12-year-old girl throws perfect game against boys

BAYONNE, N.J. (AP) -- On the pitcher's mound, a 12-year-old girl from New Jersey is perfect.

Mackenzie Brown is the first girl in Bayonne Little League history to throw a perfect game. She retired all 18 boys she faced on Tuesday.

There are no official records of how many perfect games are thrown per season. Little League Baseball in Williamsport, Pa., estimates only 50 to 60 occur each year. No one knows how many have been thrown by girls.

Brown says she knew she had something special going in the fourth inning and just tried not to mess up.

She'll get to throw out the first pitch at Citi Field on Saturday when the New York Mets host the Washington Nationals.

My favorite part is the fact that you could tell that girl knew what she was doing/did. Lots of kids that age wouldn't have the first damn clue that a perfect game was something that is awesome.

Well, guess you had a different team than I did.

It was about that age that you started filtering out, however. At about age 13 or 14, I started playing AAU ball and the like... and most of the guys who played Little League started staying in it on their own instead of at the behest of their parents.

If she's playing baseball, I think she has some clue. So yes, I very much disagree with that and am rather disappointed that you said it. I only played softball (and sucked at it), not baseball, but even I knew WTF a perfect game was as a young child.

Same here. I remember one time this girl hit the ball & ran to 3rd base while another caught the ball & threw it to the Center Fielder on a different occasion.

I've also seen some boys make real bonehead plays as well.
