only 1 flex spot on the roster, the one in the starting lineup. That would eliminate any bench players from being set as flex and causing the oversight...I'd like to try this - let me know if this is the potential soluaiton you had in mind, Ox.

Sort of -- I'm playing with it. I'll be able to provide a full report tomorrow if it works.
I suggest a 25-point penalty for this week's offenders. Any objections?

The way it's been changed around should prevent the hoarding problem.

The only minor issue that I can see is that you can bench your second RB or third WR if you have a free slot on your roster. Probably not going to be a problem since that's a detriment.

Just to clarify, as it has been asked, the roster limits are:

    Active Players: 14
    Reserve Players; 11
    QB: 4
    RB: 5
    WR: 6
    TE: 2
    K: 2
    ST: 2
    LB: 4
    DL: 4
    DB: 4

Re: 2009 NYYFans Fantasy Football League

OK -- problem is solved. Flex position is eliminated, so no more confusion caused by having a player in the RB/WR position that seems to have strangely flared up this season. Instead, everyone now has the option of starting 1 RB/3 WR or 2 RB/2 WR. A warning appears on your lineup page if you have too many or too few players starting. You will also get a warning telling you that you can't pick up a certain player if you try to add him because you've already reached that position's roster limit.

I can't believe it took me this long to figure out how to make that happen...

On another note, what does everyone say about the 25-point penalty for the offenders? I mean, the limits and penalty WERE mentioned several times at the beginning of the season. Using the zero penalty will completely screw with the early season results, so I suggest 25 for this past week and going forward for the rest of the season. We can bring back the zero at the beginning of next year when rosters won't be compromised...

I'm unsure of this. Retroactive penalties, although deserved, just seem bad to me. I'll still go with the majority on this, though. I can see more pros than cons.

That's why I removed the zero penalty. One way or another, it would have created a shltstorm with all the roster changes. Even though the outcomes from weeks past would not have been affected, everyone gets a free pass from even the smaller 25-point penalty. Unfortunately, the only one who really gets bit by it is me -- the guy who discovered the problem and fixed it!!!

Then again, that's how the problem really came to light and was finally resolved.
The important thing is, like I told the Commish, at least this won't happen again in the future...

You've had five years to think about what you were going to say, and THIS is the best you could come up with???
Seriously, though -- congrats on your first win over me... Now you know what it felt like to be a Red Sox fan in 2004.
So now you're 1-4 with me, which equals .200. Can we change your team name to the Mendoza Liners???

As far as you & NJ goes, classic trap game if you ask me...

    C. Palmer QB 233 PaYd, 5 PaTD (9,8,3,8,13)

    C. Benson RB 189 RuYd, RuTD (1)

4 touchdown passes of under 10 yards, and the running back with almost 200 yards only gets 1 TD. Game could have easily gone the other way.

    Good game Ox.

You too, Bags -- Palmer's stat line shocked me. Benson's been amazing this year; he's like a man on a mission.
And the way you felt after this one is the way I felt after the 4 I lost in a row.
You're still looking good at the half, though. Nice to see some different teams having good seasons...

Gotta say this has been one of the most interesting & quirky fantasy seasons I've ever seen.
I mean, we're at the halfway point, and the entire league is separated by only three games.
Should be fun to see how the second half will play out...

It is really weird seeing 8 teams with 4-4 records. It's even weirder to see my team with more than 2 wins.

Losing Owen Daniels is a borderline backbreaker for me. I got from roughly 15 points a week at TE to maybe 3-5 if I'm lucky. Miserable.

Since 8 teams are tied at 5-5 going ito the final 4 weeks, here are the tiebreaker rules in order to avoid any possible confusion. I got tired of hearing the "but I didn't know..." defense/argument earlier this season.

    Division Winner
    Head-to-Head Record/Division Record/Total Points Scored/Total Points Against

    Wild Card
    1. Head-to-Head Record/Total Points Scored/Total Points Against
    2. Only used if both teams are from the same division: H2H/Total Points Scored/Division Record/Total Points Against
    Pretty self-explanatory...

With a win this week the Bots=AutoDomination amazingly come very close to clinching a playoff spot and the division (Up 3 with 3 to play).

I have to admit, before the season started I was very much unimpressed with my team. Some key FA additions (Step up Fred Jackson for 4 weeks and Ricky Williams) have really led to a very good team with the best record and the most points (dude scary I know).

I think this year I learned my lesson, just let the BOT take care of it; champjonships will follow.

The lack of smack and general participation this year is concerning. League has gotten so lame. That being said, just because I'm 5 and 5 doesn't mean I'm not a threat. Watch your 6.

I think the real problem is that both George and Nat's teams aren't very good. Even the defending champ is pretty weak.

That being said; in comparison to the Auto Bot generated first place team all teams are pretty weak; but that's obviously neither here nor there.

Wow -- I think you're right. That is absolutely the problem. NJ's franchise might be going through a dry spell, but I didn't realize that the teams that rank #3 & #4 overall in total points scored are now considered "pretty weak". How about you win one title -- then you can talk to the guys who have won two.

Dude -- assuming you win this week, you've got as many wins this season as you've had in the past two. And your win totals the other two seasons were 3 and 4... it's about time you took advantage of your high draft position. And EVEN THEN, you can't take the credit for it. Your team was a gift from CBS.

You should've let the sleeping dog lie, son -- have fun sweating out a possible big game from Andre Johnson tonight. I know I'm not sweating Chris Johnson's possible big game, because The OD is pretty weak this year and was supposed to lose...

So, if I don't beat Bags by 50 some points this week, the playoff slots are set.

    Bots are in by default.
Bags' Groove ties me by division record and beats me on points.
Pete beats the Bar Room Brawlers on division record.
The Bar Room Brawlers beat me on head-to-head for the wild card.

At least I get a higher draft pick.

And here I thought no one cared and I would've penciled myself in the playoffs by default.

I'll post Championship, Pride and Draft Bracket scenarios shortly...

Re: 2009 NYYFans Fantasy Football League

Based on projecting results with who still has yet to play, here's the way I think it will shake out:

    Championship Bracket
    1. Bot=AutoDomination (12-2) -- Lombardi Division Champ
    2. Lindell's Wide Rights (8-6) -- Halas Division Champ (based on Division Record tiebreaker with Bag's Groove)
    3. The Indestructible Gridiron Smashers (8-6) -- Landry Division Champ
    4. Bag's Groove (8-6) -- Wild Card (based on Head-to-Head tiebreaker with The Bar Room Brawlers)

    Pride Bracket
    5. The Bar Room Brawlers (8-6)
    6. Rabid Raiders (7-7)
    7. Leathermen (7-7)
    8. JetsSBChampsin2005 (6-8)

    Draft Bracket
    9. OxDynasty (5-9)
    10. Fumbling Drunkards (5-9)
    11. Da Raidahs (5-9)
    12. The Roy Williams Domination Maneuver (5-9)

What can I say -- some years you're the pigeon, some years you're the statue.
I'll give final breakdowns and set the matchups on CBS when everything is finalized after tomorrow night's game.

I was hoping for two twisted ankles before the game. *sigh*

Ah well, I had a much better season than I thought I would - especially for an auto-draft team.

It is so weird that we both auto-drafted and yet met in the playoffs. What a crazy FFL season.

Re: 2009 NYYFans Fantasy Football League

Crazy doesn't even BEGIN to describe the 2009 NYYFFFL season. The top two teams in the power rankings were autodrafted. The #3, 4 & 5 teams didn't even make the playoffs. But the unexpected surprises are what makes this so fun.

Here are your Championship Week matchups:

    Championship Bracket
    NYYFFFL Bowl VII
    #1 Bot=AutoDomination vs #2 Lindell's Wide Rights
Another shot at the title for Lindell, this time against, far and away, 2009's best team. Can they finally break through and prevent what has seemed like a season-long coronation? Winner gets the title, the trophy and the #12 pick. Loser gets a pat on the back for a great season and the awful feeling of coming sooooooo close. Oh yeah, and the #11 pick.

#3 The Indestructible Gridiron Smashers vs #4 Bag's Groove
Hopefully Javy Vazquez has as successful a return to the Yankees next season as The IGS had to The League. #9 pick is at stake here.

    Pride Bracket
#5 The Bar Room Brawlers vs #7 Leathermen
The Commish tries to salvage his season by winning the #5 pick against the best team, record-wise, not to make the playoffs.

    #6 Rabid Raiders vs #8 JetsSBCChampsin2005
CHFF's favorite franchise takes on TheTeamThatRefusesToUpdateItsName. Winner gets the #7 pick.

    Draft Bracket
#9 OxDynasty vs. #11 Fumbling Drunkards
If someone told you that both two-time league champs were going to meet in the final week of the season, would you REALLY have thought it was for the #1 pick? Oh, how the mighty have fallen. Winner has a tough decision to make next year -- Adrian Peterson or Chris Johnson??

#10 Da Raidahs vs #12 The Roy Williams Domination Maneuver
Another perennial playoff contender tries to salvage its season with a top-3 pick. Meanwhile, like its namesake's career, Natalie's team has taken a dramatic turn over the last two years.

Well right now CBS has me with 150 pts to 134. That being said; somehow CJ is supposed to get 30 points against SD, no freaking way. Jackson has been hurt and toughing it out, but still had a pretty darn good game last week.

Both Warner & Brees are playing terrible teams, with Warner having a lot more to play for. At this point if NO is up by more than 14 at the half it wouldn't surpise me to see Brees sit since el-perfecto is history.

Marshall & Boldin are far away better than Smith & Cotchery, but since Nicks is injured, not much of choice.

    TE basically a wash.
    DEF basically a wash

I like Ricky over Britt for the Flex; but it's a slight advantage.

Should be an interesting matchup. Ruthianblast's prediction: BAD: 132 Lindell: 124

Re: 2009 NYYFans Fantasy Football League

Big scoring change from last week's games, and it creates a MAJOR shakeup. And, unfortunately, it also means bad news for Clive, quite possibly the hardest luck owner in The League.

Apparently, the NFL scoring nerds decided that Anquan Boldin's TD last week was a handoff, not a pass from Kurt Warner. The adjusted points mean that the IGS escapes with a 115.2-112.2 victory and will take on BAD in NYYFFFL Bowl VII.

A crazy fantasy season just got even crazier. Sorry, dude -- Just goes to show you how one play really can make a difference...
