Thread: Contest - The 8th Annual NYYFans.com Prediction Contest

  1. #151

Re: Contest - The 8th Annual NYYFans.com Prediction Contest

OK, I have cleaned up the responses to sections 2 and 4 of the contest. The rest will have to wait.

Also, Robinson Cano had the first steal of the season.

There are two people at the top of the leaderboard (BonusCantos and Zimmers' Helmet) with 30 points, and 19 others tied for third place with 29.

I sure hope I don't get the First Yankee Pitcher to win a game question correct.

The prize is, there's a page on the Interwebs where you can go and see your name and how many points you have. Show off to all your friends!

Good idea. I'm not sure I'll be able to maintain my 19 way tie for third all season, so I'd better take advantage of the situation to do my boasting now.

Wow, I'm in 22nd place! Who cares if I am tied with 33 other people.

Glad to see the first stolen base happen about two weeks earlier than last season. Even know I answered that question wrong.

I'm counted wrong for Robinson Cano hitting the first HR in Yankee stadium, technically he was, just not during the regular season. I should get points for that since it wasn't stated it had to be regular season

    Forget about DEADSOX!

I got my own beef. I still haven't been credited yet ... for two more wrong answers! On top of all the rest I've had wrong, I've also missed ....

The first Yankee pitcher to win a game? I had CC Sabathia. X

The Yankees' record after 10 games? My guess was 4-6. X

It's all ok. There's a 25 point penalty for any Red Sox fan who lied anywhere in the contest.

Fat chance! Last year was luck. Besides, I've lost yet another one for the longest winning streak of the season. Aren't the Yankees sitting on eight in a row right now?

Those standings are meaningless because most of the points are for predictions that have to do with stuff that happens in the whole season

Hey Gordo ... I don't think CBNYC will be able to see the standings unless they are taking part in the contest. Maybe Lou can show the overall so far, somehow.

Hi everyone, sorry it's been so long since I've had time to think about this. I have added the answers to two more questions:
First pitcher to get a win: A.J. Burnett
Yankees' record after 10 games: 5-5

I don't think anyone has been DFA'd yet ... but if I'm wrong, somebody please correct me (and provide a link to confirm your answer)!

I'm pretty sure Steven Jackson was DFA'd before Pitt cliamed him but he was on the 40-man not the 25-man so I don't know if that counts or not.

Yes. Use the correct User Name and the password you chose for the contest site (it should not have been your NYYFANS.com password). Once in you can negotiate to the 2009 Leaderboard.

    Thanks for that link!

I see Dan Giese was DFA'd on 4/4 (which technically was before Opening Day), and both Steven Jackson and Eric Hacker were DFA'd on 5/10. Veras was DFA'd on 6/16.

I also note that earlier in the thread, John ruled that the player must be DFA'd from the 25-man roster (which Veras was).

I'll let John make the final ruling on the matter.

The following answers have been updated:
    * Veras is the first DFA
    * Yankees' 80-game record is 47-33
    * Veras got the under on both of his questions
    * Nady got the under on both of his questions

I would like to extend my condolences to the person who said the Yankees' record would be 47-32. I won't name names.

Okay, who said Hideki Irabu would be on the Opening Day roster?

Damn, I got the Yankees for 4.1 million in attendance. And 8 with double-digit home runs.

Nady out for the season messed up my answers. I did say 47-33. Still, 3 points out of first is not bad.

I can't believe I got this one on the nose! I think there should be more than one point awarded for that. It's hard to nail that one exactly.

Oh well, I'm 3 points out of 1st. Of course I already know I'm not getting points for longest winning and losing streak as I had 8 and 4 for those, respectively.

Re: Contest - The 8th Annual NYYFans.com Prediction Contest

It is now impossible for the Yankees to have an attendance of over 4 million this season. With 39 home games left the Yankees would have to average 53,000+ to do it and that is more than the current seating capacity of NYS.
