What? asides from the Rays, they probably have the best collection of young talent you could try and pry away in a trade. The only I trade for him is if we get Kershaw/Bills + Kemp (and I don't think they'd trade either pitchers) otherwise, I laugh and walk away.

He's an elite hitter when he has his head straight.

We would be absolutely insane to trade him.

I said it about a year ago or so, and I'll day it again:

Billingsley is what we want Hughes to become. He's right on that path, and very far down it. He'll be 24 next week.

Billingsley is a stud. No doubt. That said, I agree with most of the posts here, unless LA gives us an unrealistic return there is no way in hell I'd let Cano go anywhere. Even when he was stinking it up offensively he's still super smooth in the field. And with our overall team defense we need him badly. Who do you replace him with? A-Gonz?? Please.

Oh yes, and GK is a freaking idiot.

Re: Derek Lowe and Matt Kemp for Cano?

LaRoche may never hit 35 HR, but he's got good power and in his 38 games at AAA this year (before being called up to the Dodgers) he had 37 BB to 14 K.

He's an OBP guy, similar to Youkilis. He's had such an eratic role since being called up (mostly as a pinch-hitter) and he hasn't had a chance to settle.

Some team is going to steal him from the Dodgers.

    Regarding Billinglsey/LaRoche for Cano:

This is the exact trade I'd hope we'd make if we were the team trying to get Cano. We have young pitching, let's acquire young position players who can hit. LaRoche is chancy.

Cano for Kemp and Billingsly/Kershaw is a no-brainer.

But the Dodgers wouldn't do that, so forget about it.

Cano + Kennedy for Billingsley + Kemp would help both teams IMO.

Yanks take the Washburn/Vidro deal that's on the table then pursure O Hudson as FA in off season.

I doubt it happens but I don't think it is a crazy idea.

If you had an adequate replacement for Cano at 2nd, I think you'd be crazy to pass on a deal like that.

Cano's a great bat, but the lack of plate discipline is a huge flaw in his game, and he doesn't seem to be on the road to getting better in that regard. It seriously diminishes his value, IMO. He could be a devastating offensive force if he could just stop giving away so many free outs. He's got worlds of tools, but even Pedroia (who has nothing but great hand-eye coordination) has a better lifetime GPA than Cano.

If Cano had Pedroia's approach at the plate, he'd be the AL's perennial All-Star at second base.

    Agreed.

If you think Cano can make the necessary adjustments, see more pitches, and make the pitcher throw him his pitch, you hang on to him at all costs, because that player is a franchise hitter. He's not that guy yet, and he may never be.

Re: Derek Lowe and Matt Kemp for Cano?

Any package for Cano would START with Billingsley and probably would need to include at least one of Kemp/Loney/Martin/Ethier (obviously depending on the player, I'd expect more from the Dodgers). LaRoche hasn't been able to stay healthy and that is worrisome.

Billingsley is one of the most underrated pitchers in baseball hands down.

But I really don't want to trade Cano unless we got such a steal that it was disgusting.

Hell, no! I'd settle for maybe Loney/Kemp for Cano or Kemp/ Broxton for Cano but not this. At least with Loney we could probably turn him in to a average second baseman. This deal will not and should not get done.

Loney/Kemp for Cano would be a Yankee steal and I'm surethe Dodgers would laugh at such an offer but if it did happen I'll be playing 2B for the Yankees before James Loney.

Kemp/Broxton for Cano in a vacuum might be fair value but why on earth would the Yanks want another right handed short reliever?

I've loved Cano ever since he's first come up. He has my favorite swing in all of baseball. He's sick right now as it is, just imagine how nasty he will be once he matures a bit? I say hell no, I want Cano on this team for a long time.

Re: Derek Lowe and Matt Kemp for Cano?

The deal itself would not work at all in the yankees favor. Lowe is good but isnt nearly worth Cano and Kemp, although an excellent prospect has not broken out say the way Cano did in his first 2 years.

Cano is my favorite yankee but looking at it without emotion if the Yankees got Billingsley & Kemp for him I'd have to do it.

Billingley is 23 year old stud who could be our #1 or #2 who isn't eligible for FA until after 2011 or 2012.

Matt Kemp is a 23 year old 5-tool outfielder who already posses a career 109 OPS+ can play CF for us until (if) Jackson is ready then be our corner outfielder afterwards. Like Billingsley he doesn't become a FA until after 2011 or 2012.

Why wouldn't you do this deal? It isn't like we would be trading Cano for a rent-a-player.

Martin is arguably more valuable than Cano alone. So basically it would then be Gonzalez and Kennedy for Kemp and Billingsley? I wish.

I can see it now...Igawa and a prosepct to Seattle for Washburn and Vidro...

Cano to the Dodgers for Lowe and Kemp...

Vidro fills in for Cano at 2nd until we can get someone better at the end of the year...Kemp provides us with the Of bat that we need...and Washburn and Lowe let us say goodbye to Ponson and Rasner....
