LeBron needs to get out of Cleveland.
Although I'd love to have him on the Knicks, I'd say his best bets would be the Clippers, Bulls or Nets (all major media markets with a few decent young players).
He's done enough traveling if you ask me. Did it again last night on that final play where he lost it out of bounds.Originally Posted by YanksFan1992

Really? And when you chose 23 in 2003 you didn't know who this Jordan guy was? Really?Saying he is willing to initiate the movement, LeBron James would like to see any NBA player who wears No. 23 to choose another number as homage to Michael Jordan.
I agree. I have no idea who this guy is. Thank you LeBron for bringing this to the front. You are the King!"I just think what Michael Jordan has done for the game has to be recognized some way soon," James said. "There would be no LeBron James, no Kobe Bryant, no Dwyane Wade if there wasn't Michael Jordan first.
Now, if I'm not going to wear No. 23, then nobody else should be able to wear it. Now, if I'm not going to wear No. 23, then nobody else should be able to wear it. Now, if I'm not going to wear No. 23, then nobody else should be able to wear it. Now, if I'm not going to wear No. 23, then nobody else should be able to wear it."I feel like no NBA player should wear 23. I'm starting a petition, and I've got to get everyone in the NBA to sign it. Now, if I'm not going to wear No. 23, then nobody else should be able to wear it."
Are you kidding me?

DWade's career ending dunk of Varejao last night was ridiculous. I don't remember the last time I jumped off my couch after a play. If it wasn't for the backboard support, Varejao's body may still be sliding across the floor

How about we retire Bill Russell's number? Or the freaking Logo of the NBA's ( Jerry West ) number? Then move to Kareem and Wilt...then on to the 2 guys who saved the league, Magic and Bird?

Add to it: not shaking hands with Orlando after losing. Following in Isiah's footsteps is never a good thing. And then his explanation:Back up the BS truck. It’s hard for me to congratulate somebody after you just lose to them. I’m a winner. It’s not being a poor sport or anything like that. If somebody beats you up, you’re not going to congratulate them. That doesn’t make sense to me. I’m a competitor. That’s what I do. It doesn’t make sense for me to go over and shake somebody’s hand.
The way his team acted last year (LeBron doing the ................ing air guitar?), the team poses, the traveling/the crab dribble (wtf?). It really is just a whole bunch of crap.
It's just too much.

As for the shaking hands thing....overrated. I distinctly remember past playoff series where Shaq and Kobe (specifically I think of the 1999 and 2003 series losses to the Spurs) didnt shake anyone on the Spurs hands---both just walked off the floor. Jordan didnt shake anyone on the Magic's hands after losing in 1995. Of course, the Pistons did it in 1991. There have been several big name players that have done this. I just dont get why its all of a sudden a big deal when LBJ does it.Originally Posted by S2
As for the other stuff (the poses, the air guitar etc) again I dont have an issue. I think sometimes we all take ourselves too seriously w/sports. Although is this really worse then say....Garnett spewing 7374383434374487 curses in a row at the top of his lungs after a big play in a game? I find that to be much more obnoxious...but thats me.
As for traveling---well he certainly isnt the first superstar to get away with calls. Jordan certainly did. Hell his last shot against Utah was a clear offensive foul...yet you never hear anyone bring this up. I loved Ewing...but his "drop step" move was a clear travel and he did it for 15 years. Wade gets away with an extra step alot as well.

So I was having this debate tonight w/a few friends...and I wanna bring it to this board cuz I am curious to what more people think.
Is Dennis Rodman a HOF'er? Should he be in the HOF?
I definetly am on the "yes" side of the fence. IMO its a no-brainer. He is simply one of the best rebounders and best defensive players to ever play the game. I believe he won seven or eight rebounding titles and finished with a career average of 13.1--and between 1991-98 he averaged no less then 15.2 in any season. He was NBA Defensive Player of the Year twice and was All-Defense First Team eight times. He was such a athletic freak, that he could guard a point guard as well as a power forward. IMO, along with Pippen he is the best 1 on 1 defensive player I have seen in my years watching the NBA. Jordan has been quoted as saying that Rodman and Gary Payton were the two guys that gave him the most trouble guarding him. Nobody guarded Bird the way he did. He guarded Magic. He went up against centers like Hakeem, Ewing, Zo, Shaq. Later in his career, he did an amazing job against Malone in the 97 and 98 Finals. Five championship rings. Probably should have won the Finals MVP in 1996--he had a Finals record 11 offensive rebounds in TWO games in that series, completely shutdown and got in the head of Shawn Kemp.....he was really the one that swung that series in Chicago's favor.
The only strike against him is the lack of offensive numbers. And some people will bring up the off-court stuff, but to me that doesnt matter. He was one of those rare guys that didnt need to score points to have help his team and have a huge affect on the outcome of a game.
I think its a shame most people remember him for non-basketball reasons....although I guess some of that is his fault. I didnt like his off-court antics, but I loved watching him play--his rebounding, toughness, one on one defense, tenacity, diving on the floor for loose balls, getting into the head of opponents...he was a more talented and more athletic Charles Oakley. Still most people dont realize how great a player he was. I hope he gets his day in Springfield sooner then later.
Thoughts?

Rodman had some ridiculous rebounding numbers. I was amazed to find out later that he was only 6-6 or 6-7. That makes the numbers that much more impressive. 4th all time in offensive rebounds, 10th in total rebounds per game.
His last season, 1999-2000, at the age of 38, he collected 14.3 per game.
Like you said he was a part of 5 championship teams, 2 of the best teams of all time in the 96 and 97 Bulls. Basketball has always been a big man's game and for him to dominate one aspect like that as a smaller guy is amazing.
I think he should be in.

Dennis Rodman is an interesting case. He was one of the best rebounders, but his offense was really really weak. I will put Dikembe Mutombo in but I'm not sure I will put Rodman in.
He definetly was weak offensively....but to me he was great defensively and a great rebounder. There are guys in the HOF who only did one thing great.
Reggie Miller will get in and he was simply a great shooter and scorer....but did little else....wasnt a good defender, not a great ballhandler, didnt make his teammates better and didnt help his team in terms of rebounding/assists...he really couldnt even create his own shot.

Agreed. And it isnt only the rebounding....it was his defensive ability too. The guy was 6-7 yet he could guard a 2 guard like Jordan, a small forward like Bird, a power forward like Malone or Barkley, and centers like Ewing and Shaq. I still remember him doing a great job slowing down Shaq in the 96 playoffs. I mean how many guys in NBA history can you say could guard a monster like Shaq, but also guard someone like Jordan? Rodman is one of a kind.Originally Posted by S2

Yes, he is one of the best defensive players of all time. People focus on his personality but the facts remain that he was a big part of 2 very very very structured and dominant teams.

Dennis Rodman quotes:
http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/au...is_rodman.html
I think he's a no-brainer for the HOF. To jump on what everyone else said.......ridiculous rebounder and game changing defender. The ability to get under one's skin and turn a game around. I'm sure there are many, many players with just as crazy off the court antics, the only difference is Rodman didn't care if it was publicized or not.Originally Posted by dabomb2045

"I see Ben, I'm on my guard now. I'm always in the mood to fight him. … I'll get suspended 10 games, 15 games (because) I'll just fight him right there. It won't go into the stands."

Slow, no offensive skills to speak of, seemed to be bit by the injury bug all the time(for a kid, that's just a sign of things to come).. just nothing about him that's exciting. Solid role player? Sure... number 1 pick over a guy like Durant.. come on. Wasn't it obvious to everyone except the Blazers that it was a huge mistake from the get go?
Oden if healthy is the 2nd coming of Mutombo....... A possible outstanding defensive player but he has to be healthy.

Yes, I know TMAC has the mental/lazy/injury issues, but the magic didn't lose b/c of anything TMAC did or didn't do.. they lost b/c their second best player Grant Hill was hurt the whole time and he had to work with Mike effing Miller as second banana.Originally Posted by b_joseph
