is it people who use twitter? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twitter
The last thing I want to do is have a running commentary on my life or have to read anyone else's. I'm sure it's wonderful for people that like that sort of thing but I'll pass.
Who has the time? I'm barely able to keep up with here, Facebook, Harvick OnLine and reading my e-mail, much less tweet!![]()

Yes and no. Tweets are text based so not only can you read them online, you can sign up to have them texted or emailed directly to you. Woohoo!Originally Posted by Bozidar

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say it's because he's actually looking for people that tweet and those people already know what it is.Originally Posted by Jersey Yankee

Well, couldn't the rest of us be clued in? If not, I'll just post using some industry-specific jargon, leaving no clear indication on what exactly I'm referring to, and seek only replies from people who are familiar with these slangs.Originally Posted by yankeebot

BTW, I thought that "tweeting" meant making bird noises. Especialy when I saw "Why?"

I have a bro-in-law who constantly tweets. Tells me when he's at Starbucks or showing houses (he's a realtor) - I just find the whole concept a little odd.
I did a lot more during the election.
This application is more geared towards cell phones, which I don't use online.
If I'm already at a computer, Twitter is kind of pointless.

Not really - it's a fun little distraction. Use tweetdeck and start following people.Originally Posted by yankeesAZ

i used to use it a lot, back when they would send text messages to you whenever someone updated. I used it because I'm president of my section here at medschool (roughly 140 of the 550 students in 1st year med).
I'd found that the best way to send them announcements in the past was for me to sign up to twitter and have everyone else follow me. They would then register their cellphones to get automatic updates for whenever i update with an announcement and they would be forwarded that text message. It saved me time and hassle texting everyone individually.
But unfortunately... twitter has since gotten rid of texting updates (outside of USA and UK at least). So it's been unused since. I find it easier nowadays just to text my 6 subsec leaders and have them forward it to the rest of the class. And if my class doesn't hear about it, then it's not my problem, haha.
I'd actually recommend using it with a similar function for those who need to get regular announcements out to various groups. It's still a valid option in the US, and is totally convenient because you can update your twitter status via the internet or even thru your phone by sending a text to a certain number associated with twitter.

It's like the LTE, though, and even better, I'd say. You follow those whom you know and want to know about - that's it. You can follow 1 person and get their updates or follow 1000 people and get their updates. Updates can be anything from interesting links, to "what am I doing right now" to announcements and news updates. It's not all silly stuff.Originally Posted by Trish
I'm surprised your girls don't do this. It's a big thing. And it's used in a lot of ways. For some people it's a constant running commentary which I think is bizarre but to each their own. For others, it's just a few posts here and there just to keep friends and family informed. There is even a tracking app so you can know exactly where your friends are at all times. And for businesses, it's kind of the next evolution of e-mail for shorter messages that are fast moving and more immediate.Originally Posted by Trish

I don't know, I guess I just like the idea of privacy and really don't have any interest in exactly what a friend or colleague is doing at any given moment.
Those who have it, knock yourselves out. I think it's weird.

What goes on in the LTE? Mindless streams of conversation, with links thrown in. That's what Twitter is. even better, because, say, for example, I don't care to read what Karen says - I don't follow her, so I can't see her posts (updates). Simple. I follow you, I can see what you have to say and it can be anything that you post in the LTE - what's going on in your kids' lives, what you're making for dinner, how you're feeling, etc.Originally Posted by Trish
When you sign up for twitter, you don't follow the whole world. You choose whom you want to follow. LTE is not like that - anyone can come in and post what they want and hijack a thread - less likely to happen in twitter.
You also don't have to check it on the website constantly. I use a software that updates automatically and I check when I feel like - see if there's an interesting conversation going on between my friends and jump in if I want.
Why do you hate Karen?Originally Posted by gdn
