Would the Yankees Benefit from New Ownership?

Just thought this might merit discussion.....

George is a figure head. Hal, frankly seems disinterested. Seems like he is ultimately the "owner" right now.

Re: Would the Yankees Benefit from New Ownership?

The owner signs the checks, which Hal has still been willing to do. Right now it's on the GM and the manager. I just don't know how much longer you can have Edwar Ramirez in your bullpen. It's too early to call for people's heads, but the fact that the organization hasn't developed any position players besides Cano (and Melky, if you want to throw him in) in the past decade concerns me. Austin Jackson would be a big boost, but he has to prove that he can be called up and stick there first. And Jesus Montero isn't near ready yet, if he can even stick as a big league catcher in the first place.

Yeah. $400M + on three free agents - He could not be less interested....

Maybe the Dolan's are in the market?

Re: Would the Yankees Benefit from New Ownership?

Nope. Ownership isn't the problem. Sure they're demands are high, but they pay the money in hopes of getting the desired result.

Plus changes there aren't coming anytime soon, so no point in discussing that.

If we were to somehow change owners, there's a 95% chance we would see the yankee payroll drop TREMENDOUSLY. fans would not be happy.

The last time the Yankees were under different ownership there was such apathy about winning that nobody, including fans who gave a damn. At least the new Steinbrenners are showing a commitment to winning through their investment, no matter how stupidly it is spent at times.

Re: Would the Yankees Benefit from New Ownership?

Considering the current owners gave us the three best free agents this offseason, I couldn't imagine new owners doing anything better. As long as they do not gut the farm system I have no problem with the current ownership.

The vast majority of people out there who could afford the Yankees right now will immediately turn the Yankees into a profit center.

The Yankees don't have a problem at the ownership level unless they are interfering in baseball options at a point that becomes limiting. Besides giving Arod a contract I'm not sure about that being the case.

The stadium experience could become a little more middle class friendly... but won't happen.

I think it will. Legends seats are going below face value in the secondary market. In many cases far below face value, as in "Same day I'll take any amount greater than zero since I can't go today" below face value.

It's pretty gross. I bought my season ticket thinking I could recoup a chunk of the cost, it's not working out at all.

    No way in hell.

Irrational fans keep franchises going in tough times.

Just look at Baltimore... those Orioles fans couldn't possibly expect the team to contend with their FO and owners.

Yeah, but it's like when players aren't performing and you fire the manager because you can't fire all the players.....

The yankees would benefit if the fired Lonn Trost & Randy Levine and put actual baseball people in charge of this team.

Re: Would the Yankees Benefit from New Ownership?

The present owners have certainly show a commitment to spending money on players. Beyond that though, I have to wonder about their overall commitment to winning and organizational excellence.

Painful as this is to say, the Red Sox are the model franchise in baseball right now. The Yankee ownership needs to not only show a willingness to spend huge amounts of money on the FA market, I also expect them to revamp the farm system and talent evaluation models being used by the FO.

Because, frankly, the Red Sox FO has owned the Yankee FO for quite some time now, particularly in the areas of scouting and talent evaluation, at both the minor and major league levels.

We pretty much have the best owners in baseball. They are willing to spend whatever they need to to have a winning team. Sure it looks like the Red Sox have better management and make great decisions but I think a lot of it has been luck. Just think they could have had Pavano and they wanted him but we got him. They got real lucky with Jason Bay in the Manny trade. They have made some great moves but they have gotten real lucky many times. Many of our trades have only ended up mediocre due to bad luck.

Exactly. It's hard to imagine that another individual or family will be the next buyer for the team, given the likely price. And when we have corporate ownership again, it's very likely that spending will be reduced.

How many times do things have to go their way before maybe we have to admit its more than luck, at least sometimes?

The RS have built a better ballclub for tens of millions of dollars less than the Yankees have, and for several years running now. It can't all be luck.

Re: Would the Yankees Benefit from New Ownership?

I think this team would better off. Any ownership that would allow someone like Lonn Trost who has no relevant experience take charge of building their stadium is totally incompetent.

Would they benefit from firing Levine and Trost? Definitely.

Would they benefit from the Steinbrenners selling? I seriously doubt it. They're willing to sink money into the team, and they're letting the baseball people handle most of the baseball operations. That's a recipe for success.

If you are saying that the Sox FO is the model franchise in baseball, I agree with you as sad and painful as that is to type. However, when speaking strictly about ownership, there is no better owner in baseball than the Steinbrenner clan. Say what you will about George, but he always wants to win first. Hal and Hank seem to be like-minded in that view. I hope and pray they keep the team in that family for a long long time.

Re: Would the Yankees Benefit from New Ownership?

I think the ownership is fine. I mean they go out and constantly get us the best players available, and do nothing but try and put the best product in the field.

I think we could benefit from a change in the GM though. Cashman is an idiot.

Agree with those who want Trost and Levine fired. Replace these idiots and I never want to hear from anyone who fills these two spots. They're not necessary to me as the fan. They come off as disconnected greedy suits who know nothing about the Yankee brand and/or anything about the game. The requirements to do their jobs may not even require a ton of baseball knowledge as much as business sense but keep them out of the public eye. Keep it at Cashman and Hal when it comes to being the voice of the franchise....fire Trost and Levine, stick the replacements in an office and keep them there.
