Thread: NYYFans is making my browser crash

NYYFans is making my browser crash

On my Apple iBook G4, OS X, Safari browser. It's been happening for the past three days. Safari will just completely quit when I open a new forum/thread. This is ONLY happening at this site, no others.

Anyone else having a similar problem? Or know what might be causing it?

FWIW, it's happening on Firefox, too. Your dollars are hard at work.

Johnny, is it still happening for you? No relief for me.

Nobody has any idea? It's beyond annoying. I'm going to have to stop visiting the forum soon.

It's been happening to me too. Not every time, but often enough.

Is there an ad crashing the browser?

Its been happening to me too for at least a few days. Incidentally, that is also when I turned adblock off for this site. Kills both safari and firefox browsers on OS X.

Sorry Jim, I'm turning adblock back on for this site, to see if it fixes the problem.

That's probably it. I run Firefox on my G4 and haven't had a problem, but I use the AdBlock Plus extension (sorry, nyyfans! ) which is heaven.

So far, it has only crashed once since I turned Adblock back on. I haven't really been using Safari anymore, so I don't know if the problem is fixed, or if it is an ad that adblock is blocking that has stopped the crashing.

It's still happening for me, but less frequently. Still a couple times a day.

A little recognition from the mods?

Using adblock takes revenue away from the site, though if the level of donations are enough via the current fundraiser we would be able to reduce the amount of ads.

Can anyone pinpoint what ad might be causing this problem? Neither Jim nor I have had any problems so we need a little guidance as to what ad it might be so we can remove it.

I know, and didn't want to turn it back on, but I was literally getting kicked off every several minutes. Sometimes I would reopen Firefox to the same page, then get booted right back off 30 seconds later. It was either turn adblock back on, or stop coming to the site. Either one takes revenue away from the site. I try every few sessions to turn adblock off to see if the problem is fixed (cause I am kinda nerdy like that), but turn it back on once I get booted.

To answer your question, I don't know what ad is causing the problem, or if it is even an ad at all. All I can really say is that the crashes have stopped almost completely when adblock is on.

I haven't had the problem, and I don't have anything blocking ads.

Re: NYYFans is making my browser crash

Since my last post, I've turned off blocking software, and the crashing has not occurred. Also, there has been a software update for OS X, which included a java update. I think I remember Safari telling me during one crash that it may have been java related, so maybe the crashing has been fixed?

Bump...it's back. I forgot to come back and post when the problem finally stopped - about a week ago.

Unfortunately the site is crashing for me again, as of today. I was able to notice that an ad for Domino's started to load just before my browser crashed last time. This happening again for anyone else?

Re: NYYFans is making my browser crash

    It's definitely the Domino's ad.
