I was at the Rangers/Blue Jays game today and I was sitting 1st row and picked up a Hank Blalock foul ball in the first inning.
Has anyone else ever caught a ball during the game? BP doesn't count. I've caught tons during BP.

No but in between innings at a Yankee/Oriole game when I was younger, Brady Anderson tossed me the first ball I ever got at a game.
I caught one at a Mariners-Yankees game at Safeco a few years ago.
On an unrelated note, I remember that at a Rangers-M's game a few years ago, a Mariners employee caught four consecutive batting pracitce balls, including one that bounced in the upper deck and fell all the way down to him. It was almost incomprehensible.
No. So far as I can remember, the only time I've gotten a ball from a game was at an Iowa Cubs (AAA) game. I got there early as a kid about 10-12 years ago, and one of the players flipped me the ball after warming up. On a somewhat related note... Miguel Cairo was my favorite player with the I-Cubs.I always found it ironic he ended up with the Yanks.

I got my finger tips on one in Kansas City one time, but didn't jump into the ensuing scrum in an attempt to secure it.

Yep, caught one from Jose Canseco.

At a Yankees Brewers Twi-night Doubleheader in 1997 (in which the Yankees clinched the division in game 1), I was sitting way out around in the outfield right up against the wall overlooking the visitors bullpen.
Near the end of game 2, I saw out of the corner of my eye a ball heading over my head (thrown by some Brewer Reliever). I leaped and grabbed it out of the air.
Not a foul ball, but a ball. I still have it.

...or there may have been a HR hit by a Yankee around that time... Memory is a little foggy.

I caught one at a Richmond Braves (AAA) game years ago, back when Chipper Jones, etc. were playing in AAA.

No, but my wife got hit by one at an SI Yankees game last year. She wasn't hurt, just shaken up, but we did have to go to the hospital for precautionary x-rays.
Three....Tim Raines,Al Oliver and Andre Dawson. First two in the same game.
Not fair. You were one of three people at that Expos game.Originally Posted by montrealer

Twice . In 1995 off the bat of Brett Barbarie caught it clean.
In 2001, at the Cal Ripken game of the bat of Shane Spencer in the twelth inning, it would wind up a tie in 14 innings two weeks after 9/11.
I picked up the ball and left .
This isn't the JDP question of the day, is it?
(I never been close to a foul ball landing near me at a game)

Yep. At a minor league game in El Paso. Trying to impress my girlfriend, I chased after the foul ball and actually caught it with my bare hands (dislocated a finger). She put the date on it (sometime May 1994) and I still have it.

I caught one thrown by Pedro and hit by O'Neill in 1999.
My father caught one with me sitting next to him. Hit by Darryl Strawberry.
Great catch too, one handed stab on a pretty solid liner.

Caught? No. Got? Yes.
A few years ago I went to an A's game at the Coliseum. I was in a cast because I had recently had surgery on my achilles so I wasn't very mobile. A foul ball came our way and everyone (but me) stood to get it. The ball ricocheted off the hands of someone a couple of row above me and bounced and basically rolled right to my feet. I picked it up and held it up in victory!![]()
That's pretty much the only foul ball that's even ever come near me. I must have terrible luck because I have sat in some seats that are prime areas for foul balls but just never had any come my way.
2009 - World Champion New York Yankees!!
No, but I got hit by a foul ball in the thigh during a minor league baseball game when I wasn't paying attention. (My dad was walking down the aisle with a hot dob for me and I was watching that!) It left a HUGE bruise that was there for well over two weeks. Never came even close at a MLB game.

Never.
I've been to a lot of games, both Majors and Minors. Our local AAA team has a small stadium, and I've been to enough games that you'd think I'd have a collection by now, but the nearest one ever got to me was still 3 or 4 rows away.

Actually, it was a ground rule double hit by Tim Raines back in 97 or 98. I ended up giving the ball to a kid who was sitting right behind me.

Close, and could've if I had tried. I was being recruited by a competitor and was takeng to a Patriot's Day game at Fenway a few years back. Manny hit a pop-up into the stands, and it was coming right at our group. Actually, right at me. Everyone reached up, I covered my face and looked down. Sure enough, when I watched the replay, you woulda' seen me clear as day most certainly NOT at my job. The person I was with caught it instead.
i got a ball from batting practice last season.. lucky bounce towards me

No, but I once accidentally hit Ken Hill in the head with a baseball bat in 1999 when the Angels were in town.
Does a little league game count?
I caught a ground rule double down the left-field line by Damon last year.
Lance Berkman is a Yankee!! Finally a Rice U. guy on the team!
September 24, 1999, I caught two balls during batting practice and a Ricky Ledee foul ball during the game. Two days later I caught another ball during batting pracitce.
I haven't been in the same section as a foul ball since....

Yes. Off the bat of Lou Piniella. Upper deck behind home plate.
Thanks!
Go Yanks!
Nope. Closest I ever came was a BP homer hit by Bernie while I was in Monument Park, but some little kid squeezed between the wall and the crane they had out there and stole it from me. Little bastard already had one, too.
I momentarily thought of tackling him and forcing a fumble.
When my wife was a kid her dad caught 2 at a game at Fenway - and then gave both to OTHER kids sitting around them. Harsh.

How nice of you. I always say that if I get a foul ball there is no way I'm giving it to a little kid sitting near me. He has his whole life to try to get a foul ball. I'm running out of time, damn it!Originally Posted by Casey37

I don't really actively try for them so no it's never happened. I don't wanna break my neck trying to fight with other people and since I don't bring a mitt to a game anymore cuz I'm not 10, I don't wanna break my fingers either.

I haven't personally, but my best friend's hubby caught one when we were there in my seats...It was when Clemens was pitching for Toronto, first Yankee batter of the game - to Knobby. We brought the ball to ST to see if we could get both to sign it when they were both Yankees but neither of them were too accessible.

Never got one. I was a few seats away, same row as Delgado's HR into the Pepsi Porch at citi last week ... the closest I've been in a long time.
At Yankee Stadium a few years back, a rookie Mariner pitcher named JJ threw me a BP ball. JJ now pitches the 8th for the mets.
Not yet.
