MLBtraderumors.com speculates on possible Lastings Milledge deals.
No, the Yankees aren't named, but I like Lastings Milledge. He's young, fast, cost-controlled, showed a lot of promise last year, and most importantly, his General Manager is a nitwit. I think at the right price, he could fill the Yankees CF needs. In his first full big league season, Milledge hit .268-.330-.402, hitting 14 HRs, 61 RBIs, 24 SBs, and 65 runs scored. Not bad hitting in that lineup. Milledge will turn 24 in the first week of the 2009 season, and is probably the 2nd best hitter in the Nats lineup behind 3bman Ryan Zimmerman. But he has the potential to go 25-35 once he matures as a hitter.
Bill James projects a .281/.347/.439 line for Milledge next year in his 24-year-old season. I don't think Melky is capable of approaching those numbers, nor is anyone on the FA market.
Your opinion of Milledge? If you'd like to see him in pinstripes, with whom would you be willing to part?
