I guess this is the end of Chad Pennington in New York.. I'm a Giants fan but feel for Chad, those shoulder injuries really cut into what could of been a very good career in New York. Hopefully he finds success elsewhere.
Most of my family are Jets fans (including my cousin, who actually started this account), so I'm quite happy for them. Also, anything that can do damage to the Patriots is good news in my book.![]()
I'm not as excited about this as I would have been about a week ago because I soured on Favre when he originally rejected the Jets... I'm excited though, obviously. Can hardly believe it.
Lol this is great, Favre gets to join one of the great franchises in sports history, the New York Jets. He'll defintley get a ring during his stay.
Welcome to New York, Brett. Enjoy you stay, and the two losses to the Pats.![]()
No offense to Jet fans but I hope he busts big time.

I didn't see this coming at all. I thought Brett Favre is going to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but it wasn't to be.
Right now, I think the New York Jets and the Green Bay Packers are the winners, but in the future, I think the Pack will get the better end of this trade: saved $25 million, got a draft pick, and got rid of the distractions Favre was giving them.

One must know pain to be a hero.
Here are the parameters of the trade:
Jets Receive:
Brett Favre
Packers Receive:
Fourth round pick
-Becomes a third rounder if Favre takes 50 percent of the snaps
-Becomes a second rounder if he takes 70 percent of the snaps
-Becomes a first rounder if he takes 80 percent of the snaps AND the Jets win the Super Bowl.

This is going to be an absolute train wreck. But it's exactly what Favre deserves after the crap he has pulled.
I'll bet he throws 25 picks.
I hate walks.
Chad Pennington is expected to be cut.

I've lost a ton of respect for Farve over the past couple months, but he should be better than Pennington, at least.
*EDIT* - A post posted right before mine showed what the deal was.

Of course he is. He's set to make $6 million and he's gonna be the back up. I never liked the Jets, but I always liked Pennington and hope he lands on his feet.Originally Posted by YanksFan1992
I think the Jets will be the wrong place for Favre. He could have gone to the easy NFC South, but instead he moved not only to the tougher conference, but arguably the toughest division in the NFL. The Jets will not overtake the Patriots with Favre. However, going from a 13-3 team to a 4-12 one the expectations won't be as high as if he stayed in Green Bay.

Wont happen. I read somewhere that GB and NYJ agreed on a "poison pill" provision....if the Jets trade him to Minny, GB gets their next three 1st round picks.Originally Posted by RhodyYanksFan

Other then advancing to the AFC Title Game in 1998....this is the greatest day in my life as a Jets fan. Yes being a Jets fan isnt easy and in most cases a miserable experience.
But today I have a smile on my face. So to all the haters I say--be happy for us and let us enjoy this! Cuz happiness for us doesnt come around too often![]()

Ahh...smart move by Green Bay there.Originally Posted by dabomb2045
The last place Brett Favre wanted to be was with the New York Jets, but that's where he finds himself today.
After flexing his muscles and testing the will of the Green Bay Packers' organization, Favre agreed to a trade with the Jets despite having hoped to stay with the Packers or go to the Vikings or Bucs. Throughout most of his career, Favre lived the life of a player who thought of going to Super Bowls. By going to the Jets, he can think only of wild-card playoff berths.
Favre alone isn't going to cut the gap between the Jets and the New England Patriots. The Patriots have Tom Brady, Randy Moss, Bill Belichick, a great team and the easiest schedule in the league. Favre has only the satisfaction that he's out of Green Bay.
Given that reality, this trade is a thumbs down for the surefire Hall of Fame quarterback.
Jets fans have to be excited because they no longer have to worry about Chad Pennington's weak arm or the inconsistencies of the developing Kellen Clemens. Favre brings to New York the potential of a 4,000-yard season as a passer who can hit better than 63 percent of his throws.
But if his heart wasn't into competing against Aaron Rodgers for the starting job in Green Bay, how is Favre going to be at playing second fiddle to Brady in the AFC East? Mike McCarthy had it right Tuesday. He said Favre was in a tough place.
To come out of retirement and have only hopes of a wild-card berth has to be disappointing to Favre. True, he tested the will of the Green Bay Packers' organization and lost. He thought he was big enough to get his release. He wasn't. He thought he could force a trade to the Vikings. He couldn't.
Tired and mentally exhausted from his Green Bay visit, he agreed to listen to going to Tampa Bay or the Jets. He preferred the Vikings. The Packers said no and traded him out of the conference.

If you just compare the team from each division, the AFC East is only better in the first spot. Although they have the Patriots, they're 2-4 is worse than both the NFC East, AFC South and probably the AFC North as well.

One just has to hope that the Jets get the Favre whose rating was 95 last season rather than the Favre that put up 72 and 70 the two previous seasons.Originally Posted by dabomb2045

Im not going to suddenly change my mind because Im a jets fan and we got favre, I still think this guy is the most overated qb in history. Big deal we might make the playoffs only to have favre throw 4 interceptions in the first round and lose it for us. I am not thrilled. My god some of you act like we just traded for tom brady or something.
Is it too late to photoshop a Jets jersey on him for the Madden 09 cover?

Yeah because I'd rather watch Pennington throw 4 yard dumpoff passes, or watch Clemens terrible pocket presence all season....while we go 4-12 again. That would def be much more fun.Originally Posted by sabermet prospectus

I'm hoping Favre can do for the Jets in 2008 what Vinny did ifor them n 1998. The Jets only had to give up a fourth round pick to get him.
Of course it becomes a first round pick if the Jets make the Super Bowl.

Week 2 vs New England will be even tougher. It'd be the Super Bowl matchup most people wanted. Favre vs Brady.Originally Posted by Yankeesfan924
