ND's coaches. I am fine with what Kelly is trying to do. We have tried the whole "resume based coaching staff"...and it got us 2 years of dysfunction. If you look at this SC dream team of assistants, they have this advantage of all having coached together before. In our situation, Charlie went out and threw this group of guys together with great resumes but no ability to work together. It resulted in the brilliant defensive scheme that we saw...oh yea, and our stellar OL play.Originally Posted by Yankees1962
What Kelly has done (on the plus side) is hire guys that understand him, his system, and work well together. The positives, in my mind, are that they are young, going to be extremely energetic (with huge chips on their shoulders), and several of whom have coached at a level of football that requires you to take the talent available and make them better then the equivalent talent elsewhere.
The question becomes can they pull equivalent classes to Charlie in as recruiters. I honestly believe they will coach the kids better and we will see much more out of the same level of talent. I believe they can...we won't know until next year.
And I will predict (assuming a healthy Dayne Crist), at least a 9-3+ record next year because I think this staff will coach our talent that much better. Long term depends on recruiting.

According to this report, they're still negotiating.Originally Posted by NDBoston

mike and mike brought up a good point this AM...
it isn't so much that lane kiffin is an absolutely douchebag for bailing on the recruits he just signed...
it isn't so much the urban meyers of the world who have no problem calling up recruits and telling them to bail on their commitments to UT and instead go to Florida (see the OLB UF just out and out stole from UT)...
it's the way kiffin had his assistants immediately call the incoming signees to tell them NOT to attend class, so that they may more easily transfer out of UT and head to USC.
and they say baseball's broken LOL...

Not to completely switch gears here and I'm sure I'm the only one who was in the dark on this but Layla Kiffin is smoking.

Its a dog eat dog world...why should CFB be any different?
At the end of the day, programs/franchises will dump you quicker than Usain Bolt if they dont want you. So as long as you are in demand ( for whatever reason ), you might as well take advantage of it.

And doesn't she look thrilled to be at Tennessee in that picture?Originally Posted by Brick Tamland

If Orgeron did make the calls, he wasn't doing this while he was at UT either.Originally Posted by NDBoston

The coach's calls were apparently put on a player's speaker function on his phone for the team to hear before Kiffin arrived in the room.

The article goes on to document Kiffin being an even bigger d-bag.In February of 2009, just a few months after Lane Kiffin's tenure began at the University of Tennessee, Vols senior center Josh McNeil walked into the Neyland-Thompson sports complex on the university campus. He paused alongside the Vols 1998 national championship trophy and shook his head in disbelief.
"They'd replaced our highlight video from the past season with Reggie Bush, Matt Leinart, and Dwayne Jarrett from USC. I was like, 'Man, I know we were 5-7 last year, but this is Tennessee. Right beside our national title trophy? Come on, man.'"
Walking up the stairs, McNeil, a 6-foot-4 280 pound offensive lineman, says that all the televisions in the complex, at least 20, were tuned to still photos of stellar plays featuring USC athletes. In particular, McNeil paused in front of one photo of Reggie Bush diving into the end zone on a sunlit California field.
"I was thinking, 'Damn, Jamal Lewis went here. Travis Henry went here. It ain't like we never had any running backs of our own.'"

http://content.usatoday.com/communit...der-scrutiny/1What new Southern California assistant coach Ed Orgeron said to recruits at Tennessee remained under scrutiny Thursday as the dust started to settle in the wake of UT head coach Lane Kiffin's abrupt departure for USC.
The Los Angeles Times quotes Jeff Bray, the father of former Kingsburg (Calif.) High quarterback Tyler Bray as saying Orgeron was on a conference call Tuesday offering recruits scholarships to USC. Jeff Bray told the paper his son was upset with the move. Eight players -- a combination of junior college transfers and early enrollees -- were on campus Tuesday to begin the spring semester, according to sports information director Bud Ford. Classes began Wednesday.
Orgeron has said he did not break rules in contacting players and insists he was trying to answer families' questions about options. Asked specifically by the Times if he advised recruits not to attend the first day of class so they could skirt transfer rules, he said, "I'm not going to get into that."
I know this is more of an ethical issue than NCAA infraction but Orgeron looks like a complete scumbag on this.
