    Oh man, that's sad news.

As a person he has mortality but as an artist he will be immortal.

Sad. I just saw him play in Portland about a month ago. He still put on a great show, even if he had slowed down a lot. RIP Isaac.

Very sad to hear that one of the coolest guys out there is no longer amongst us.

The boy Shaft was a baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad motha ... SHUT YO MOUTH!!!

I loved his gold chain and shirtless thing when he'd received the Oscar for the soundtrack. I hadn't heard digital music put together like that anytime before this, and long before I was familiar with Miles' & Corea's Bitches Brew.

May you rest eternally, Mr Hayes, you will be greatly missed.

Jesus Christ. I just can't believe Isaac Hayes is gone. He was just as good or better than Barry White. What a lousy way to end the weekend.

RIP, IH. You were incredibly talented.

I didn’t really know much of his music to be honest; but he will always be the Chef to me.

How sad! I was just a kid when Shaft came out and I thought he was the coolest thing ever.

RIP, Mr Hayes. And know that your music will live forever.

I remember the first time I heard the 'Hot Buttered Soul' album at a party in college. 'Walk on By' seemed to go on forever & ever & ever... So innovative for it's time.
'By the Time I Get to Phoenix" ...originally recorded by Glen Campbell...took on a whole different groove to appeal to R&B fans.

'Theme from Shaft' is probably his most popular/known...but do yourself a favor. Listen to 'Hot Buttered Soul' cuts to experience the 'soul' of the man.
