This not look good...

why is cash getting the start? where is cisco?
Curious to see the reasoning behind Cano getting the day off and not Swish...
Anonymous internet thread posters say the darndest things.

Wow. I would have bet the farm Swish would have had the day off. I also expected Arod to DH and melky and Gardner to both play.

We will win today.
I think Swisher should've gotten the day off before Cano, but both are struggling right now. I wonder why Cash is starting.
I was wondering the same thingOriginally Posted by dadrumma
I knew Girardi was going to do this with Cervelli.
Calmer than you are.
wow...play Cervelli, play Cano, bench Swisher.
How do you know Cano doesn't need a day of? Swisher will get one in the next couple of daysOriginally Posted by Kathordine
let's win this series...
Chris Nolan did it again. Inception is the best movie of the year so far.
Total garbage lineup by Girardi......regardless of the outcome today. No, Cano doesn't need a rest at game 36. Cervelli is better than Cash and should be starting. Swisher needs to sit.
Still lefties crush Slowey, so I am optimistic.
Seriously, howdo you know Cano doesn't need a day off? Oh yeah, you don'tOriginally Posted by Shanghai Bob
It really cracks me up that people are clamoring for Gardner over Swisher. And Cervelli has filled in admirably since Molina went down but let's face it, he's not the second coming of Johnny Bench. If we're really that dependent on his 61 OPS+ then we're in big trouble.
Never left the Betances bandwagon.
I haven't missed a day at work for six months. Ripken played 2632 games in a row. Girardi said he isn't injured. Oh, that's right I do.Originally Posted by hatfieldms

Nobody is saying to bench Swisher permanently in favor of Gardner. Everyone knows Cervelli and Cash are 3rd and 4th string starters.Originally Posted by NelsonMuntz
BUT that is not the point. The manager needs to show logic and consistency in his lineups. Girardi is not showing either.
I'm not sure that "consistency" in a lineup really amounts to a hill of beans at the end of the day, but even if we accept the premise that it matters, how would benching the starting RF'er in favor of the 4th/5th outfielder show "logic and consistency"?Originally Posted by Shanghai Bob

Really? You have worked 7 days a week for the past six months? I doubt that. And since Ripken did it I guess everyone else should. With your logic shouldn't everybody be playing everyday? Even swisher?Originally Posted by Shanghai Bob
apparently girardi isn't allowed to keep his starters fresh with some days off here and there.
CANO hasn't had a day off ALL YEAR people.
And cervelli is a catcher, the most physically demanding position in baseball. he's going to need some days too...
I don't think he's had a day off all year. And the Yanks are in the middle of there 45 games in 47 days stretch aren't they?Originally Posted by justinvarnes

what, sit a 23 year old AA catcher a day game after a night game? Guess what Russel Martin has the day off toady, may the Dodgers should fire Torre.Originally Posted by JavyVazquezIsSick

ya know, i never thought of this this way... Baseball players don't really have weekends.Originally Posted by hatfieldms

Consistency in the lineup means a whole lot. For much of this decade under Torre we had the most productive lineup in the Majors. And barring injuries it stayed the same most of the time. Under Girardi it pretty never stays the same regardless of injuries.Originally Posted by NelsonMuntz
I realize you REALLY like Swisher, but looking at him May numbers (.460 OPS, 1 hit in the last five games), do you not believe he needs just a day off? Again, nobody is saying he should cede the RF job to Gardner.
But they do get a pretty long vacation from sometime in October to about mid-February. All in all, I'd give up my Spring/Summer weekends for that.Originally Posted by delv

Sure Swisher could use a day off. Probably get one tomorrow or the next day.Originally Posted by Shanghai Bob

catchers can't play everyday. you make it sound like Cevelli had the offensive ability of a Jorge Posada... He doesn't, it's not as big of a deal as some people are making it out to be. The don't have many days off coming up, so it makes sense to rest guys so they can play over the long stretch.Originally Posted by Shanghai Bob

Forgot yesterday was a day game. Anyway Cervelli & Cash are the Yanks #3, #4 catchers, I expect them to splitting time 60/40 until one of Po/Mo returns.Originally Posted by Shanghai Bob

I just realized why Cano got the day off today. He's batting exactly .300. Joe doesn't want him to go below that for psychological reasons. IMO, completely justified. great decision.
"First batter up well here's the pitch: it's a curve. Second batter up because the first got served"
I think Girardi is taking the Spring Training approach with these guys and givign them each a chance to battle for the 3rd string spot (the guy who stays up here when Jorge comes back but before Molina comes back). Makes sense to me. Split there appearances until one "wins" the spot.
They could deal Molina if they know they have a solid backup.
While it may seem obvious that Cervelli is that, it is an extremely SSS compared to his minor league #'s. Cash isn't much better #'s-wise, of course, but still. It's not like this approach is insane or even obtuse.

Game is on TBS today.

I see they are grooming Pena to play 3rd and now 2nd.
This means he is the Yankees UI for the foreseeable future.
Making him more valuable to the team is a good move.
Does this spell the end of Commander Cody?
So instead of trying to explain your logic you just put me on ignore? That sounds about rightOriginally Posted by Shanghai Bob
My 2 cents, Girardi is an ape. Yes, I think Cervelli and Cano should be in the lineup, but this is just one of the millions of the reason that Joe sucks. The guys a f-cking dumbass, he brought our worst RP in in a one run game yesterday. I've seriously completely given up on him. I now always expect him to make the dumb decision, and he never lets me down.
