Rick Porcello will most likely be Tigers 5 starter out of Spring Training

Wow, the tigers rush there prospects way too fast ( Cameron Maybin). He has had 1 full pro season under his belt and he has never pitched above A ball. He was good in A ball as he was 8-6 with a 2.66 ERA in 125 innings, (only 72 K's) but not dominate enough to be promoted so young.

I read this article on cbssportsline.com when it previewed the Tigers.

Desperation move. Things just haven't been working for the Tigers since '06 when everything went right. The kid is good and he probably will compete well, but what will the price be long term?

Didn't we miss him by one draft spot?

Yes, we would have most likely picked him. We picked Brackman after that.

Starts the clock ticking sooner till he can become an FA. Would be nice to bring the Jersey boy home as he reaches his prime....

He went 27th to the Tigers and the Yankees took Brackman 30th. It seemed like the Yanks missed him by one pick because of who was picking between 28th (the Twins) and 29th (the Giants, via the Mets/Moises Alou). Neither team had any interest in rolling out the big bucks for Porcello, this was obvious. The Tigers originally wanted Tim Alderson but when he went 22nd to the Giants (via the Dodgers/Jason Schmidt), it was apparent that the Tigers would then choose between Brackman and Porcello, leaving the Yankees with sloppy seconds.

This is just like how they rushed Andrew Miller and destroyed him. The Tigers are absolute morons.
Lance Berkman is a Yankee!! Finally a Rice U. guy on the team!

I think he'll definitely be successfull, but I'd be afraid of his arm falling off.
    Calmer than you are.

He's got really good stuff... I wonder if they'd consider putting him in the bullpen?

I remember this kid when he was at Seton Hall Prep. and made all state. If Detroit handles him right and don't rush him he should be an ace pitcher in a few years. He is the real deal!
