Natasha Richardson Critically Injured in Ski Accident..

Despite being athletic, skiing has always scared the hell out of me and I've never tried it:

British actress Natasha Richardson was hospitalized after falling on a beginners trail at the famed Mont Tremblant ski resort during a lesson, the resort and published reports said Tuesday.

IrishCentral.com reported that the Tony Award-winning actress and wife of Liam Neeson was in critical condition with a head injury.

Odd that she seemed okay at first and now has a critical head injury. Someone I used to work with had hit his head in a car accident and seemed fine..a few days later he was dead.

I hope she's okay...always seemed like a nice woman.

My first thought here - there may be something wrong that has nothing to do with her fall:

Mont Tremblant spokeswoman Catherine Lacasse said Richardson was getting a private lesson and that she said she was fine at first.
"An hour later she said she didn't feel well. She had a headache, so we sent her to the hospital," Lacasse said. "There were no signs of impact and no blood, nothing."

the other article said the same thing but stopped short of saying brain dead..I hope that's not the case but critical and brain injury doesn't sound good either way.

I first heard about this on Howard Stern today - he said he just spoke to her about a week ago -- she was a super nice woman. ..he said he thought Liam did a great job in the movie Taken and she said that she had told her husband not to listen to her suggestions anymore because she told him not to do the movie. He was pretty shocked that this happened and said she's a really really nice person.

That doesn't seem to make a whole lot of sense. Her mother's flying in from London, so why wouldn't she just fly to Montreal? One son's already there, so it's still easier to get the other one up there than to fly a patient on life support to NY.

There are a lot of conflicting reports on the Internet but I find it hard to believe they would let someone with a critical brain injury or even brain swelling board a plane so soon after an accident like this. The only reason would be if she were already brain dead. Then again, I'm not a doctor and don't know much about things like this so I hope I'm wrong. It's very sad.

Natasha Richardson was reported to be "fine at first" after she hit her head in a skiing accident, but the 45-year-old actress' health began to deteriorate within an hour.

Now sources close to the Tony award-winning actress say she is brain dead and being flown back to New York, where she will be taken off life support.

“I can only speculate, but it sounds like something we call the ‘talk and die’ syndrome,” said Dr. Steven Flanagan, director of Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine at New York University’s Langone Medical Center.

“What this implies is that someone hits their head and they are seemingly OK initially," he told FOXNews.com. "But then they get a rapid collection of blood — usually called epidural hemorrhage — and that means bleeding between the skull and the brain.”

Kind of the opposite, actually, I would think. If it were swelling and could be savable, I don't see why they would put her in a plane so soon afterward. Unless her condition was unsavable. But I'm not a doctor.

I'm stunned that she wasn't wearing a helmet. The articles said she was taking a ski lesson and most resorts now require all students to wear helmets. And regardless, even an experienced skier can easily catch an edge and fall. Everyone should wear one.

Very very sad news. She and Liam Neeson came to my office once but I wasn't here - I always remember it because they came to see my boss and the meeting was rescheduled from when I was here to when I wasn't. Anyway, I will keep them all in my prayers - what a tragic accident.

Her accident is very similar to what what happened to a friend's sister last summer. She was at a party and fell down a flight of stairs, but seemed okay and just told her friends she wanted to go to sleep. By the morning she was brain dead and the family had to fly in to take her off life support. Horrible.
