Can anyone recommend some inexpensive wines that taste good? I'm looking for something under $15 because I want to buy a few bottles and I don't want to spend a lot of money. I don't drink wine because I don't really like the taste of it but I want to keep some around for when I have have guests.

I don't know the difference between a chardonnay and a pinot grigio or a shiraz and other reds. I've tried different kinds of red and white wines -- some inexpensive and some very expensive -- and I never liked any of them (except for Fat Bastard Chardonnay because I like the name) so I have no idea what to buy. Any help would be appreciated.

Right now you can get some really good Malbecs from Argentina around the $9-$12 range.

Domestically, Berringer makes some good wines in that range. While they are well-known for White Zin, they make a good Cab and Red Zin.

My sister who works in the wine industry recently recommended Smoking Loon's syrah and Black Mountain's pinot noir as easy to find, cheap and good options.

You're making yourself suffer for no reason

There are places that have 2 for 1 sales. There are very, very good Italian wines out there for $10-12 (figure $2 a glass).

Although, there are some very good jug wines from Italia, too.

I like some chardonnays but find a lot of them a bit too "oaky" for me. I'll try that one though.

Now I remember. I used to use some $10-15 port when making meat. I should use that, since I've been using mostly tomato soup, onions and spices. Pretty good wine tastes better than the cheaper "cooking wine", I believe.

That's a good solution. I always tend to bring my own because I really only drink the pinot, and some of the cheap pinots are pretty gross.

I do have a funny story though....one of our best friends Eddie is not a big wine drinker and this woman brought over wine one night to his house - she paid $140- for this bottle of wine and it was damn good. I can't even describe how smooth it was. Eddie being Eddie put an ice cube in it. We all gasped and laughed our asses off.

Wine....yuck. The only time I drank wine was on my senior trip cruise in Greece....and that was only because it was a free cocktail hour for all Americans on board (4th of July).

For Red Wines, go with some South American wines. They are usually reasonably priced and great wines for novice wine drinkers.

If they put ice in their beer, use a straw and put it into a wine goblet and an umbrella thingy, then "dead" may be the proper term if they do this in front of me.

Why not just keep beer in case you get company? Unless it's friends of the family.

You may need a small wine cooler for about $100 or so. That's more than the bottles themselves cost.

If you cook a lot, then having a good selection may help.

Red with meat; white with fish and chicken. I have no idea what rose goes with. Crabmeat? Lobster? Who knows?
