I hated it last year the same way to a degree.

I've really grown to like the 7 keeper floor - it makes it a true keeper league in the sense that you really have to plan long-term in many instances.

Pierzinski for one year is $1, for a renewal.
Drew for one year is $2, for a renewal.
Carpenter for one year is $10, for a renewal.

One year deals are renewals, same price as previous year, but cannot be signed longterm once the season ends.

weaver, carmona and kendrick will get you a $4 penalty total for dropping them.

    Re: Keepers

    Reminder for the new guys:

    (1) Players with an asterisk cannot be kept

    (2) Renewing a player (one year deal) means NO INCREASE in salary -- but you cannot keep him past this season.

    (3) Multi-year (2-3-4) year deals incur a $4 increase in salary FOR EACH YEAR of the deal. A $1 player would be:

    2 year extention: $9 in 2009, $9 in 2010
    3 year extention: $13 in 2009, $13 in 2010, $13 in 2011
    4 year extention: $17 in 2009, $17 in 2010, $17 in 2011, $17 in 2012

or $1 for 2009, cannot be kept in 2010.

    Re: Keepers

Ok, I need a little explanation here.

Players signed to contracts that say 1 year on my roster page, are free agents right, unless I decide I want to keep them right? So if I want to keep Utley at 36 or VMart at 23 I can?

But any player locked into a two year deal like Gordon or Granderson I can keep at their current salary or release at a penalty?

Players listed a 2, 3 or 4 years are yours at that salary, correct, unless you release them at penalty.

Utley, for example can be kept at:

$36, One year, must be released at end of 2009
$44, Two years, must be released at end of 2010.
$48, Three years, must be released at end of 2011.
$52, Four years, must be released at end of 2012.

If you renew someone (one year @current salary) you cannot sign them long-term after this year.

Anyone listed as 1 Year* cannot be kept.

Ah right - I had planned on promoting after the draft.

I'll keep him at $5 (1 year) and drop JJ Hardy all together.

    Thanks E.

    Re: Keepers

I had an idea about the penalties that we got for dropping multi-year guys early. I was thinking E could add that penalty to one of our keeper's salaries so that the numbers add up during the draft and then set the keeper's salary back to what it should be after the draft. I'd think this would be easier on all of us instead of having to remember what penalty each guy has.

    Re: Keepers

That makes sense, but I've got no penalties = no worries here.

Has anyone made a list of the available players? I want to come prepared, even though I think the site makes it pretty straightforward.

Good call. Even better than having to switch them back after the draft.
