    Astros acquire Randy Wolf

A source told MLB.com that the Astros will acquire Randy Wolf from the Padres for a minor league pitcher.
Fernando Nieve, Bud Norris and Brad James would seem to be possibilities. At least there's no pitcher in the Houston system the team can't afford to lose. Chris Young will be the eventual replacement for Wolf in San Diego's rotation, but the Padres may need someone else to make a spot start this week.

Not sure why the Astros are buying 12 games out of the division.

Wow, what a dumb front office

Do they really think they'll catch up with the Brewers, Cubs and Cards?

Just seems like they are wasting their money

Houston is a huge market and the 'Stros have had a pretty big payroll the past few years for a team that hasn't done all that much. Ownership would be wise to invest more into the draft and international scouting than crappy or past-their-prime players... but they seem to just want to spend for the sake of spending.

    2008 Randy Wolf Stats:

    Home: 5-4, 3.17
    Road: 1-6, 6.63

    Yikes...And Minute Maid Park ain't exactly a pitcher's park

Very weird since they are out of the running. But then again, whenever you can get a mammal of the order Carnivora on your team - ya gotta go for it.

It's really a shame they didn't hold on to Mike Lamb.

Don't understand this deal one bit.

Randy Wolf's numbers on the road + Minute Maid Park? Ouch!

    Bad trade Ed Wade.

I think you can say that about every move the 'Stros have made since the Jason Jennings trade.

Maybe they'll really get wacky and trade Roy Oswalt for Ian Kennedy and Eric Duncan. I know it's not likely, but I can dream.

They couldn't keep Lamb around, with the Big Puma looming around at 1st.
