    Is Wang Returning this year

Is Wang supposed to be back with the big club this year?

They say September. I read he will be taking his cast off in two weeks.

Thanks, but just to clarify, will he begin "throwing" in september or he should be fit to return to the majors by then?

He'll be in the majors by then if all goes according to plan. Boot off in two weeks, and I imagine rehab will be a month.

He'll be ready to go first week of September, hopefully.

That said, September is an optimistic timeframe, and there is a decent chance he won't take the mound this year. We can be hopeful he will return, but it's not a sure thing

Here's the link to Abraham's blog yesterday saying it should be about two weeks:

The Daily News on saturday said it would be the end of the month, which would be even better:

UPDATE, 4:16 p.m.: Chien-Ming Wang got his cast off today and X-rays revealed that his foot fracture has healed.

He will wear a walking boot and use his crutches for another week or so. He also has been fitted for a special insole that will cushion his foot. That is scheduled to arrive in a week. At that point, he will head down to Tampa and start rehabbing.

If Wang is starting his rehab on or around Aug. 5, it’s just about unrealistic to think he can help the Yankees much this season. It’s going to take him 4-5 weeks to get ready to pitch again. Said Wang: “I want to pitch this year. We’ll see.”

That's great news, I was afraid he wouldn't pitch again this year.

If all goes well, I think we can hope for mid-September and have him get 2-3 starts before the playoffs.

As good as that prognosis sounds, you never know on these things. One setback in rehab, and he most likely misses the remainder of the season. It would be great to have him back, and a major boost, but I think it's in the Yankees best interests to plan for the rest of year as if they're not getting him back. You can't assume things all go according to plan.

After seeing the Ryan Church debacle, I sincerely hope Wang is not rushed and is good and ready when he comes back.

I have a feeling you won't see him or Hughes this season!!

I'm hoping the Yankees have better health next year than the past two years. Maybe I'm biased because I'm only seeing our injuries, but why does it seem like it takes our players longer to recover? In other words, I would have thought that Hughes and Kennedy would have been back by now. What was Kennedy's issue anyway?

Kennedy isn't injured (any more), he's just in the minors. Whether and when he comes up will probably depend a lot on what happens between now and the trade deadline.

I try to keep the Injury Update Thread updated with all news relating to injured players.

Wang, by the way, didn't have a foot fracture ... According to this link, he had a "mid-foot sprain of the Lisfranc ligament of the right foot and a partial tear of the peroneal longus tendon of the right foot."

As for Kennedy, he was "diagnosed with bursitis behind the scapular as well as a strained right lat muscle" on May 28, according to Yankees.com.After he rehabbed that, he was demoted to the minors and has been pitching well at SWB for a few weeks now.
