Dino, both you and scott hit the nail right on the head with Gary.

I understand where gary comes from, but the sad reality is that Steiner is screwing your brains out for $2000. I did not buy the seats that my son and I have sat in, the same seats that my father and I have sat in and my wife, and my best friends and on and on it goes. Gary, we all have to draw the line somewhere.

As for the white collar crack, many of us started out from blue collar parents and went on to white collar futures. I grew up very poor and was on a track similar to your own when I was injured in the academy and went on to law school after the Department screwed me salary wise while I was out.

I wish you all the best and totally respect the job you do, however, you need to get over this and not make yourself crazy. This will only matter to the little guy (I have young kids myself) if you make it matter to him. the new stadium is for you and he to share.

My life would be 100 percent better if my biggest complaint in life was the same as Gary's.

Your letter might have been received a little better if you didn't add the FDNY stuff. That has zero to do with what happened.

I'm still a little confused by the 10 year wait list. I don't ever remember a wait list for Yankees season (partial and full) tickets.

Re: An open Letter about the "Person" who bought my Actual seats out from under me.

I'm not exactly sure I'm following why the original poster is so upset but I have to say that last week I met a high-level executive from a team in another sport who surely makes a lot more money than many people on this forum. However, even though this person hasn't lived in the New York area for a number of years he's such a diehard fan of the Yankees that he's continued to get season tickets every year so he can still attend some games. So assuming that people with money or who work for corporations aren't really fans is a bad assumption to make.

    Dear Gary-

I have "known" you since just after 9/11, when I inadvertently captured you on my video camera, being honored on the field at Yankee Stadium for your heroism. If I recall, there were many articles written about you at the time... referencing how you carried a woman out of a building during the WTC attacks, and about how you were lucky to be alive after being thrown under your rescue vehicle, as it was being buried in ash and debris. Your legs were badly injured, but you made it out. You witnessed your friends and co-workers suffer a worse fate. I remember how difficult it seemed for you to walk out onto the field and stand as 55,000 fans wildly applauded you, and your fellow heroes.

I have seen your name in numerous articles through the years since, as you contunue to receive many awards and accolades for saving so many people. If I'm not mistaken, you're the guy with "Operation Santa" delivering holiday gifts to many needy children.

I don't believe you were "entitled" to those physical seats from the old stadium, but I would like to have seen you be able to own them. My son and I visited with you and your son a few times at those very seats, and I do consider them to be yours. The regular fans around those seats all know who you are... a great guy and a true hero.

Please don't take the character assassination in this thread too seriously. Some of these folks are brand-new members who know nothing about you. Others feel it's fair-game to attack someone for their thoughts or feelings.

I apologize for your treatment here.

So here it goes. For 17 years i sat in Sec 605 , Seats 5 & 6. My son grew up in those seats. I met my second family in that section and grew to love them as dear friends. I watched so many memorable times at The Stadium and i never felt more proud when i hobbled into those seats the first sunday game after Sept 11th and the entire section got up and applauded when they say me and cheered that fact that i was alive and had survived
The last game of the season Mr. Dixon came over to "meet the person who sat in "his" weekday seats . We spoke about the possibility of the purchase of these seats and came to an aggrement. Since he owned a monday to friday plan in another section as well as my seats on fridays he "promised" he would leave the purchase of my sunday seats to me. Being a blue collared FDNY member i was happy as i could not enter into a bidding war with him. He had originally spoke of buying all his seats ( as he is obviously not a blue collared worker who risks his life everyday) but my son and i asked him very kindly to please allow us the ability to purchase the sunday seats and how much they meant to us.
Well today i get a call from the Yankee/Steiner rep who apologized so many times as he informed me that my seats were bought by this man. ( The steiner rep has many family in the fire dept amd i will keep his name private)
I asked if this man had bought his regular half season seats as well and i was told no. So why did he go out of his way to buy the seats i so much wanted and had thought had a gentlemans aggreement on?
That question i have no answer too. Its bad enough that i was re-located to the nosebleed seats in Sec 413 because so many of his kind pushed the little man out of any good seats unless i wanted to second mortage my home and not send my son to college to afford where i used to sit
If Mr. Dixon even reads this forum, i am sure he does not as this is a place for the common fan and not the "rich and famous"
But..if indeed you do come across this post maybe you would consider doing the right thing and buying the seats you sat in 4/5's of the time and leave me and my son the seats we were able to afford all these years and that "gentlemen" agreed on their respective purchase on the last day in the Old Stadium, the House that Ruth Built.
Gary a lot of us have a connection with our fathers and baseball like you had with your Dad and like your son has with you. I also have great admiration for the sacrifices made by firemen and police. I couldn't do either of those jobs with the level of commitment you and others like you have. But you need to understand that there are a lot of people out there who are hurting financially, have lost their jobs, homes and families. I don't know what type of reaction you were expecting by posting this, but you are not going to get an overwhelmingly positive response when you try to make a case for having to sit in blue collar nosebleed seats at NYS while some unfairly advantaged less deserving white collar guy paid the freight for the better seats. Both of my parents are long gone as well as my brother. I don't have, nor do I need seats to remember them by. What I have are great memories that I still carry to this day. Be thankful that you still have time with your son to create new memories. Does it really matter that much where you sit?

Maybe Mr. Dixon was the Delta Force agent who captured Saddam Hussein from his bunker in Iraq and felt he was entitled to the seats more than a firefighter.

When Mr. Dixon came back to his section after serving in Iraq everyone in he section stood up and saluted him and starting singing God Bless America because he had returned.

Five women named their first born Dixon to pay homage to the family name because his family has had Sunday plan since 1953 after waiting 30 years on the waiting list.

I believe George Steinbrenner personally presented the coveted seats to him because he saved up enough money to be considered upper class and everyone knows that anyone who makes over 30K is a terrible fan.

Most of the time going online to vent is usually not a good idea. I learned that the hard way lol. Some people can be very kind... some people can be understanding of an situation.. but then some people can just tear you apart for feeling the way you feel. Oh well.

Re: An open Letter about the "Person" who bought my Actual seats out from under me.

I just want to clarify some of the inaccuracies in Gary's letter. The seats he is referring to were the seats Tom Dixon had in his 46-game B Plan. I know that for a fact because I sat in front of him for seven years.

On the last day of the season, Tom did not go to those seats to meet the person he shared them with. He went there with me and two other people because they let us in to the Stadium early and we had four hours to kill. We were all sitting in different sections that day and decided to hang out together before the game in our usual seats until the people came. That is how he met Gary by chance.

A representative from Steiner contacted Tom about buying his B Plan seats, and he accepted. Tom is not rich, and the only thing he is famous for is leading the Jorge chant in our section.

I was heavily on Tom's side in this argument, but this gives me great pause. The Jorge chant has become the single most irritating and obnoxious chant at the stadium. It was fun in 2001, but now it's become ridiculous where as soon as he's in the on-deck circle some attention starved loser in every other row tries to be the ringleader of the chant.

Gary, I hope you feel somewhat better now that you've vented. I'm sure you didn't actually get the response you were hoping for but that's the chance you take. Live and learn.

And sorry, but it sounds like they were his ACTUAL seats too ... so I'm not sure how you get to claim them over him. JMHO.

I just got off the phone with a high level exec at YES. He told me I couldn't mention his name, so you'll just have to trust me.

After the failure of YES's Ultimate Road Trip and the enormous success of NYYFANS.COM, they have started a new reality show, where folks sit around on a message board all day and argue. Every day someone gets fired from their job for lack of production. The last person to hold onto their job wins a view obstructed seat season ticket plan to Fenway Park for all non-Yankee games.

I'm excited to see it air sometime this Fall.

I like how Gary's thread title has "person" in quotations- as if anyone who would dare steal his seats could not possibly be human.

I don't believe that's the intention. I think the "person" reference is simply meant to distinguish a non-firefighter.
