NICE first play by Sanchez.
....
Welcome to NY. Sanchez's first drive is a 93-yard 8-play TD drive. Included a deep 45 yard pass to Clowney, and two other completions to Keller. He just missed Smith on a fade down the sideline.
He looked very comfortable......

So, the Jets officially made Mark Sanchez their starter. Personally, I think that was a great move, especially when you consider the alternative. On the one hand, you can let Sanchez go on the field, get used to the speed of the NFL, he'll work out the bumps with his coaches. Sure, he struggled in the preseason so far, but he came back out and improved. The kid obviously has presence, and good potential to be a leader. Besides, the Jets have a good defense and running game so Sanchez won't have to carry the team.
Clemens, on the other hand, has proven over the years that he's not a starter. The Jets wouldn't do themselves any good if they started him. Sanchez wouldn't get the experience, and the team wouldn't go far. While I'm not expecting the Jets to be SB contenders this year, in the long run, cultivating Sanchez now and helping him develop will serve them well, even if he struggles early on. Just ask the Colts.
Due to Greene's rib injury, the Jets signed UDFA Anthony Kimble out of Stanford.
How long is Greene out for? I'm too lazy to research.

Per Cimini:
Rookie RB Shonn Greene (ribs) is likely to miss the remainder of the preseason, according to Ryan. There are no fractures, Ryan said, but Greene has "cartilage issues." That certainly will impact the plans to use a three-headed backfield in the early portion of the season.
I know it's pre-season, but Sanchez looks like a real NFL QB.

I get Cutler jersey last year (because he kicked ass for my fantasy football team and I used it for a Halloween costume/joke thing; I don't really care about Denver) and he gets traded during the offseason.
It's also why I bought a blank Yankees jersey.
Then again, my Yankees t-shirts have been okay (Damon, A-Rod), so maybe the T is the way to go.

I think this team is gonna be better then people think. I've been impressed with Sanchez so far--of course he will go thru ups and downs, but I think this kid will def be the franchise QB we have been waiting for since Namath.
I expect the defense to be one of the better units in the league as the season goes along. Also keep your eyes on Chansi Stuckey--I think he's gonna have a breakout season.

I caught some of the highlights from the game against the Giants and he made a heck of a play on that TD. hes moving around in the pocket much better than he did last year - its crazy that he played the entire season with a bad knee last year and still put up the numbers that he did.
Has taken off from the LOS and lowered the shoulder into a Linebacker instead of going out of bounds yet? I always got a kick out of him doing that, even if it was completely stupid of him to do so.

It's also not a new deal for RB Leon Washington. Did some checking on that, too, and the two sides aren't engaged in serious talks.

The NFL is considering fining the Jets for Favre's comments yesterday that the Jets knew he was hurt, and didn't put him on the injury reports. Meanwhile the Patriots falsely list Tom Brady on there every week, and no one says a work.

Sanchez looks awesome... Just awesome.
edit: Although it is true he could have 2 INT's right now. But still, he's looked great.

Sanchez has game awareness well beyond his years. I love his pocket presence....like the great ones, he is able to feel the rush and move around in the pocket enough to buy himself more time to find an open receiver. Clemens NEVER had this and thats why I felt Sanchez should be starting from Day 1.
He has a good arm, fluid release, can run a bit....he really has everything you want in a QB. I really believe the Jets have finally found their franchise guy.

few other things worth mentioning:
1) Rex Ryan remains aggressive all game. Up 17....Ryan is still sending in different blitzes. None of this sitting back and playing prevent defense crap....Mangini LOVED playing conservative with a big lead. The 2nd Pats game last year was an example--he just sat back and allowed Cassel to pick the defense apart. Ryan doesnt do this. He's gonna play his aggressive style for 60 minutes. I LOVE IT.
2) The Jets tackling was great. Its been a staple of past Jets teams to be very poor tackling teams. Missing open field tackles--or hitting guys up high allowing them to either break the tackle or drag the guy for an extra few yards. The Jets gave up so many 20+ yard plays under Mangini due to poor tackling. Didnt see this today. Saw great open field tackling--good fundamentals in terms of hitting the ballcarrier square and at the waist and wrapping the guy up with two arms. Thats a staple of the Ravens D--and I'm glad Ryan has brought this mentality over here too. A 5 yard play stayed a 5 yard play--didnt see any of the missed tackles allowing a 5 yard play to become a 15-20+ yard play.
3) The Jets attacked the ball well today. You really didnt see the Texans players able to get yards after the catch....almost all game the receiver was getting him immediately after catching the ball.
4) David Harris is gonna be a BEAST in Ryan's system. He was all over the field today. Scott was too but I expected that. Just wait till Ellis and Pace get back.
5) So nice to have a shutdown corner who can totally take away a teams best receiver. Andre Johnson was non-existent today. Revis has become one of the best corners in the league...and teams just dont challenge him anymore.

Several points on today's game. Obviously most of it is positive, but I have a few concerns, too, and I'll start with those.
1.) Aside from a couple of big runs, they really had a difficult time getting the running game started. The final numbers looked okay, but Jones had two 40 yard runs and Washington had a few nice gains. Almost every other run was stuffed at the line or close to it. I'd like to see some more consistency there because they're not always going to be as successful on 3rd and long as they were today.
2.) Sanchez's final line and overall performance was very strong, but he did make some questionable decisions that didn't hurt him (he could have had at least 3 INTs in addition to the one he had if the Texans had caught a few breaks.) That's to be expected when you have a rookie QB, and he was way more aware than I had hoped for his first game (and he did some excellent things, too), but I think there are going to be some games where there are serious growing pains, especially against better defenses. That's not a major complaint, though. He's a rookie, and I think he's going to be great for a rookie, but he's going to make rookie mistakes.
On the good side:
1.) I'm going to mention Sanchez here, too. He made some really nice throws and some of the stuff he can do (throwing hard off his back foot, making plays out of nowhere on the run, etc.) kind of reminded me of Brett Favre. It's nice to have a QB who has some zip on the ball, can make all the throws, and is young and could potentially be here for fifteen years.
2.) This might be just as big a point. I can't tell you how refreshing their defensive gameplan was after the previous coaches. It was so, so nice to see them bringing blitzes and remaining aggressive on defense on third down and with a decent sized lead instead of dropping eight guys into coverage. It seemed like they had serious pressure on the QB on at least half the plays. It forced some interceptions, almost caused a fumble (the Thomas play), etc. The defense was absolutely dominant.
Next week will obviously be a big test and will give us a really good barometer of what we have, but I loved what I saw today.
