Cutler's going to the Bears for Orton and 2 picks. F*CK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I really wanted us to trade for him. Sigh.
I guess its back to plan B: Sign Jeff Garcia and draft Mark Sanchez--trading up if necessary

Well I can't argue with any of that. I will say that I don't think we could have matched the Bears package because Orton is worth more than either Clemens or Ratliff, and it does seem they wanted a QB back in this trade.Originally Posted by dabomb2045
I still have faith that this will be a very good team next year. I think we can still upgrade the offense from what it was last year and I do believe in Ratliff. Clemens also has never had a real shot. And giving up 2 first rounders + something of real value is a lot to trade for anyone.

Got a feeling the Jets will pickup Garcia
I'm not mad at the Jets for not getting Cutler...just mad at the situation. The Bears gave up alot and it seems the Broncos didnt wanna trade him inside the conference. So it is what it is.Originally Posted by JeffWeaverFan

Either one would perform similar to or just as bad as Favre did the final 4 games last year....I just dont think any of them are any good and will be productive NFL starters on any team. I'm not quite sure why you are so high on Ratliff--I'm curious to hear why you are. So the defense and running game will win them some games, but they will be an under .500 team without a QB.
Now if they sign Garcia? I think we can win 10-11 games. He isnt great, but he's very solid.
My plan would be to sign Garcia to like a 2-year deal and get our QB of the future in this draft. I REALLY want Sanchez...I am very high on him. We'll have to trade up for him, but if thats what we need to do...then so be it.

God, in the wake of thinking about having Cutler as the cornerstone going forward, these other QB options just look worse and worse.

I understand he's about defense and everything--but unless we have the 2000 Ravens or 1985 Bears D...you cant win games with an offense that does nothing.

What do you guys think of going after Plaxico? We need a WR badly, and that might make me overlook his character issues. It'd also mean that we wouldn't need to even think about using our 1st rounder on a WR, so we could pick another position.

I dont believe his trial starts till June. What happens if you sign him...and it drags into training camp? What happens if he gets convicted and goes to jail for awhile?Originally Posted by Soriambi

I thought about that too but with the uncertainty of his criminal case and an almost certain suspension by the NFL, I don't want anything to do with him.Originally Posted by Soriambi

I'm still stuck on the fact that there's no one to throw him the ball who, when taking an objective view of things, gives the team a chance to WIN the Super Bowl.

Im waiting till the draft to go into panic mode. I really cant fathom the Jets would go into the season with Ratliff/Clemens/Ainge. It makes NO friggin sense--esp when the rest of your team is championship caliber.Originally Posted by Snatch Catch

Yeah, I hope not. I don't know about championship caliber--I have a tough time attaching that distincting to the Jets based on years and years of watching the JetsOriginally Posted by dabomb2045

But even if we draft a QB, is there really a QB that you're comfortable drafting that you think would be able to step right in at a high level? There's often a pretty steep learning curve, and it's very likely that a rookie QB wouldn't be able to start right away, or if he is, that he wouldn't be that good, even if he ends up being good.

Probably not. Sanchez is the guy I want...but even he would have to sit for at least a year, maybe even two. However this is why I wanted to sign Garcia. I dont think people realize that he is still VERY good. He's had ratings in the 90's his last three years--taken his team to the playoffs two of those years (would have been three if the Bucs didnt choke the last few games this year). He's still good. Not a great arm, but a mobile QB who is accurate. He's almost like Pennington except a) slightly better arm and b) is mobile and can run.Originally Posted by Soriambi
So I wanted to sign him and groom Sanchez to take over in 1-2 years. With Garcia here, I think this team could have won 11-12 games and really been a factor in the championship chase...assuming we found a good WR in the draft. However with the 3-headed "monster" We'll be lucky to win 6. Yes our defense is much better. But unless Ryan invents a time machine, goes back and kidnaps the 2000 Ravens or 85 Bears D....we're gonna need to score points on offense...and to do that we need a good QB.
Now that Garcia is signed....I dont know what else to do. I fear Ryan is gonna go with what we have.
Jets fans are delusional if they think they can win with any of those three.

Yep.
Regarding the D being historically good, I don't think it's probable, but I also think there's a non-zero chance of it.

That is based on nothing but draft position and your opinion. Quinn has never proved anything as an NFL player and many people (including myself) thought that he was insanely overrated coming out of Notre Dame because of his charlie weis connection (back when people thought weis was a good coach.)Originally Posted by TheManKnownAsMecca
I am a Notre Dame fan and while we didn't win any bowl games he did a great job at Notre Dame. He has the arm strength to make all the throws and I think not being thrown into a starting position immediately is going to be huge for him. I guess we'll have to wait and see who is right here but I like my odds of Quinn over Ratliff anyday.Originally Posted by ThunderFan

You're overrating him because of the college program he played in just like you're underrating Ratliff becuase he played in a spread in Utah.Originally Posted by TheManKnownAsMecca

Brett Gardner was also one of the best hitters in Spring Training too. You don't put any stock in that (which nobody should) so why put any in an NFL preseason?Originally Posted by ThunderFan
