    Cone sure looks good now

Cone had another good game and is as of now the ace of the boston staff and will be for sometime.I really hope not giving him a little bit of money does not get us.To me he looks alot better then lilly does.I dont want to hear all the crap about how i come when we lose as its getting old ok but i told you we played the flukes in Balt and the mets and everyone was acting like we were having no problems.Well now that we are back to reality and see that we need a bat i have no idea who is out there but unless we make a move this team as it is will not make it.I do believe we can get by with what we have in pitching as if Orlando comes back that is all we would need but a bat is a must.I dont have any ideas on who or what to do but we are a very old team that looks tired.Oneill and Tino will have there streaks but that is not what we need.We need guys who will hit 300 not hit 7 Hr's in a week and then take the next 3 weeks off.So i dunno but its sad when boston is without 3 of there tp 4 guys Pedro Nomar and Everett and they make ground up on us thats sad.

Benedict Cone, the Baseball Whore, got 12 million bucks for stinking up the Bronx last year - and he wasn't even close to being in shape. Maybe he wasn't paid enough!

Now, more cardio, more weights, and Cone's arm strength has been returning. He has said so. I find him despicable. Wonder if he still considers the 2001 BlowSux similar to to '98 Yankees - as he stated.
I hope all the Cone fans on this forum who have this year defended him are satisfied. I warned you.

    RalphFL,
Your incessant rants about getting another bat is getting old too...

Talk about getting back to reality...You say our pitching is ok and when El Duque returns that is all we would need? You think El Duque will start tossing 1 hitters upon his return on September 1st???

If you watch these games it is apparent we have a soft underbelly in our bullpen's ability to get the job done consistently...Trading for another starter who can give us quality innings and get us to Stanton and Mo is what we need...

And the only thing sad around here are your tired sorry a$$ posts...

    Nuff Said.

RalphFL, Cone did not deserve that win. It was entirely the Met's fault for handing him and the Bosox that game. They had runners on in EVERY inning, but because of their lack of offense this year, they were unable to get the big hits.

I don't think the Yankees need a big bat. Their offense was working great right before the All-Star break, and I don't think that was because they were playing Baltimore and the Mets. They got timely hits, had good pitching, and had a reliable bullpen.

They still have all of these elements. Give them a break! They entered the All-Star break winning 9 of their last 10.

If we are not in first place in September, then I'll be worried. I'm not right now. I'm only angry at the Mets for letting Boston beat them.

Cone's 38 year old ego wouldn't allow him to remain a Yank. He refused to be labeled the "fifth starter". He has been very lucky to go 4-1 so far with the Blosux. I don't wish him any harm but I do hope with all my might he starts stinking up the place like he did last year for the Yanks.

Eh,Cone has been less than spectacular.4.20 ERA and the league is hitting almost .280 against him.He will have a complete meltdown before the season ends, mark my words.

Cone has been getting better and better. A 4.20 era isn't bad these days; we sure could use one in our No. 4 and 5 slots. The one thing against Cone is that he no longer goes deep in games. But I had wanted the Yankees to re-sign him last winter, and I hope we won't all rue the day he was allowed to walk.

Although I root against him every game he throws, I thoroughly understand his motives.

As for another bat, it won't help if the rest of the guys don't hit. And some of the guys who aren't hitting for average (e.g., Tino) are so valuable on defense. Is Jason Giambi or someone like that going to get the balls that Jete and Bro are throwing halfway down the first base line?

Please. After last year, no one in their right mind would give Cone any more than what he got with Boston. This is one of those hind sight is 20/20 things. And if you look at Lilly's entire performance instead of just this one, he has been pretty good!

    Well, let's see....

Our "tired" Yanks have played 90 games so far and scored 455 runs.

Manny's BoSux have played 91 games and have scored 452.

The Rangers' offense is leaving us far behind. Tell me Ralphie, do you want the Yanks & the Rangers to change places?

The Dead Sox have averaged 5.27 runs scored per Benedict Cone start...

In 55.2 innings Benedict Cone has surrendered 61 hits...11 Home-runs...25 walks and 47 strikeouts...a 4.22 ERA and the league is batting .277 against him in 11 starts.

I'll take my chances with Ted Lilly...

It's all smoke and mirrors for Benedict Cone...the worst is yet to come from him...and I can't wait.

Cone is hardly going to win the Cy Young this year. He will fade from now on. His arm is just past it. He should have bowed out at the end of last year! I lost a lot of respect for him when he left last year, because, he didn't need to go.

Same old, same old -- from both sides of the coin.

Regardless of my opinions (and yes, I do have one), this Cone-bashing/Cone-groveling (whichever way you may see it), has just plain driven me up the wall. It has been nine months since he last threw a pitch in pinstripes, and I feel like it's the day after he declined the offer all over again. No subsiding of energies, no conceding from either side. We are trampling over the same path over and over again, and sound worse than Coney did last year after every horrendous start... just replace the "I feel fine; give me the damn ball, I can still pitch" with "I hope that ingrate bastard loses every start and rots in hell for leaving us" every fifth day.

It piques me to speculate if some of the fans feel so strongly still because he actually is making somewhat of a comeback. True, he's not the same guy who won the Cy Young a few years back, but he *is* keeping those pesky injury-ridden Sox afloat -- if he were a 7 or 8-inning pitcher, one might argue he was their ace, Pedro being DLed, even. His record is better than that of at least three of our regular starters this year -- El Duque, Lilly, and Keisler. Granted the latter two are rookies and the former's was because of injury, but they've been part of an artillery of supposed "replacement" starters nonetheless and the numbers don't lie. With a win in his last 10 straight starts (five of which he received the decision), he is proving to be the difference between a very close pennant race, and another breeze to the playoffs for our boys. That's enough to drive any Yankee fan batty, being so close, and yet falling short. If he were losing, or if the Red Sox were way out, the way they were the year Mike Stanley -- another Yankee who migrated to the "dark side" as a free agent -- joined the team, I think that initially there would be some sighs and celebration, but that it would get old fast, and eventually it would fade away. But until Boston stops breathing down our necks and we pull away, the fans' hatred, and the reactionary defense of David Cone shall remain vibrant as ever.

I wonder if there's a way to censor his name to stop people from wasting all this unneeded energy, every time the words "David Cone" come up in a sentence?

He left and acted bitter towards the Yankees. The Yankees that were loyal to him to the tune of 14 losses. Why he was so bitter I will never understand.

If he was insulted by the financial offer or the fact that he had to compete for his spot he shouldn't have been. The money was fair after his dismal season. So what that he would have to compete for a spot. I would think that a competitor would want to show what he's got. I would think he would have had a ton of determination to right his ship for the team.

Instead when the going got tough he just picked up and got going. He comes to us in 2000 not in shape and he's the one who leaves with resentment. It's odd. He takes some parting shots and now bleeds Red Sox red. Good riddance. Give me the rookies who are willing to get in shape and compete hard for their spots.

Will I always be grateful for the way he pitched for us and all of the championships?? Absolutely...I will always be grateful to him. I think that is what makes this so hard. I am disappointed in him. He left for a few bucks, a bruised ego and anger towards the organization when he only had himself to blame for his losses last season. It's sad that it ended this way IMHO.

I don't think anyone will ever agree on Cone. I think the feelings on this one will remain strong for a long time to come.

David Cone is to Yankee fans as Roger Clemens is to Red Sox fans. Only thinner and not as dumb.

The truth of the matter is both Clemens and Cone were free agents and as such were within their rights to sign with any team that offered them a contract. This whole perception of them somehow being "traitors" is completely unfounded. Rivalries mean alot more to fans than they do to players and since the players are the ones who actually have to make a living by playing baseball I, for one, don't have any problem with that.

Clemens did what he thought was in his own best interests, as did Cone. I find fault with neither of them.

I thought that Clemens was traded to NY from Toronto for David Wells. A trade I believe he forced Toronto to make.

Who are you calling dumb? Is it dumb to have a work ethic? Is it dumb to keep yourself in optimal shape all year long? Is it dumb to step up for your team when you are needed?
Or is it dumb to disrespect and insult people who supported you when you were at your lowest?

Who am I calling dumb ? That would be Clemens. Anyone who has a tough time figuring out the difference between a bat and a ball has got to be alittle slow. Clemens work ethic. Where was it his last 2 years in Boston. Optimal shape year round. Again, not his last 2 years in Boston. That's what is killing me here. Cone made a mistake by not working out in the off season his last year in NY. Clemens robbed the Red Sox for 2 years and then he bolted for a better deal in Toronto.
