As for the NBA, this series is as good as done if the refs continue to allow Howard to literally knock guys out with his elbows while not allowing the Celtics to defend him. They've made him into a monster. If the refs don't allow him to physically manhandle any and everyone, this doesn't get past Game 6.

I saw no issue at all with the elbow that knocked Davis out.

To be fair, the Celtics usually get away with a lot of physical stuff also.

Its not like they are whiter than white in the paint. If we both manage to advance, you best believe your guys will try to smack Gasol around.

I understand the griping from C's fans because it sucks when it happens to you.

At the same time, Pierce is one of the craftiest dirty players in the league (a la Ginobli), and Garnett is as chippy as they come.

All the talk about Wallace "getting in Howard's head" was centered around him physically messing with him - the mental edge people were talking about was born of him at times crossing the line physically (sometimes getting fouls called on him, sometimes not).

It doesn't make any of it right, but trying to look at this from an objective viewpoint I don't really feel like the Celtics are somehow being jobbed here - it's the game they play, too, and it just so happens they were on the wrong end of it last night.

Howard isnt dirty. Those elbows are unintentional. Its reminds of stuff people said about Shaq thru most of his career. Yet Howard (and Shaq) basically get molested in the paint everytime they touch the ball.

    I think that's a fair assessment.

The most disheartening thing is that now that Howard has upped his game physically, the C's seem to be shying away. Garnett looks totally drained and has been awful most of the series.

We need Pierce and Rondo to step up big time tomorrow night. If Davis is out (and I assume he will be) we not only need Wallace to contribute in a big way (and that includes staying out of any drama and avoiding T's)

So Perkins had one of his Ts taken back and will play in Friday's game.

Good to see for C's fans, and you better believe Friday is going to be a WAR.

The NBA must be getting nervous.

This should be a great series the rest of the way, no matter how long it goes.

On another note, the news about LeBron, Wade, Johnson, and Bosh meeting to discuss FA is fascinating. I have this mental image of them and their advisers meeting in some backroom carving up the future of the NBA. Obviously, it won't be anything that dramatic. I defintely think they're trying to get a package deal somewhere.

Guess that means no Perk in Game 7. Cause you know he can't go a game without a T.

The Magic need to do whatever they can to get him a T in Game 6, especially if it looks like they're going to force a Game 7. With Davis out, and Sheed hurting, the Celtics will have massive issues with Howard if Perkins is suspended.

    Re: 2009-2010 NBA Thread

I thought LA was gonna run away w/this game up 16....but nice job by the Suns to get it back to 8 at the half.

They need something from their bench if they are going to win this game. Its why they won Games 3-4. Btw please stop fouling Derek Fisher when he "drives" to the basket. The guy is looking to draw a foul...not to actually finish a play. K thnx.

Shocker that Bennett Salvatore and Bob Delaney are reffing this game and shocker that the Lakers have a ton of FTs. I'm utterly shocked.

what? 3 whole free throw attempts more...Shame on the refs! 13 fouls each and all of our starters with at least 2 fouls.

If you don't think a tightly called game favors the Lakers, then uhh, I don't know what to tell you. This is the Stern MO, send out his jobbers to a crucial Game 5 to make sure his teams makes it to the Finals.

Yeah I tend to agree. If the Suns are going to beat them they're going to have to beat all 13 Lakers including the 1 in black and white.

  19. #1119

    Re: 2009-2010 NBA Thread

So what you are saying is that a game called tightly for both teams is wrong because it helps the Lakers?

So you dont want a game that is called fairly for both squads? Cool. Lets hope the refs root for PHX in the 2nd half to make sure that its fair and all.

Phoenix has the get the ball out of Kobe's hands in the final 2:40 of this game....and make Ron Artest beat them from the perimeter. Dude is 1-6 w/2 points tonight...0-2 from 3-pt range.

Dont leave Fisher open though....he's been money tonight.

It doesnt matter now. This was their chance to steal a game in LA. Even if they do get this to Game 7 (which I dont think they will)....they are def not winning.

I'd be shocked if they win the series of course, but I feel like there's at least a slim chance now. And since Bynum looks worse and worse, I think the Celtics or Magic have a chance.

No they deserved to get 3 points on that possession because they got a bunch of wide open looks. If LA defended the play well and the Suns hit some miracle 3....I'd admit it but thats not what happened. Kobe airballs a 3 (how often does this happen? once a season?) and Artest won the lottery and happened to be in the right spot at the right time. 100% luck.

Sadly, he will probably end up joining the ranks of Ewing/Malone/Stockton/Barkley as great players that dont have a ring when they retire. He deserves one so badly too. I feel awful for him right now.

Well Artest had 2 wide open looks on the other end...bad shots mind you but wide open looks.

Does he deserve the luck then? And if you watch Artest, he didnt quit on that play, he took the ball away from Rich who actually had position.

No...when you take awful shots like that you dont deserve anything. Phil Jackson should have strangled him after that 3 point attempt.

When you run the play correctly, and get 3 straight wide open looks on the same possession....one of them should go down. There was nothing lucky about how the Suns ran that possession.

The hatred is what it is....its never gonna change. In fact, it will only get more intense when they pull wins like this out of their ass.

I think this game might have just tilted me towards the Boston side for the Finals if it is Celtics-Lakers. Sigh.

    Oh come on.

Sure, the Phoenix Suns play perfect defense on that last play and still got beat.

BUT that wasn't the only thing that cost Steve Nash and the Suns the game: making free throws was another thing.

Both the Lakers and Suns made 20 FTs, but the Suns had six more attempts from the charity stripe than the Lakers 29-23. Those were six crucial misses.

Nash, normally a pretty good foul shooter, made 3 for 5.

Steve Nash's jumpers were lethal inside those two minutes.

However, his free throw shooting cost him tonight.

Am I crazy or did Kobe have a foot out of bounds?
