Should the Yankees CONSIDER Lastings Milledge?

MLBtraderumors.com speculates on possible Lastings Milledge deals.

In his first full big league season, Milledge hit .268-.330-.402, hitting 14 HRs, 61 RBIs, 24 SBs, and 65 runs scored. Not bad hitting in that lineup. Milledge will turn 24 in the first week of the 2009 season, and is probably the 2nd best hitter in the Nats lineup behind 3bman Ryan Zimmerman. But he has the potential to go 25-35 once he matures as a hitter.
No, the Yankees aren't named, but I like Lastings Milledge. He's young, fast, cost-controlled, showed a lot of promise last year, and most importantly, his General Manager is a nitwit. I think at the right price, he could fill the Yankees CF needs.

Bill James projects a .281/.347/.439 line for Milledge next year in his 24-year-old season. I don't think Melky is capable of approaching those numbers, nor is anyone on the FA market.

Your opinion of Milledge? If you'd like to see him in pinstripes, with whom would you be willing to part?

If he can play CF, he's a better gamble than the idiots we currently have on our roster.

I like his potential, but it all depends on what we need to give up. His price may be very high. I give up Kennedy and one or two C level prospects for him at most.

They should definitely consider it but I don't think it will happen. I really don't think the Nats are going to trade Milledge unless they are blown away by an offer. And I think Cashman views AJax as the CF of the future which leads me to believe we'll see some combo of Damon/Gardner/Melky/Swisher in CF this year or Cash will seek a stopgap solution like Mike Cameron.

The Nats seem to like him, they would be foolish to trade him now

I'd want Delmon Young too but Bill Smith is a punk.

I'd look into "L Millz" if Tex or DeJesus isn't happening.

I think this would be a great pick up. This is the sort of trade I'd like to use prospects for, with the pitching holes filled through FA.
An IPK, Gardner/Melky, any second tier pitcher/relief prospect (this does not include ZMac who people are inexplicably eager to give away) would be fine by me.
It shouldn't be enough, though with all the holes on the Nats, and their GM, it could probably be done.

If he played good defense, I'd love to have him, but he doesn't.

I don't want any part of him. I get the feeling he's going to be a bust, or at least nowhere near the hype. Almost like a Wily Mo Pena, though perhaps a little better than that.

Re: Should the Yankees CONSIDER Lastings Milledge?

he's got tools, and if he keeps his head on straight, he could be a very solid player for many years to come

trading for him would be an outside the box type of move, something that cashman isn't very good at doing.. thus, i don't see it happening. plus, the asking price would probably be too high.

Sure, the Yankees should consider any young/talented player. That being said, they shouldn't bring him in.
