Experience over energy. The color of my glasses may have skewed my opinion a bit as well.
I understand our angst against the Red Sox because of being our primary rival. Please, please, please, please, just attempt to be unbiased for this one occasion. On the other hand, I respect, but can't stand the leader of the Devil Dogs, Joseph Maddon. ...

The Rays are just too hot right now.

Rays in 6...sweep at home and steal one on the road.

The Rays offense just isn't very good and I expect Maddon to be badly outmanged by Tito, just as Mike Scioscia was.
As much as it pains me, I have to say the Red Sox are going to win this one. I think the Rays put up a good fight though and it will go 6 or 7.

Rays in 4. Yes I said it.
Doin' it again in 2010..

Rays in six..........they play good fundamental baseball and their starters and bullpen are for real.
Sawx in six. I hope I am wrong, but until they get knocked off, I have to pick them.![]()

Burns: I wonder if this Homer Nixon is any relation?
Smithers: Unlikely, sir. They spell and pronounce their names differently.
Sox in 6. Kazmir, Garza and Shields all put up mediocre outings and the lack of a true closer hurts the Rays. Also, I have a feeling they might just tighten up a bit with a WS title on the line. They were expected to handle the Chi Sox. This is a different series.
(Obviously this is hopeful prognosticating)

Shocking that 90% of the Sox fans (and a few non sox fans) on this board said the Sox and the rest picked the Rays (not in the poll but in posts).

Sox in 6......I see alot of bias voting...............Denial........denial....denial.....
I think this is a very difficult series to pick. It really could go either way, depending on the fortunes of the starters. If Beckett begins to look like himself, it could be a lot easier, but ... I'm not confident that's going to happen. I think the Rays have the big advantage in game 4 with Sonnanstine against Byrd, but that's the only game I think there's a really clear advantage for either team. I give the slight nod to the Sox in each of the other matchups.
I'll pick the Sox in 7, but it's not a slam dunk for either team, and I'm not betting my house.

Sox in 5. Rays will steal one at home and proceed to be swept at Fenway.
"We understand that John Henry must be embarrassed, frustrated and disappointed by his failure in this transaction. Unlike the Yankees, he chose not to go the extra distance for his fans in Boston."
watching these Red Sox is like watching the 90's Yankees... production from all positions. It's going to be a good series (hopefully) but inevitably... and unfortunately I think the Sox will take it.

The Rays are not a joke. They are a very good team. I exect this to be a very competitive series. The Rays did take the season series 10-8 and have home field advantage which was huge in the regular season for these two teams.Originally Posted by montrealer
I think a lot may depend on Josh Beckett, he did not look near 100% in the ALDS and if he isn't for the ALCS the Sox are in trouble. Tampa's offense is better than LAA.

My finger hurts. I just clicked to vote for the Red Sox to win.
I think Tampa will make it tough though. I think this could go seven games.

Rays in six. I think the sox were lucky to get out of Anaheim alive. I don't think they will be as lucky with the Rays.
Nope, can't do it. I even picked my Giants to win the Super Bowl! Faith never hurtsOriginally Posted by FoulkeLore

I have to choose the Red Sox. I think right now they're the Yankees of last decade. It looks like they're the best of the four teams left. The Red Sox will beat Tampa Bay convincingly in five games.

Rooting for the Rays - worst to first - good story.
Dawn
Rays aren't scared of the Sox anymore. They beat them in just about every close game this season. They have home field. Sox are without Lowell. I think the Rays will win in 6 or 7.
Seemed to me that the Angels were outplayed by quite a margin. I think the Rays are a better team than the Angels, but I don't see how one can deduce the Sox were lucky to get out alive. They beat the Angels pretty handily.Originally Posted by Casey at the Bat

Rays in 7.

ESPN talking about Dice K being a mistake pitching game 1. Saying although he's 18/3 how many times has he made it past 5 or 6 innings? Well I hope he's right - that it's a mistake and it'll be an advantage for the Rays.
Merry f'ing Christmas
Not often, however he pitched very well against the Rays this year. Some other points which I think will play out in the long run: Beckett is better on the road this year; Lester is better at home. Also, this lines up a Beckett/Lester combo for games 6 & 7 if necessary.Originally Posted by 4bronxbombers
Minus: Dice-K is gone after 5 innings and we exhaust our bullpen knowing we have another game the next day.

It would be a travesty if a Wild Card again won the ALCS and possibly WS. They have no business being there.
