Calmer than you are.
he pitched for a team named after hot sauce in 2008... sweet
I can see him best being a reliever at the big league level if he can get lefties out. If he can get lefties out and is at least decent against righties, I think he's the perfect guy to go to against a L-R-L part of an opposing lineup.
If he commits to being a reliever and drops down a little more from the left side, he could be that sidearming Mike Myers type of lefty with the ability to be a standard right-hander against righties.
Admittedly I don't know much about the guy other than what I saw in ST, but then again I'm not exactly coming up with any rocket surgery here.

why doesn't this guy get a promotion? while he may not be a top prospect, it seems he has proven every thing he can at tampa

Clearly the roster spots in Trenton are too valuable... which is why J.B. Cox is there.

so do you think he will ever make it to the majors?
I doubt it.Originally Posted by schitling38
Makes it? Yes.
With the Yankees? Probably not.
STAYS in the Majors? No.
If the question is, "Will he ever pitch in the Majors?" I say yes. Not for very long though is my guess.

I don't get it either. Venditte's stuff may not be blistering, but the guy obviously knows how to pitch. He's been extremely effective throughout his professional career, there's no reason not to see what he can do at the next level right now.Originally Posted by schitling38
I'd prefer to see him (at least from the sideshow aspect) in Trenton over JB Cox.

AA will be a good test for him next year.

I agree. You can succeed with far worse stuff than normal pitchers when you always have the platoon advantage (switch-hitters not included, obviously).Originally Posted by dabomb2045
Yeah as long as he keeps having success no reason not to move him up the chain.Originally Posted by YESSIR!
Guys like Ziegler and Bradford with their submarine still were thought of as gimick pitchers too who wouldn't go far through organizations and both were very effective MLb relivers at times.
But he's the kind of guy that is always going to move based on results and not really on untaped potential.
Baseball is life;
the rest is just details.
Somebody will put him on the field because his sideshow will be fun to watch. But once that is gone, it is doubtful that his stuff will keep him there.
Isn't he 85 from the right side and 80 from the left?
Maybe if he had 5 mph more from each side, he could last more than a year or two.
We shall see, the kid seems like a heck of a competitor.

Never argue with an idiot. They'll bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.
Interesting that you mention Chad Bradford as he got a whole chapter Moneyball about being buried in the White sox organization who thought he was nothing more than an organizational filler. Billy Beane saw it differently and traded for him.Originally Posted by Yankee Tripper

I was hoping to see him last night in New Britain. I'm going again tonight so hopefully he'll pitch.

Saw him pitch tonight in New Britain. In and around allowing 2 runs on 4 hits, he struck out the side, two righty and one lefty. It was amusing seeing the reactions to the people around me "did they just make a pitching change? I didn't see the manager come out".
