Spring Training Minor League All Prupose Prospect Thread

Time to close out the off season thread and begin anew with the start of spring training.

After undergoing reconstructive elbow surgery on Aug. 24, 2007, Brackman spent the next regular season recovering. Price and others zoomed by.
“I see all my friends who got drafted the same class as me, like David Price, and I see how good they’re doing and how they get to play,” Brackman said. “It makes me want to get back so much quicker. It’s frustrating sitting on the couch. It was hard to watch last year.”

“I spoke to a lot of the scouts who saw him in Hawaii,” said Damon Oppenheimer, the Yankees’ vice president for amateur scouting, “and when he was good, they said he was dominating and has the potential to be really special.”

Manager Joe Girardi was watching, and he said Brackman impressed him with the way he made adjustments during the session. If he made a mistake, Girardi said, Brackman fixed it on the next pitch. That was no accident.

“The standards we have and try to keep with the Yankees are a little bit higher,” Oppenheimer said. “When there’s a potential for impact, we might have to take a little bit more of a risk to get the type of player who can play in New York.”

“Every day that I throw here, I’m getting my feel back for every one of my pitches,” Brackman said. “I’ve just got to throw more. I need innings. Hawaii was mainly just to go out to see if my arm was going to stand up. And now I realize I need to spend more time setting up hitters, just being around the game. I know how to play; it’s just doing it, and that’s going to take experience.”

    http://www.nytimes.com/2009/02/23/sp...1&ref=baseball
Cashman told Accorsi, “I feel the responsibility of millions of Yankee fans on my shoulders, fans who take this very seriously and for which every game is very important. I think of that every day.”

i mentioned in the other thread that you get a quick glimpse of Garcia in the yankees 30 teams in 30 days thing, but you also get to see a bit of jesus montero while Arod is hitting in the cage, and he is massive

Talked with Alan this afternoon after he was finished at the field. He said he threw as scheduled and everything is progressing nicely. They increased his number of pitches and went from all work from the set position to half from the set and half from the full wind-up. He said it is falling into place very well. He said his arm feels good and his command seems to sharpen with each work session.....

I think he will at least for extended, but had the same thought last year and he stayed... so, with the Yankees you never know.

On Yes network's spring training workouts Pt. 2 video you can see Posada giving defensive tips to Jesús Montero.

    Not sure I like that.

Come on. You don't want Montero refusing to block the plate or providing a horrendous target for his pitchers to throw to? For shame.

Couldn't agree more. As a fan, it's truly refreshing to watch Molina's target. I can't imagine the difference for a ML pitcher.

The comfort for a pitcher to know where the ball needs to be far exceeds any chance that setting up late prohibits hitters from discovering pitch location.

    Boy, aint' that the truth.

I've never had a problem with Posada not blocking the plate. Considering the value, as shown last year, of a first string catcher, the risks involved aren't worth the occasional run, but that late setup drives me every time.

His second AB he hit a line drive to right center. The CF was playing shallow over toward left, but the ball sliced back to him and he made a diving catch.

It gets by and it's an inside the park hr.

with his delivery and late movement, its no wonder that he doesnt give up many hits

When a guy sits 91-92 this early in spring training, does that mean the he sits 92-93 early in the regular season and when it gets warm, perhaps 92-94? If this is true, than Phil Hughes is on pace to sit 92-94, gasp! Melancon too, though his velocity isn't under the microscope like it is Phil's.

The game is being covered by a Minny radio station - so if you have the MLB.tv audio or video packages, you'll be able to listen to the game.

If you go to www.yankees.com, Bryan Hoch might be live-blogging the game - in case you want to skip porky

If anyone who has that package is intrepid enough to relay any info. the broadcasters offered on Brackman's appearance I - and I'm sure everyone in this thread - would greatly appreciate it.

    "Big, tall, lanky"

"Fly out to centerfield, Jackson puts it away" (hope to hear this a lot )
Line drive second out to second, not saying much about him, pitching inside quite a bit though - no misses so far (on swings)
HR from Kubel. Down the right line. Still nothing on the pitches, frustrating.

Fly out to right to finish it.

No idea how he looked as the broadcasters were focused on hitters. No swings and misses though. Hopefully he'll go another inning and we'll see if he settles down.

    Bold Prediction:

Alan Horne strikes out Pedroia on a nasty hook at some point this season, causing the little man to pout & slam his bat.
