Thread: Don't Talk to the Police

    Don't Talk to the Police

    http://www.regent.edu/admin/media/schlaw/LawPreview/

This is a cool lecture i just watched. Professor James Duane basically says use your 5th Amendment rights and never, ever talk to the police under any circumstances. He gives examples of 100% innocent people who spent years in jail for crimes they did not commit simply because of what they said to law enforcement.

Regent University has a bad reputation of having a terrible law school, but I think this is pretty cool.

If you have about a half hour to kill, it's worth it.

Not where I live. I always thought, gee if I'm innocent I'll just talk to the police and clear my name.

This lecture really opened my eyes.

Who wants to start a pool on how long it takes this to get moved to the political forum?

I say it will be there before a single pitch is thrown in either 2008 LCS.

Damn that was informative. I was always under the impression it looked bad if you pleaded the 5th. Thanks for posting.

I was actually thinking about this today.... coincidence. Monday night I had woken up around 4 am or so. Couldn't sleep (like now) and was watching tv. Got into the Bourne Ultimatum. A movie with explosions and alot of noise. Outside my window I hear a car slow down, I hear a thud, and a then they pulled away pretty quick. I'm used to the guy delivering the paper around that time so I thought that's who it was. About 15 min later I hear a crackling noise. I think it's the tv. After a while I decided to turn off the tv to see and my window is glowing. I look outside and I see the neighbor across the street's dumpster is on fire. He's been gutting his house so it's been there for a week or so. I call 911, run across the street and bang on their door to wake them up. Figuring if any of the trees catch they would be in danger, better to be up so they can get out of their house. I told the fireman and the policeman what I knew. Maybe I shouldn't have said anything about the car. I got worried because most normal people are asleep at that time. Why was I awake to see it.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Many people suffer from insomnia, unfortunately.

No, it has become bad because too many people have started talking to police.

Police have a superiority complex. Anyone who isn't in their special little club is just a "civilian" and not as worthy. There are three tiers of people. Cops, civilians, and criminals. Because most cops have an I.Q. of 100 or less, they often get the two non-police groups confused.

ETA: Sorry, my mistake, the AVERAGE cop I.Q. is 104.

I dont get the cop bashing. The point of that video wasnt to say cops are bad people, just that the nature of their job which is important in our society, makes it so you should not speak to them without representation or even talk to them about a crime without legal representation. It will not benefit you under any circumstances, but it could hurt you even if you are innocent.

It doesnt mean cops are bad people, but you have your fifth amendment right for a reason, the framers didnt throw it in there for the hell of it.

The system is rigged. The video made that very clear. It's an uneven playing field. The cops are allowed to lie to a suspect in order to induce a confession, but if the suspect lies to the cops, he can be charged with obstruction of justice and probably other crimes.

    http://www.lewrockwell.com/mcelroy/mcelroy86.html

As with the taxation system which is wrong, the procedures that allow the interrogation process to be rigged are also wrong. Therefore, any cop who participates in the interrogation process is in violation of the spirit of the American justice system and has committed a moral gaff that is in conflict with his sworn duty to uphold the constitution.

[It] is, after all, with men and not with parchment that I quarrel, – and he has voluntarily chosen to be an agent of the government.
when a confused taxman had wondered aloud about how to handle his refusal to pay, Thoreau had advised, "Resign."
Therefore, it is imperative that all employees of the IRS and law enforcement on every level in this country resign their positions immediately. Obviously this would cause great upheaval and a new system would have to be created, but that upheaval is extremely necessary and long overdue as far as I'm concerned.

Billy Joel was wrong. Sometimes, just surviving is not always a noble fight, and cops who have no other way to feed their families have to live with themselves 24 hours a day, knowing they've done wrong just by doing their jobs. I only have to live with them when they're harassing me as part of their routine duties. I don't have any blemishes on my conscious, because I've never done anything to violate the spirit or letter of the constitution. No police officer can truthfully make that claim, and these videos prove it.

Re: Don't Talk to the Police

One thing the cop said in the video is that if he follows a car long enough, everyone will do something illegal that will give him just cause to pull the driver over.

I've had cops tailgate me for miles, and because I'm a good driver, I screw with them. I do stuff like changing lanes more frequently than usual, but never unsafely, and I always signal. Eventually, I either drive out of their jurisdiction or they just give up. When it comes to driving, some people are smart enough to never do anything incriminating whatsoever.

It's all a stupid game, and if I was really being investigated for a more serious offense, they could just pull me over anyway and write me a ticket for whatever. It's their word against mine. But as long as I'm just passing by and they decide to tail me, I like to have fun with them. One time, he even passed a disabled vehicle on the side of the road to follow me. After about four miles, he gave up and turned around. So another lesson is that if you're ever stuck on the side of the highway, don't count on a cop to help you.

What I love to do, when I have some free time, is find a car driven by an officer of the law and follow IT. It drives them nuts when they finally realize what is happening. Often, after a mile or two after they have discovered that THEY are being tailed, they pull over to the side of the road. If it is not on a highway, I pull in front of them, turn off my engine, get out of my car, walk over and inspect the police car.

When a cop tailgates me, I hit the brakes hard.

What, no donut jokes yet? After all the bashing of police officers in here I'd expected to see at least a few pictures by now.
