Thread: Gobstoppers

  1. #1

    Gobstoppers

I just bought a box for the first time in a while tonight. They are significantly smaller and appear to have many less layers than I remember as a kid. I think they may have seemed bigger back in the day as I was smaller, but I also do not doubt the cheapening of the candy.

Upon further inspection, it appears there are are 2 layers before the core for some, while others have only a single layer.

Props Jason. I haven't had or thought about these since 5th grade.

Now I shall have to obtain a box.

Admittedly it's a matter of preference, but I preferred Jawbusters to Gobstoppers. Besides, it takes 14 to 19 days to make one Jawbuster: http://www.ferrarapan.com/html/jb_fun.html

Anything made with that much effort and care has gotta be good.

Ever since Charlie took over the factory the candy sucks. He's always cutting corners to try to save a buck. Willie must be turning over in his grave at the way things are being run. Last week he laid off a third of the Oompa Loompas. And yes, as you have already guessed, those dudes are not eligble for unemployment.

Yeah they are little tiny things now in a box or something. Trés disappointing. I used to get them two in little bag. I remember really big ones too...

Do you remember Chocolite bars John? The ones with the "air" in them?

I also really liked the Reggie bar -- that thing was huge but really good.

One other old candy I really loved was B-B-Bats. Yum! some stores still sell them like Cracker Barrel but they don't have the vanilla ones anymore and I loved those.

    I REMEMBER CHOCOLITE, JEANNE!!

Also...do you remember Chunky bars? They had raisins or something and were square?

I also remember Reggie Bars and the commercial...I don't remember watching actual live games where people were doing the "REG-GIE! REG-GIE!" But I remember the commercials for the candy bar.

B-B-Bats...I was not a big fan but would consume them when I got them @ Halloween. Oink.

I guess the gobstoppers are no longer neverending.

I liked Pixie Sticks - nothing like some fruit-flavored sugar. And the wax soda bottles - they had liquid in them.

    Open wide for Chunky...

Is anyone else old enough to remember Bonomo Turkish Taffy?

Candy bars were not only bigger, they were a nickel. Individual pieces of Bazooka and little Tootsie Rolls were a penny; bigger logs of both of them were also a nickel. I also had to walk sixteen miles through the snow each way to get to school and back, and it was uphill both ways.

Yeah, yeah, I'm old. Get off my lawn, all of you.
